How do I hire a chauffeur in Abu Dhabi?
Open the online booker, enter your pickup, destination, date and vehicle class, and you see a fixed fare for those exact addresses before you confirm. A vetted, licensed and insured Abu Dhabi operator then drives the trip. Our worldwide desk handles confirmation, changes and the invoice, 24 hours a day.
Abu Dhabi is quieter than Dubai and more formal. It is the federal capital, so the day runs around government hours, ministry meetings, diplomatic receptions and royal visits, and a late or wrongly placed car is noticed. The same discipline that suits a ministerial appointment suits a family arriving from a long flight.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com does not own cars or offices in the United Arab Emirates. We list vetted, licensed and commercially insured chauffeur operators in our Middle East directory, and our desk books, confirms and invoices every ride. Whoever drives you, the booking, the confirmation, the invoice and the point of contact are ours.
An island capital: how geography shapes every transfer
The old city of Abu Dhabi sits on an island, joined to the mainland by bridges, and most of the places visitors want are on or around it. That matters for planning.

- The main island. The Corniche, Marina Mall, Etihad Towers, Emirates Palace and most hotels. The grid is straightforward, but one-way streets and bus lanes make a driver who knows the building entrances worth having.
- Al Maryah Island and Al Reem. The business district around the Abu Dhabi Global Market and the Cleveland Clinic area, close to the island's east bridges.
- Saadiyat Island. Louvre Abu Dhabi, the cultural district and beach resorts, about 10 km (6 miles) across the water from the Corniche.
- Yas Island. Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World and Yas Mall, about 25 to 30 km (16 to 19 miles) from downtown and close to the airport.
- Al Bateen. The marina and the older diplomatic and royal residences on the western side, and the executive airport.
- Khalifa City and Masdar City. Residential and technology areas near the airport road.
Crossings carry an electronic road toll, called Darb, on the main island bridges. The operator's car is registered for it and the cost is part of the fixed fare, so you do not stop at gates or carry cash.
Which airport serves Abu Dhabi, and how far is it?
Zayed International Airport (AUH) is about 30 km (19 miles) southeast of the Corniche and 20 to 25 km (12 to 16 miles) from Yas Island. The drive to downtown takes 25 to 40 minutes. Dubai International (DXB) is about 140 km (87 miles) away and takes roughly 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 by road.
The airport was renamed Zayed International and opened a new passenger building in 2023. Terminal allocations can change between seasons, so your chauffeur is given the terminal from your flight number and tracks the landing. Read the full Abu Dhabi Zayed International chauffeur guide for arrivals detail, or add a meet and greet with a name board inside arrivals.
| Airport | Distance to Abu Dhabi Corniche | Typical drive time | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zayed International (AUH) | 30 km / 19 mi | 25 to 40 minutes | Most arrivals, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island |
| Al Bateen Executive | 10 to 15 km / 6 to 9 mi | 15 to 25 minutes | Private aviation close to the city |
| Dubai International (DXB) | 140 km / 87 mi | 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 | Dubai flights and onward road transfer |
| Al Maktoum, Dubai World Central (DWC) | 160 km / 99 mi | 1 hour 40 to 2 hours | Private aviation arriving near Dubai |
If you fly your own jet or charter, see the private aviation hub and the Dubai DWC car service and FBO guide, then ask the desk about Al Bateen. Airport and aviation pickups can be combined with private jet car service arrangements for tarmac or terminal meetings, subject to airport security rules.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Watan and Louvre Abu Dhabi by car
Three buildings dominate most Abu Dhabi itineraries, and each has its own entry system. The guides below explain the access.
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. About 15 km (9 miles) from the Corniche, 20 to 30 minutes. In October 2026 the mosque's own site listed visiting hours of 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday to Thursday, and on Friday two sessions, 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hours change for Eid, and visitors pre-book an access pass on the official mosque website. Dress is modest: arms and legs covered, and women cover their hair.
- Qasr Al Watan. The presidential palace near the Emirates Palace hotel on the western end of the island. Tickets and guided tours are booked on the palace website.
- Louvre Abu Dhabi. On Saadiyat Island, about 10 km (6 miles) and 15 to 25 minutes from downtown. Closed days and last entry vary, so check before you travel.
Visit Abu Dhabi also lists the Zayed National Museum and Al Ain Oasis among its must-see places; see the official tourism guide for the current line-up. A licensed guide is not compulsory for any of these, but a guided tour of the mosque and the palace adds real context.
Yas Island, Ferrari World and the race weekend
Yas Island is the leisure and motorsport hub, close to the airport and about 25 to 30 km (16 to 19 miles) from downtown, a drive of 25 to 40 minutes. Read the Yas Island and Ferrari World guide for the parks and the marina.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit is normally the season finale, held in late November or early December. Race weekend changes everything: roads close around the circuit, the island's gates are controlled, and the exit after the last session takes time. Our advice is simple. Fix a pickup time, tell the desk which gate and hotel your tickets relate to, and leave a margin. Our desk adds event-day instructions to the confirmation when the organizer publishes them. See event transportation and the events hub.
Business in the capital: ADGM, ADNEC and the corporate day
Abu Dhabi's business life runs through three places: the Abu Dhabi Global Market on Al Maryah Island, the National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) near the Capital Gate tower, and the ministries and embassies on the main island. ADNEC hosts large events such as the ADIPEC energy conference, usually in November, and the IDEX defense exhibition, held in February in odd-numbered years. Dates are set by the organizers, so check the show site before you plan.
For delegations, we assign one point of contact at the desk for arrivals that stagger across a day, and the operator schedules a rotation of vehicles from the airport. See conference transportation, corporate car service and the conferences hub. Companies can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing and alias bookings.
Weekends, Friday prayers, Ramadan and dress
The UAE's weekend for most federal bodies and many companies is Saturday and Sunday, with Friday a shorter working day around midday prayers. Retail and hospitality are open throughout, but government offices and many corporate offices follow the shorter Friday.
Dress codes are practical. In a mosque, in a government building and in many malls, cover your shoulders and knees. Hotels and private beach clubs set their own norms. Public displays of affection are best avoided, and you should not photograph people without permission, or government and military buildings.
During Ramadan, expected in February and March 2027 with exact dates set by moon sighting, eating, drinking and smoking in public in daylight is discouraged. Offices close earlier, traffic peaks around sunset, and evenings are busy. Eid at the end of the month brings holidays and heavy road and airport traffic. Alcohol is available only in licensed hotels and venues, the UAE has zero tolerance for driving after drinking, and we never promise drinks on board.
Roads, bridges and when the capital jams
The main arteries are the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, the Maqta Bridge, the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge and the airport road, plus the Dubai highway (E11) to the northeast. Weekday mornings from about 7 to 9 and evenings from 4:30 to 7 are the slow periods for the island crossings. Friday morning is calm; Friday evening is busy toward the Corniche and Yas. Speed limits are enforced by cameras, and your driver will keep to them, which is why trips to Dubai are quoted with a realistic time window.

If you are meeting a government official, plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early; security checks at ministries, ADNEC and some hotels can add queues. Give the desk the exact entrance. Some official sites restrict where cars may wait, and the driver will follow the security staff's instructions.
Cruise terminal and trains
Cruise ships call at Zayed Port (Mina Zayed) in the cooler months, roughly October to April. From the terminal, the Corniche is about 5 km (3 miles) and 10 to 20 minutes by car, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque about 20 km (12 miles). See cruise transfers and the cruise ports hub for how to arrange a shore day. Abu Dhabi has no urban rail today; city-to-city movement is by road, so check the national rail operator's announcements if you hope to travel by train.
Beyond Abu Dhabi: long-distance runs
| Route | Distance | Typical drive time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi to Dubai Downtown | 140 km / 87 mi | 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 | E11; busiest at commuter hours; see Dubai |
| Abu Dhabi to Al Ain | 160 km / 99 mi | 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45 | Al Ain Oasis, Jebel Hafeet |
| Abu Dhabi to Liwa Oasis | 250 km / 155 mi | 2 hours 30 to 3 hours | Desert road toward the Empty Quarter |
| Abu Dhabi to Sharjah | 170 km / 106 mi | 1 hour 45 to 2 hours 15 | Via the Dubai road |
For cross-border trips, such as continuing from Dubai to Oman, tell the desk early; border rules apply. See long-distance car service for how fixed fares work on longer legs, and hourly chauffeur service if you would rather keep the car for the day.
Taxi, rideshare, bus or chauffeur: an honest comparison
| Option | Airport to Corniche | Cost note | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public bus | Longer than by car | Lowest | Light luggage, flexible schedule |
| Taxi | 25 to 40 minutes | Metered | Spontaneous trips, short queues |
| Rideshare | 25 to 40 minutes | Surge-priced at peak | Solo travelers who book on a phone |
| Rental car | 25 to 40 minutes | Daily rate plus Darb and parking | Drivers who know the roads |
| Private chauffeur | 25 to 40 minutes | Fixed fare via the booker | Groups, late arrivals, official meetings, VIPs |
A taxi is a reasonable choice for a short, solo hotel hop. A chauffeur is stronger when you carry luggage, arrive late, travel with family, or need a driver waiting at an official entrance. See why book with us.
Private clients, VIPs and discretion
Private-office and family-office clients often want the same driver across a stay, an alias on the name board, and no social media. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company: no armed drivers and no bodyguards, and we work alongside your own team. See HNWI and family-office chauffeur, executive chauffeur service and the fleet for vehicle classes. Tourist offices and DMCs can book through a trade account; see tourist offices in the Middle East and Africa.
