Why book a Boston car service instead of finding one at Logan?

Logan is only about 5 km from downtown but sits behind harbor tunnels, and Massport allows limousines to pick up only by prior reservation from designated stands. A pre-booked Boston car service from LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com gives you a fixed fare, flight tracking and a driver who knows Beacon Hill and the Seaport.

Boston is compact, old and hard to drive. The street grid downtown follows cow paths and colonial lots, Back Bay runs on a tidy grid with narrow alleys, and Beacon Hill has streets barely wider than a car. Add the Big Dig tunnels, bridges that open for boats, and a university calendar that fills every hotel in September and May, and you have a city where local knowledge matters more than horsepower.

This page is the directory entry for limo service, car service and chauffeur service across Greater Boston: Logan International, Hanscom Field, the cruise terminal, the districts, the universities, the sporting calendar, the attractions with their own guides, and the long runs to Providence, Newport, Cape Cod, Portland and New York.

How a Boston booking works

LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com keeps a 24/7 booking desk. We have no vehicles of our own in Massachusetts. A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory carries out each trip, and our desk books, confirms and invoices it, so you hold one confirmation and one invoice, with a single number for changes.

Vehicles are late-model, fully maintained and inspected and never more than four model years old (Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven). Pick an Executive Sedan or First Class Sedan for solo travel, a Luxury SUV when luggage or a family is involved, or an Executive Sprinter (12 to 14 passengers) for delegations. The fleet page lists capacities.

Boston Logan (BOS): the limo stands, terminal by terminal

Logan is about 5 km (3 mi) from downtown Boston, 8 km (5 mi) from Back Bay and roughly 11 km (7 mi) from Harvard Square. The distance is short, but traffic through the Sumner and Callahan tunnels or the Ted Williams Tunnel can push a 15-minute drive to 45 minutes or more.

Massport publishes stand locations on its taxi and limo page: limos are by prior reservation only, and each terminal has a designated stand. At Terminal A it is in the lot across from the arrivals-level curb. At Terminal B it is on the departures-level curb between doors B-205 and B-208. At Terminal C it is on the ground level of the Central Parking Garage, following limo signage. At Terminal E it is in E Lot 2 on the arrivals level. Massport also bars curbside waiting at every terminal and runs a free cell phone lot with a 30-minute maximum wait for drivers, as its pickup and drop-off page explains, so we do not tell a chauffeur to park at the curb.

The point of hiring a pre-booked car is that the chauffeur knows the stand for your terminal and can meet you in baggage claim if you add a name-board meet-and-greet. Your confirmation always lists the current spot. International arrivals receive 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and domestic arrivals receive 30. See the Boston Logan airport page for terminals and customs timing and the airport car service overview.

Business aviation: Hanscom Field and Logan

Business jets serving Boston often use Hanscom Field in Bedford, west of the city, operated by Massport, or Logan's general aviation facilities. Hanscom is about 32 km (20 mi) from Back Bay and usually saves time for travelers headed to Route 128 and the western suburbs. Tell the desk the airport, the FBO name and the arrival time so the chauffeur is at the FBO door. The private aviation hub explains the process, and the private jet car service page covers handler coordination.

The cruise terminal in the Seaport

Cruise ships dock at the Raymond L. Flynn Black Falcon Cruise Terminal at 1 Black Falcon Avenue on the South Boston Waterfront. Cruise-line guides put Logan within roughly 4.5 to 6.5 km (2.8 to 4 mi) of the terminal, usually a 10 to 20 minute drive through the Ted Williams Tunnel when traffic is normal. Embarkation mornings add congestion at the terminal gate. Disembarkation pickups should be booked for a window after the ship's published arrival, not at it. We do not have a dedicated Boston page yet; the cruise ports hub and cruise transfers page explain how port transfers work.

Rail, South Station and Amtrak arrivals

South Station and Back Bay Station handle Amtrak's Northeast Corridor trains from New York and Washington. A chauffeur meets you at the station by arrangement, and a pre-booked car avoids the taxi line at peak times. If you are coming from the south, see Penn Station New York and the train stations hub. The MBTA's Silver Line is free from Logan to South Station, which is a legitimate option for light travelers with no schedule.

Where in Boston you will be staying

  • Back Bay and the South End. Boylston Street, Copley Square and the main hotel cluster.
  • Beacon Hill and downtown. Narrow streets; pickup is often at the edge. See the Freedom Trail.
  • The Seaport. Waterfront offices and restaurants; the cruise terminal is here.
  • Fenway and Kenmore. Game-day closures; see Fenway Park.
  • Cambridge. Universities and biotech; see Harvard University.
  • Route 128 corridor. Technology and life-science campuses.

The official visitor site, Meet Boston, lists current events and guides. Official tourist offices and visitor bureaus can book chauffeur services for their visitors through a trade account; see the tourist offices page.

The calendar that changes Boston traffic

Boston's rhythm is set by students, runners and fans. The Boston Marathon is usually run on Patriots' Day, the third Monday in April, and shuts Copley Square, Boylston Street and the course. The Head of the Charles Regatta is usually in October. Red Sox home games at Fenway Park reroute traffic near Kenmore. University move-in days and commencements in late summer and late spring fill hotels across the region. Exact dates change year to year, so we confirm a date when you book.

On the long runs, the chauffeur stays with the vehicle and is rotated on long days. See the New York limo service page for the southbound end and long-distance car service for how multi-hour trips are staffed. The private tours with a driver page shows how a day can be built around several stops.

Boston is a city where public transit is genuinely good. If you land with a carry-on and a hotel near a subway stop, the Silver Line and a train will cost less and finish in similar time. A chauffeur is the better option with luggage, groups, late arrivals or a meeting on arrival.

Corporate, university and hospitality accounts

Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing suit law firms, hospitals, universities and life-science companies. See corporate car service and executive chauffeur service. Trade accounts serve travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges; see travel trade. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and alias bookings are available. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company. Browse the North America directory or the global chauffeur service page.

Streets, tunnels and what a Boston driver watches

Four details decide most Boston schedules. First, the harbor crossings: the Sumner and Callahan tunnels carry traffic between Logan and downtown, while the Ted Williams Tunnel links Logan to the Seaport and the Massachusetts Turnpike. A crash in one tunnel pushes traffic into the others. Second, Beacon Hill and the North End, where streets are one-way and narrow, so a car stops at the edge and the passenger walks the last block. Third, Back Bay's alleys, which hotels use for luggage and valet, so ask the desk to confirm the correct door. Fourth, the Charles River bridges and the Storrow Drive underpasses, where low clearances matter for tall vehicles such as Sprinters.

Winter adds its own rules. Snow emergencies close or restrict streets for plowing, and street parking bans are enforced strictly, so a chauffeur plans pickups on arterial roads. In summer, Cape-bound traffic builds on Friday afternoons and returns on Sunday evenings, which is why we recommend an early or late departure for any run to the Cape.

For delegations, the practical formula is simple: one lead vehicle with the principal, a second with luggage if the group is large, and a chauffeur who has the hotel's loading arrangements in writing from the day before.
