Meet and greet airport service: the first sixty seconds after the doors open
The moment you walk out of customs at an airport you do not know, three questions arrive at once. Where do I go? Who is meeting me? How long until I am in the car? An arrivals hall is loud, signage is in another language, your phone has not connected, and the crowd presses against a rail. A meet and greet airport service removes the three questions. A professional chauffeur is standing in the arrivals hall holding a board with your name on it, and the next thing that happens is that your bags are taken off your hands.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com offers the name-board meet and greet as an add-on to any airport pickup. Bookings go through our 24/7 worldwide desk, which answers day and night. The chauffeur works for a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local operator in our worldwide directory, and our desk books, confirms and invoices the ride. The same add-on works in New York, Frankfurt, Dubai or Singapore, though what the airport lets the chauffeur do differs from place to place. This page explains how it works and where the differences lie.
What is a meet and greet at an airport?

An airport meet and greet is a service where your chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, greets you on exit, helps with luggage and walks you to the car. Without it, passengers usually find the driver at a pickup zone outside.
Two levels of service are easy to confuse:
- Standard pickup. The chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you at an agreed point, which may be the arrivals hall or a pickup zone outside, depending on the airport. The confirmation tells you where.
- Name-board meet and greet. The chauffeur stands inside the arrivals area with a board, so that you can see the person before you see the car. It is an add-on that you choose at booking.
Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup, with or without the add-on. International arrivals receive 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, domestic arrivals 30 minutes and other pickups 15 minutes.
Who benefits most from a name board
The board is not for everyone. It is for the traveler who gains time or comfort from seeing a person at the exit.
- First-time visitors who do not know the terminal.
- Families with children who need hands free for strollers, car seats and tired travelers.
- Older passengers who find long walks to a pickup zone tiring.
- Business travelers who arrive and must be at a meeting within the hour.
- Groups where one person holds the board and ten people follow.
- Anyone with heavy luggage who would otherwise push a trolley across a car park.
- Passengers who prefer not to use a phone on arrival, because roaming is off or the battery is flat.
For a solo traveler with one carry-on who knows the airport well, the board is unnecessary, and a standard pickup is simpler.
Alias boards: when the name on the board should not be yours
A board with a full name in a crowded hall is a signal. For public figures, senior executives and anyone who prefers not to advertise their arrival, the board can carry an alias instead of the real name. You give the desk both the alias and the real name. The chauffeur is briefed on which to display, and the alias is something you can recognize easily, such as a company code or an agreed word.
Chauffeurs never photograph clients or post about trips. NDAs are signed on request. See VIP and celebrity chauffeur for the wider privacy practices and family office chauffeur service for households.
How the meet and greet works, step by step
- Book the airport transfer in the online booker and add the name-board meet and greet. Enter the flight number, the date and the terminal if you know it.
- Choose the board wording. Your name, a company name or an alias.
- Receive the confirmation. It includes the vehicle class, the meeting point and how to reach the desk.
- Your flight is tracked. The desk and the chauffeur see delays and early arrivals, and the chauffeur arrives at the right time.
- Clear immigration and customs. The chauffeur cannot enter secure areas, so the meeting happens after you exit.
- Meet the chauffeur. Look for the board. The chauffeur greets you, takes your bags and walks you to the vehicle.
- Depart. Child, toddler and booster seats, if requested at booking, are already fitted. Water and phone chargers are on board in most vehicles.

How meet and greet differs from airport to airport
The service is the same, and the geography is not. Three things vary: where the arrivals area begins, where cars may stop, and whether the airport runs its own assisted-arrival services.
The customs boundary. At most major airports, international passengers pass through immigration, collect baggage and clear customs before they step into the public arrivals hall. Chauffeurs wait in the public hall, so the meeting happens after you clear. The exact hall, door and meeting point differ by terminal. In the United States, for example, passengers clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection before the public area. Where a passenger needs help earlier, such as wheelchair assistance, arrange that with the airline.
Meeting points. Large airports publish designated meeting points, and chauffeurs use them. Heathrow's website, for instance, lists meeting points under its arrivals information; see the Heathrow site. Individual airport pages on LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com name terminals and meeting points where we have verified them: London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, New York JFK, Dubai International, Singapore Changi and Tokyo Haneda.
Airport-run assistance. Some airports sell their own meet-and-assist or VIP services, which include fast-track processing and escorts through the terminal. Those are separate products with separate providers. Dubai International, for example, promotes a VIP service on its own site; see Dubai Airports. A chauffeur meet and greet can be combined with an airport-run service: the airport team escorts you to the arrivals area and the chauffeur takes over from there. Ask the airport or your airline about its service, and tell our desk so that the handoff is planned.
Curb rules. Many airports limit where vehicles may stop and for how long. The chauffeur will usually meet you inside and walk you to the car, instead of leaving the vehicle at a curb. Your confirmation names the pickup point.
Comparing arrival options
An honest comparison helps you decide whether a name-board service is worth adding.
| Option | Time to car after exit | Cost note | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Name-board meet and greet | Shortest: chauffeur greets you at exit | Fixed fare via the booker, add-on at booking | First visits, families, VIPs, groups | Add-on; not needed by every traveler |
| Standard chauffeur pickup | Short: meet at an agreed point | Fixed fare via the booker | Frequent travelers who know the airport | You find the meeting point |
| Metered taxi from the rank | Depends on the queue | Metered | Solo travelers with light bags | Queue length varies; no advance confirmation |
| Rideshare | Depends on pickup zone and driver | Surge-priced at peak | Casual trips | Pickup zone can be far from the exit |
| Airport express train | Depends on platform walk | Lowest | Light luggage, central destinations | Not door to door |
If your destination is the city center and your baggage is a single carry-on, an express train is often the best option. For everything else, a meet and greet reduces the number of decisions you need to make in the first half hour.
Luggage: what the chauffeur does and does not do
The chauffeur takes your bags from the trolley, loads them into the vehicle and unloads them at the destination. For a family or a group with many bags, choose a vehicle that fits them. Luggage capacities are:

- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6/Lyriq or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali or similar): up to 6 passengers, 5 to 6 large bags.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 to 14 passengers, 12 bags.
Stretch limousines, mini-coaches and coaches are available on request. Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. Outside North America, expect Mercedes-Benz E-Class, S-Class and V-Class vehicles. Exact models are always "or similar" and confirmed at booking. See the fleet.
Oversized items such as golf bags, skis or musical instruments should be declared at booking so the right vehicle is allocated.
Entry authorizations: the step that comes before the board
The best meet and greet cannot help a passenger who was not allowed to board. Check entry rules for every traveler, including children, before you fly. As of 2026:
- United Kingdom. Many visitors who do not need a visa, including those from the USA, Canada and Europe, need an Electronic Travel Authorisation, and every traveler needs their own, including babies and children. The government lists the fee at £20. Apply only on GOV.UK.
- United States. Visa Waiver Program travelers need an approved ESTA. Apply on the official ESTA site.
Delays, early arrivals and missed connections
Flight tracking means the chauffeur is not waiting by guess. If a flight is delayed, the pickup time moves with it. If a flight lands early, the chauffeur adjusts. Waiting starts at landing, and international arrivals receive 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, enough for a long immigration queue and slow baggage. If you expect to be much later than the flight tracker shows, for instance after a long baggage delay, contact the desk before the free waiting period ends.
If you miss a connection or change flights entirely, contact the desk as soon as you know. The sooner we hear, the easier it is to adjust the pickup. The cancellation policy is measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice carries no charge, 72 hours or less 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%.
Meet and greet beyond the airport
The same approach works at other arrival points. At a railway station, the chauffeur meets you at the platform exit or the main concourse. At a cruise terminal, the chauffeur waits at the designated pickup point. At a private aviation terminal, the chauffeur meets you at the FBO. See train station transfers, cruise transfers and private jet car service.

Frequently asked questions
What is a meet and greet service at the airport?
It is an add-on in which a chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, greets you, takes your bags and walks you to the car. Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup.
Can the board show a name other than mine?
Yes. Alias boards are available on request. Tell the desk the alias and your real name so that the chauffeur knows which to display. This is useful for public figures and anyone who wants privacy.
How long will the chauffeur wait?
International arrivals receive 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, domestic arrivals receive 30 minutes, and other pickups receive 15 minutes. Flight tracking adjusts the pickup time for delays.
Will the chauffeur meet me before customs?
No. Chauffeurs wait in the public arrivals area, after you clear immigration and customs. If you need assistance earlier, arrange it with your airline or the airport.
Is the meet and greet the same at every airport?
The service is the same, and the geography is not. Meeting points, curb rules and airport-run assistance differ. Your confirmation names the meeting point, and our airport pages describe terminals where we have verified them.
How much does the meet and greet cost?
The online booker shows the exact fare, including the add-on, for your airport, destination and vehicle before you confirm. We do not publish rates.
Can you help with children and car seats?
Yes. Ask for a child, toddler or booster seat when you book, and tell the desk each child's age and weight.
Can a hotel or travel agent book a meet and greet for a guest?
Yes. Travel agents, DMCs, hotel concierges and tourist offices can hold trade accounts. See hotel concierge bookings and travel trade.
