How do I book The Championships, Wimbledon transportation?
Reserve a chauffeur for the days you attend. Share your hotel, your ticket or hospitality details and your preferred arrival time, and a vetted London operator plans the route, the drop-off and the late-evening pickup. Our 24/7 desk confirms and invoices, and the fare is fixed and shown before you pay.
Wimbledon is the rare world sporting event that sits inside an ordinary London suburb. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is on Church Road in SW19, surrounded by residential streets, a hill, a golf course and a District line station that was not designed for forty thousand visitors a day. Everything about getting there is shaped by that. This page covers The Championships transportation: the dates, how the ground is reached on public transport, where a car is genuinely useful, distances from central London and the airports, and the honest alternatives.
When are The Championships?
The tournament is usually held from late June to mid-July, over two weeks, with the finals on the closing weekend. The exact dates for each year are published by the club on its future Championships dates page; check that page for the precise days before you book your travel. Qualifying takes place the week before at a separate site.

Tickets, hospitality packages and debentures are sold by the club and its appointed agents; we do not sell them. We provide the car.
Getting to the grounds without a car
The club's Travelling to the Grounds page covers walking from the railway stations, shared taxis, car access and parking, drop-off points, accessible parking for Blue Badge holders, bus routes, the Queue and Wimbledon Park. In summary, the official walking times from the nearby stations are about 15 minutes from Southfields (District line), about 20 minutes from Wimbledon station (District line, South Western Railway and Tramlink) and about 25 minutes from Wimbledon Park (District line). The club also lists shared taxi services with fixed fares from Southfields and Wimbledon stations. Rules and layouts change from year to year, and the club's page is the source for the current season.
That is a good set of options, and it is the reason a chauffeur is not essential for every visitor. For a day on the grounds with a ground pass, a District line train and a downhill walk to the gates is a reasonable plan.
When is a chauffeur the better choice?
- Hospitality and debenture guests arriving in formal dress who do not want a 15-minute walk in the heat or rain.
- Groups and families with children, a picnic bag or mobility needs.
- Guests from Heathrow, Farnborough or a country house who would otherwise need two or three changes.
- Late finishes. Play can run into the evening on the show courts, and the stations are crowded after the last match.
- Corporate hosts who need a car on a fixed schedule for several guests.
| Option | Typical time from central London | Cost profile | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| District line to Southfields, then walk (about 15 min) | 40 to 60 min | Lowest | Ground-pass visitors, flexible timing |
| Wimbledon station by train or Tramlink, then walk (about 20 min) | 30 to 50 min | Low | Visitors from south and west London |
| Shared taxi from the stations | Variable | Fixed fares per the club | Short hop from the station |
| Black cab or ride-hailing | 35 to 75 min | Metered or surge-priced | Spontaneous trips; pickup is harder at the end of play |
| Private chauffeur, pre-booked | 35 to 70 min, door to a drop-off point | Fixed fare via the booker | Hospitality guests, groups, airports, late finishes |
The honest comparison is that the train is the lowest-cost, most predictable way into SW19 on a match day, and on a busy day it can be quicker than a car. The car earns its place at the edges: the door-to-door trip from a hotel or an airport, the evening exit, and anything with luggage, children or dress to protect.
Drop-off realities near the ground
The streets around the club are residential and, during the fortnight, controlled. The club's current page describes drop-off points, accessible drop-off and parking for Blue Badge holders, and it should be your reference. In past years, black-cab guidance and accessibility guides have described designated drop-off and pickup points on streets near the grounds, and some roads in front of the main gates being closed to general traffic during the tournament. We do not rely on last year's layout. Your confirmation names the agreed drop-off for your day, based on the current official guidance and on your ticket or hospitality entrance, and the chauffeur updates it by message if the arrangements change.

Three practical rules:
- Arrive earlier than you think. Allow time for security at the gates and for the walk from the drop-off.
- Do not expect to be collected at the gate. After play, the area around the ground is crowded; the chauffeur uses an agreed pickup point a short walk away, or waits for the crowd to thin.
- Plan the exit as carefully as the arrival. Leaving at a quieter time, for instance after dinner at your hospitality location, can save an hour.
Distances to Wimbledon
Distances are approximate road distances, and the drive times are typical off-peak figures. Traffic on the A3, the A24 and the South Circular is heavy on match days, and the M25 and M3 add their own delays on summer weekends.
| Trip to Wimbledon (SW19) | Approx. distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Mayfair, Knightsbridge or central London hotels | 12 km (7.5 mi) | 35 to 70 min |
| Heathrow Airport (LHR) | 25 km (15 mi) | 40 to 70 min |
| Gatwick Airport (LGW) | 50 km (31 mi) | 60 to 95 min |
| Farnborough Airport (FAB) | 45 km (28 mi) | 45 to 80 min |
| Richmond | 8 km (5 mi) | 20 to 35 min |
| Kew Gardens | 9 km (5.5 mi) | 25 to 40 min |
| Windsor | 35 km (22 mi) | 45 to 75 min |
| St Pancras International | 14 km (8.7 mi) | 40 to 75 min |
For airports, see the Heathrow (LHR) page and the Farnborough private aviation page. The St Pancras station page covers Eurostar arrivals, and the London chauffeur service page covers the city as a whole. Heathrow pickups include flight tracking, with 60 minutes' free waiting after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes domestic.
London's low-emission and congestion rules
Transport for London states that the Ultra Low Emission Zone covers all London boroughs, which includes Wimbledon, and operates 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day. The Congestion Charge applies from 7:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and from 12:00 to 18:00 on weekends and bank holidays in central London. A trip starting at a central hotel can fall inside that zone. Our London operators manage these requirements, and every vehicle is late-model; you do not need to do anything, and the fixed fare is quoted before you pay.
A match-day plan that works
A realistic day for two hospitality guests staying in Mayfair:

- Late morning: Pickup at the hotel in time for the club's recommended arrival, dropped at the agreed point, then a short walk through security.
- Afternoon: Lunch and matches. The car is not needed.
- Early evening: The chauffeur is positioned at an agreed pickup near the ground, with a time that allows for the crowd; if play overruns, the meeting point moves.
- Evening: Drive back to the hotel or on to dinner in the West End.
For multi-day itineraries, the hourly chauffeur service page explains flexible hire, and the event transportation page covers corporate groups. The final weekend needs the earliest booking, because it is the busiest travel day of the tournament.
Making the most of a London trip
Visitors often combine Wimbledon with sightseeing. Useful guides:
- Kew Gardens: about 9 km (5.5 mi) from the club, a natural morning before an afternoon session.
- Windsor Castle: about 35 km (22 mi) west, a half-day trip.
- Tower of London and London Eye: central London staples.
- Buckingham Palace: summer opening arrangements are published by the Royal Collection Trust.
Other major British summer events are covered on the Royal Ascot page; for tennis in North America see the US Open page, and for the wider calendar the events hub. Official tourist offices, tourism boards and visitor centres can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account.
Vehicle classes for match days
Classes are confirmed at booking and are "or similar". In the UK we describe them by Mercedes-Benz model.
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large bags and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large bags and 2 cabin bags.
- Luxury SUV (Mercedes-Benz V-Class or comparable): up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags; capacity confirmed at booking.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags, for corporate parties.
Stretch limousines, mini-coaches and coaches are available on request, as are Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, availability confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats are available at booking, and most vehicles carry water and phone chargers. Alcohol is never promised on board, since local law applies. All vehicles are late-model, maintained and inspected, no more than four model years old (Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven). See the fleet page.
Discretion, corporate hosting and guests of note
Wimbledon draws guests who value privacy. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and alias bookings are available, with the name-board meet-and-greet as an add-on. We are a chauffeur service and not a security company: no armed drivers or bodyguards, though we work alongside a client's own security team. For companies hosting clients, a corporate account offers monthly invoicing and one contact; see the corporate car service page and the VIP and celebrity chauffeur page. Travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges can use the travel trade page.
Booking early and cancellations
Reserve as soon as your tickets or hospitality are confirmed. Large events may carry a different cancellation deadline, which is stated on your confirmation. The standard terms for other bookings are: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. We quote no prices on this page; the online booker shows the exact fixed fare for your addresses and vehicle before you confirm.
