How do I get from Barcelona airport to MWC?

The simple version: if you travel light and have no deadline, take the Metro. If you land with colleagues, want a named driver at the gate, or have a meeting an hour after landing, book a car. Both are legitimate and the table later in this guide compares them honestly.

MWC Barcelona 2027 dates and venue

The official MWC Barcelona site lists MWC27 for 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via, Avinguda Joan Carles I, 64, 08908 L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. March 1 is a Monday, so the show runs Monday to Thursday, and the official transport page lists taxi rank hours from Sunday evening for early arrivals. 4YFN, the start-up programme, uses the north access on Carrer del Foc, 37.

Opening hours for 2027 have not been published at the time of writing; the 2026 edition ran from 8:30 for visitors on Monday to Wednesday and closed early on Thursday. Check the organizer's page before you fix your first and last pickups. The show draws delegates from every region, including the Gulf, Asia and North America, so the Sunday evening and Monday morning arrival waves are the heaviest on the airport side.

Airport and city to the venue: distances and times

El Prat airport is on the south-west side of the city, and Fira Gran Via sits between the airport and the center, which makes the venue one of the quicker destinations in Barcelona. The delay comes from the roads around it on show days, where the organizer itself warns of works, detours and congestion.

What the organizer provides, and where a private car fits

MWC's own arrangements are substantial, and they are worth using when they suit you.

• Free transport pass. The official pages say every MWC and 4YFN attendee receives a free pass for unlimited travel on buses, the Metro and local FGC trains in Zone 1, including trips to and from the airport.
• Metro line 9. The "Fira" and "Europa | Fira" stations on L9 Sud serve the venue and connect with both airport terminals.
• Taxi ranks. The transportation page lists staffed taxi ranks at the north (4YFN) and south (MWC) entrances, operating Sunday 17:00 to 21:00, Monday to Wednesday 09:00 to 20:00 and Thursday 09:00 to 17:00.
• Electric shuttle. A shuttle runs between Fira Gran Via and Plaça d'Espanya on the north side, Monday to Wednesday 08:00 to 20:00 and Thursday 08:00 to 16:00, according to the organizer.
• Hotel shuttle. A free GSMA shuttle on event days serves hotels with limited public transport, stopping at the 4YFN entrance.

A chauffeur fills the gaps these services leave: late evenings after the ranks close, early departures before the shuttle starts, and any journey where you do not want to depend on a queue.

Where a private car can drop you

Private vehicles are handled differently at the two entrances. The organizer's transportation page says cars and buses can drop off and pick up at the south (MWC) entrance on Carrer de Salvador Espriu, and that this must be booked in advance through its transport contact. It lists no private drop-off point for the north (4YFN) entrance. Barcelona's public roads change for the show, so the final arrangement can differ from year to year.

Do not plan on stopping on the main road in front of a hall; when thousands of people arrive within the same hour, the designated drop-off point is the only workable one.

Comparing the options honestly

If you are traveling alone, carrying one bag and are staying near a Metro station, the free pass and line 9 are the better value and often the faster route at midday. A chauffeur wins when you are three or more in a party, when there are laptops and demo kits to carry, when you land late, or when a delay means a lost meeting.

Vehicles for MWC delegations

For a single executive or a pair, a First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) carries up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags. An Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar) offers the same seating and bag capacity in the next class down. For three to six travelers with luggage, a Mercedes-Benz V-Class or Luxury SUV suits. A team of up to 12 to 14 can use an Executive Sprinter with 12 bags. Every vehicle is "or similar", the exact model is confirmed at booking, and Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. Water and phone chargers are provided in most vehicles, and child, toddler and booster seats are available on request. You can also add a name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals, with an alias on the board if you prefer privacy. Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup; free waiting is 60 minutes after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals.

Entry rules for non-EU visitors

Spain is in the Schengen area. The EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, so non-EU visitors should expect biometric registration at the external border on arrival, which can lengthen the walk from the aircraft to arrivals. ETIAS travel authorization is slated by the EU to start in the last quarter of 2026, and the official site says the start date will be announced in advance. Check the EU travel information site on ETIAS and your own nationality's rules before you fly. Because the border queue is unpredictable, we recommend the free 60-minute waiting window on international arrivals instead of a tight pickup time.

A plan for the executive on a three-day visit

Sunday. Arrive at El Prat, name-board meet-and-greet, transfer to a hotel in Eixample, about 12 km (7.5 mi), 20 to 35 minutes. Early evening, a short run to the Gothic Quarter for dinner, about 2 km (1 mi) from the hotel.

Monday. A 7:45 pickup for the south entrance, about 7 km (4 mi), 15 to 35 minutes. The car is on call after the keynote for a lunch meeting. A late return from the showroom floor in the evening, when the ranks are busiest.

Tuesday. A morning transfer to a client in Sant Cugat or the 22@ district, then back to the venue for the afternoon. A dinner in the Born with the car waiting on a nearby street.

Making time for the city

Barcelona's best-known sights are each a short ride from Fira Gran Via.
