Davos in January: why the last 150 km matter most
Most conference transport problems are urban. Davos is different. The difficult part of a World Economic Forum car service is the mountain drive from Zurich, the winter conditions on the Prättigau valley road, and the final approach into a town where, for one week, the police decide which roads are open to whom. A good chauffeur does not make Davos easy. A good chauffeur makes the known difficulties predictable.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books Davos transfers through its 24/7 desk. Each journey is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory, and the desk books, confirms and invoices it: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one point of contact. We are a chauffeur service and not a security company, and we do not hold or issue event accreditation.
Which is the best way to travel from Zurich Airport to Davos?

For most delegates the best route is a pre-booked chauffeur from Zurich Airport: about 150 km (93 mi), around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours in normal conditions, more in snow. The road runs via the A3 and A13 to Landquart and then Klosters. Trains from Zurich via Landquart are the main alternative.
The drive is the longest ground leg of any event in this directory, so decisions about timing and vehicle matter more than anywhere else. The sections below set out the dates, the route, the 2026 pattern of road restrictions and what to ask before you book.
World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2027: dates and venue
The official Davos tourism site lists the Annual Meeting for 18 to 22 January 2027 at the Davos Congress Centre (Kongresszentrum Davos), Talstrasse 49A, 7270 Davos Platz, with around 3,000 participants expected, drawn from business, government, international organizations, civil society, academia and media. Registration, programme and accreditation are managed by the World Economic Forum, so use the Forum's own channels (weforum.org) and your organization's focal point for those, not a transport provider.
Most attendees sleep in Davos itself, but capacity is limited, and some choose Klosters, Landquart or Chur. That choice changes the transport plan: a base outside Davos means daily runs through valley roads that the cantonal police monitor closely during the meeting.
Zurich, Davos and the route in winter
From Zurich Airport the standard route follows the A3 toward Chur, leaves at Landquart, and continues on road 28 through the Prättigau valley and Klosters to Davos. Published road distances range from about 148 to 166 km (92 to 103 mi) depending on origin and routing, with normal drive times between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours 30 minutes. We plan on two hours and add buffer in snowfall or on the busiest travel days.
| Route to Davos Congress Centre | Distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Zurich Airport (ZRH) | about 150 km (93 mi) | 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 |
| Zurich city center | about 150 km (93 mi) | 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 |
| Landquart motorway exit | about 40 km (25 mi) | 40 to 55 minutes |
| Klosters | about 12 km (7.5 mi) | 15 to 25 minutes |
| Chur | about 60 km (37 mi) | 1 h to 1 h 20 |
Weather is the main variable. Local guides note that snow chains can be required from Klosters upward when conditions demand, and the Flüela Pass toward the Engadin is closed in winter, so any side trip to the east (for example to St. Moritz) means a different and much longer route, usually via the Vereina car-train. A chauffeur operator based in the region knows the day's conditions. The details of the arrival side are on the Zurich Airport chauffeur page and the Zurich chauffeur service page.
Swiss motorway vignette and winter equipment
Foreign and Swiss vehicles using Swiss motorways need the annual motorway vignette, which the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) administers; the official FAQ explains the sticker and the e-vignette. Your chauffeur's vehicle is correctly equipped, and you do not need to arrange anything. We mention it because travelers who rent a car themselves for Davos often forget it, and because the alternative of avoiding motorways adds roughly an hour to the drive from Zurich.

What the police did in 2026, and what to expect in 2027
The Cantonal Police of Graubünden publishes its traffic and security orders for the meeting at wef.gr.ch. The 2026 orders show the pattern, and the 2027 versions will be published closer to the date. They are a guide to what to expect, not a promise of the same measures.
- A long window. The 2026 temporary traffic orders were valid from Monday 5 January to Saturday 31 January 2026, with individual measures covering shorter periods, and the police could issue or lift them according to the situation.
- Promenade restrictions. A section of the Promenade, from the Scaletta Street junction to the English Church, was closed to traffic from the afternoon of Saturday 17 January to the evening of Saturday 24 January 2026, with approved travel excluded. The Promenade between the Kongress Hotel and that junction was closed to pedestrians for a shorter period, with WEF-accredited personnel excluded.
- Talstrasse. The Talstrasse was opened to two-way traffic between Davos Platz railway station and the Montana intersection.
- Parking. Several car parks, including the Congress Centre lot, were closed to the public for the police or for WEF use, which limits where a driver can wait.
- Security zones. Zones around the Congress Hotel, the Hilton, the Congress Centre and the Kurpark, and around other hotels, a heliport and the ice stadium, were fenced and controlled. Access to Davos and to the municipal area was subject to inspections.
What this means for your booking: the car that brings you to Davos often cannot take you to the door. The practical approach is to agree the drop-off point in advance, carry your accreditation and identification, and let the chauffeur operator choose the approach road on the day.
Accreditation, checkpoints and who may enter the zones
Entry to the controlled zones depends on accreditation issued by the World Economic Forum and on authorizations granted by the police and the municipality. We cannot grant or request access on your behalf. What we do is plan around it: a chauffeur who knows where the checkpoints are, who has your name, pickup time and hotel address, and who will tell you in advance if a section is closed.
Your own security team stays in charge. Ours is not a security service: there are no armed drivers and no bodyguards. Discretion is part of the service: chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request and bookings can be made under an alias. The VIP and celebrity chauffeur page explains how private-client travel is handled.
Train, car or chauffeur: an honest comparison

| Option | Zurich Airport to Davos | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swiss rail via Landquart | Timetable-based, with a change; check SBB | Lowest | Light luggage and flexible timing |
| Rental car (self-drive) | 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 | Rental plus vignette | Experienced winter drivers with a fixed schedule |
| Taxi | 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 | Metered, long distance | Rarely practical, availability varies |
| Pre-booked chauffeur | 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 | Fixed fare via the booker | Executives, delegations, tight schedules |
Rail is excellent in Switzerland, and for a single traveler with one suitcase, trains from Zurich with a change at Landquart are a perfectly good choice and the lowest-cost one; check SBB for timetables. A chauffeur wins when you are traveling with colleagues or luggage, when your arrival is late, or when you have a meeting soon after landing and need the door-to-door certainty.
Vehicles for a mountain transfer
The Luxury SUV (a premium full-size SUV or similar) is often the sensible choice in winter, carrying up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags. The First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) takes up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags. A Mercedes-Benz V-Class suits a small delegation, and an Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) carries up to 12 to 14 with 12 bags. All vehicles are "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed at booking. Most vehicles carry water and phone chargers; child, toddler and booster seats can be added when you book. See the fleet page.
Arriving from other airports
Most delegates fly into Zurich. For arrivals at other airports, the same principle holds: long distances, so a car from a major hub makes more sense than a series of transfers. Delegates from the Gulf and Asia may route through Zurich or Frankfurt and continue by road; see the Frankfurt chauffeur service page for the German side. Private aviation passengers should check availability at Zurich and ask about handling; our private aviation hub lists the FBO pages. Zurich main station is covered on the Zurich HB page.
On arrival, flight tracking is included, with 60 minutes of free waiting after international landings and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals. A name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals is available as an add-on, with an alias if you prefer privacy.
Using the days around the meeting
Delegates who arrive early or leave late sometimes take a day on the road. Rhine Falls is a convenient stop near Zurich, and Chapel Bridge in Lucerne works as a half-day. In the mountains, St. Moritz is a destination in its own right and needs a full day in winter. For a guided day, see private tours with a driver.
Planning checklist for Davos
- Book the arrival and departure transfers as soon as flights are fixed; capacity on the Zurich to Davos road is limited in the meeting week.
- Tell the desk where you are staying, whether in Davos, Klosters or elsewhere.
- Agree a drop-off point with your accreditation in mind.
- Share your flight number and your passport nationality if border queues are a concern.
- Allow three hours door to door on arrival day, and more in snow.
- For the departure, leave Davos early enough to absorb a closure or a slow valley road.
Cancellation: more than 72 hours' notice is free of charge; 72 hours or less carries 10%; 48 hours or less 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events may carry a different deadline, which is stated on your confirmation.

Frequently asked questions
When is the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2027?
The Annual Meeting is listed by the Davos tourism site for 18 to 22 January 2027 at the Davos Congress Centre. Confirm programme and access on weforum.org.
How far is Davos from Zurich Airport?
About 150 km (93 mi) by road, usually 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours in normal conditions and longer in snow. The route follows the A3 and A13 to Landquart, then road 28 via Klosters.
Can a chauffeur drive me to the Congress Centre?
Often not to the door. The police restrict traffic around the Congress Centre and the Promenade during the meeting. Your chauffeur takes you to the nearest permitted point and the exact drop-off is agreed in advance.
Do I need winter tyres or chains?
Your chauffeur's vehicle is equipped for the conditions, and chains may be required from Klosters when snow demands. The desk will tell you if the plan changes because of weather.
Is a train from Zurich to Davos better than a car?
For one traveler with light luggage it is a good, low-cost option. A chauffeur is better for groups, heavy bags, late arrivals or tight schedules, because it removes the change at Landquart.
Do you provide security?
No. A chauffeur service is what we are, and armed drivers and bodyguards sit outside it. Your own security team remains in charge, and we coordinate timings and drop-off points with it.
Can you arrange accreditation or access passes?
No. Accreditation is issued by the World Economic Forum, and vehicle authorizations come from the police and municipality. We plan the transport around whatever access you hold.
What does a Davos chauffeur transfer cost?
The quoted fare is fixed and depends on the pickup, destination, vehicle and date; the booker shows it before you confirm.
Can the driver stay in Davos for the week?
Yes. An hourly or daily chauffeur can stay on call, within the limits of the parking and access orders in force. Tell the desk your hours and where you stay.
