How do I book a private driver in Marrakech?
Enter your pickup, destination, date and vehicle class in the online booker, and you see a fixed fare for those exact addresses before you confirm. A vetted, licensed and insured Marrakech operator then drives the trip. Our worldwide desk handles confirmation, changes and the invoice, 24 hours a day.
Marrakech has two cities in one. The walled medina is a maze of lanes where a car is useless, and the new districts of Gueliz and Hivernage are wide boulevards where a car is essential. Most visitors stay in a riad inside the walls and eat, shop and visit outside them, which means the real planning task is the handover between the car and your feet.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com does not own vehicles or offices in Morocco. We list vetted, licensed and commercially insured Marrakech chauffeur operators in our Africa directory, and our desk books, confirms and invoices every ride. One booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one point of contact, whatever the hour.
The medina and your riad: what a car can and cannot do
The medina is a UNESCO-listed old city, and most of its streets are too narrow for a car. A chauffeur can bring you to the nearest vehicle gate, such as the edges near Bab Doukkala, Bab Agnaou or the Koutoubia area, and some riads are within a short walk. The last stretch is on foot, usually with a porter and a handcart for your bags. Your riad host often sends a porter to meet the car, so give the desk the riad's exact name and a contact number, and the driver will agree the meeting point.

Two practical points. Do not follow strangers who offer to lead you to your riad; wait for your host's porter. And allow ten to twenty minutes from the car to the door, especially with large bags. The Jemaa el-Fnaa guide explains the square at the center of the medina, which is closed to cars and busiest after sunset.
Marrakech's own official tourism information, on the Visit Morocco Marrakech page, lists Jemaa el-Fna, the Majorelle Garden, the El Badi Palace and the Menara gardens among the popular sights and describes the newer districts of Gueliz and Hivernage as modern and wide-avenued, a contrast with the old city.
How far is Marrakech Menara Airport from the medina?
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is about 6 km (4 miles) southwest of the medina, a drive of 15 to 25 minutes. Gueliz is about 6 to 8 km (4 to 5 miles) away, Hivernage about 5 km (3 miles), and the Palmeraie about 15 to 20 km (9 to 12 miles) with a drive of 25 to 40 minutes.
The airport is close, but the arrival scene is busy, with taxi drivers and agents offering rides at the doors. A pre-booked chauffeur with a name board in arrivals avoids the negotiation. Our driver tracks your flight, waits 60 minutes free after an international landing, and can hold a board with an alias for privacy; see meet and greet. Business aviation arrives at Menara too; tell the desk your handler and see the private aviation hub.
| From Menara (RAK) to | Distance | Typical drive time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medina vehicle gates (Koutoubia area) | 6 km / 4 mi | 15 to 25 minutes | Walk or porter to your riad |
| Gueliz | 6 to 8 km / 4 to 5 mi | 15 to 25 minutes | Majorelle, restaurants, train station |
| Hivernage | 5 km / 3 mi | 15 to 20 minutes | Larger hotels |
| Palmeraie | 15 to 20 km / 9 to 12 mi | 25 to 40 minutes | Villas and resorts |
| Agafay desert camps | 45 to 55 km / 28 to 34 mi | 50 to 75 minutes | Rocky desert south of the city |

Majorelle Garden, the palaces and the souks by chauffeur
- Jardin Majorelle: in Gueliz, reachable by car with a short walk from the nearest drop-off. The garden's official site says tickets are sold only online, at tickets.jardinmajorelle.com, and warns that tickets from other sellers may not grant entry. In October 2026 it listed the garden open daily from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., last entry at 5 p.m., with the Berber museum 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Details are on the Jardin Majorelle website.
- Jemaa el-Fnaa: the main square, with food stalls and performers in the evening. Cars stop at the edge.
- Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace and the Saadian Tombs. In the southern medina, close to each other, with entrances on narrow lanes. Plan the car to a gate and walk.
- Koutoubia Mosque. The landmark minaret near the square. Non-Muslim visitors view it from outside.
A licensed guide is the right companion in the medina, where lanes branch quickly; our chauffeur drives and can suggest stops, but does not replace a guide. See private tours with driver and browse the attractions directory.
Day trips from Marrakech: Atlas, Essaouira and beyond

| Route | Distance | Typical drive time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrakech to Ourika Valley | 60 km / 37 mi | 1 hour to 1 hour 30 | Berber villages, river terraces |
| Marrakech to Imlil (Toubkal area) | 65 km / 40 mi | 1 hour 30 | Mountain road, trekking base |
| Marrakech to Agafay desert | 40 km / 25 mi | 45 to 60 minutes | Sunset camps, quad rides |
| Marrakech to Ouzoud Falls | 150 km / 93 mi | 2 hours 30 to 3 hours | Waterfalls, Middle Atlas edge |
| Marrakech to Essaouira | 175 km / 109 mi | 2 hours 30 to 3 hours | Walled coastal town |
| Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou | 185 km / 115 mi | 3 hours 30 to 4 hours | Via the Tizi n'Tichka pass |
| Marrakech to Casablanca | 240 km / 149 mi | 2 hours 45 to 3 hours 30 | A7 toll motorway |
The Tizi n'Tichka pass over the High Atlas is a mountain road, and it can see snow or fog in winter, so the driver may change the plan on the day. Summer afternoons in the city are hot, with temperatures that can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, so we advise starting day trips early. A comfortable drive of three hours or more deserves a break, and the desk can plan lunch stops.
Casablanca's Hassan II Mosque is a long day trip; non-Muslim visitors enter only on guided tours, so check the schedule. Fez and Chefchaouen are much farther: see the guides for Fes el-Bali medina and Chefchaouen, but Fez is roughly 530 km (329 miles) and 6 to 7 hours by road, so most travelers fly or take the train and meet a chauffeur there. See long-distance car service.
Gueliz, Hivernage, the Palmeraie and where to stay
- The medina. Riads and small hotels, atmospheric and hard to reach by car.
- Gueliz. The new town, with cafes, shops, the train station, Majorelle and wide roads.
- Hivernage. Larger hotels and restaurants between the medina and Gueliz.
- The Palmeraie. A palm grove with villas and resorts to the north, farther by car but quiet.
- Route de l'Ourika and Targa. Garden villas and boutique hotels toward the mountains.
Tell the desk which area you chose. Our drivers can come to the hotel entrance for larger hotels and to the nearest gate for riads, and we always include a contact number for a handover.
Weekends, Ramadan, Fridays and dress
Morocco's weekend is Saturday and Sunday, and Friday midday is the main prayer of the week, when some shops close for a few hours. Ramadan is expected in February and March 2027, with exact dates set by moon sighting. In Marrakech tourist restaurants and cafes keep serving visitors, but many local places close in daytime, hours shorten, and the city is busy after sunset. Eating in public in daylight is better avoided out of respect. Eid holidays bring heavy road traffic between cities.
Dress modestly in the medina and when visiting mosques and holy sites: shoulders and knees covered. Beach resorts and hotel pools set their own norms. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and restaurants, we never promise drinks on board, and local law applies. Ask before you photograph people, and be mindful at the souks.
Honest comparison: petit taxi, grand taxi, shuttle or chauffeur

| Option | Typical time from RAK to the medina edge | Cost note | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel or riad shuttle | 15 to 25 minutes | Arranged by the property | Travelers whose host organizes pickup |
| Petit taxi | 15 to 25 minutes | Metered in principle | Short trips; agree the fare if the meter is off |
| Grand taxi | 15 to 25 minutes | Negotiated | Groups sharing a car |
| Rental car | 15 to 25 minutes | Daily rate plus parking | Confident drivers on day trips, not for the medina |
| Private chauffeur | 15 to 25 minutes | Fixed fare via the booker | Late arrivals, families, long day trips, VIPs |
If your riad offers a shuttle at a fair, agreed fare, take it. A chauffeur is stronger when you arrive late, carry heavy bags, travel as a family or plan a day trip to the Atlas or the coast. See why book with us and the fleet.
Trains, events and cruise calls
Marrakech railway station in Gueliz has ONCF trains to Casablanca, Rabat and other cities; check the operator for schedules, and see train station transfers and the train stations hub. Marrakech has no cruise port: ships call at Casablanca, about 240 km (149 miles) away, or Agadir, about 270 km (168 miles); see cruise transfers and the cruise ports hub.
The city hosts a film festival, usually in late November or early December, and a range of cultural and trade events; see the events hub, event transportation and conference transportation. Dates are set by organizers, so confirm them before you book. Companies can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing; see corporate car service.
Private clients, groups and trade accounts
Private clients appreciate one driver for the whole stay, alias bookings and NDAs on request; chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company, so there are no armed drivers or bodyguards, and we work alongside your own team. See HNWI and family-office chauffeur and VIP and celebrity chauffeur. Groups can use an Executive Sprinter; see sprinter van with driver. Travel agents, DMCs and riad concierges can open trade accounts, and official tourist offices and tourism boards can book chauffeur services for their visitors through a trade account; see travel trade, hotel concierge bookings and the tourist offices directory. Entry rules vary by nationality, so check the formalities on the Visit Morocco site before you fly.
