How far is Logan Airport from downtown Boston, and is a car service worth it?
Logan is about 5 km (3 mi) from downtown Boston across the harbor, so the drive can take 10 minutes at night and 45 minutes in rush hour. The Silver Line and the Blue Line are real alternatives. A chauffeur is worth booking for heavy bags, groups, early flights, Cambridge and suburban addresses, and trips beyond the city.
Boston has the shortest airport transfer in this series and the most unpredictable one. Logan sits on a peninsula in the harbor, and every road in or out goes through a tunnel or over a bridge. A crash in the Sumner or Ted Williams tunnel, a Red Sox game or a hockey night can turn a ten-minute trip into an hour. A local chauffeur reads those signals before you land.
Booking is with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com. Our 24/7 desk confirms it, a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local operator from our worldwide directory drives it, and you get one confirmation and one invoice.
Logan terminals and what they mean for your pickup
Logan has four terminals lettered A, B, C and E. Terminal E is the international terminal, and the others serve mainly domestic flights, but airlines move between buildings, so we read the terminal from your flight number and put it in your booking confirmation. We do not guess from the airline name.

Massport, the authority that runs the airport, decides where commercial vehicles may stop, and those rules can change as roadways are rebuilt. We therefore do not print door numbers or lane names that may change. Instead:
- Your confirmation names the meeting point for your terminal.
- The driver sends a message with the plate number and vehicle description when the car is in position.
- If you add the name-board meet and greet, a representative meets you inside the arrivals area with a board showing your name, or an alias for privacy, and walks you and your bags to the car.
Early drivers do not circle the terminal roads. They wait outside the immediate area and come in when you message that you have your bags. Please do the same: the sooner you message, the shorter the wait.
Customs, immigration and waiting time
Passengers arriving from outside the United States are processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Logan does not publish a standard wait. Peak transatlantic arrivals in the morning, when several European flights land together, are the slowest.
- International arrivals: 60 minutes of free waiting after landing are included.
- Domestic arrivals: 30 minutes of free waiting after landing are included.
- Mobile Passport Control: U.S. Customs and Border Protection lists Boston Logan among the airports where eligible travelers can use Mobile Passport Control.
- Visa Waiver travelers need an approved ESTA before boarding. See U.S. Customs and Border Protection's ESTA page.
Flight tracking means a delayed or early aircraft changes the plan without a call. Message the driver when you are through customs and the car will be waiting.
Drive times from Logan
Because Logan is close to everything, the time depends on the tunnel and the hour more than on the distance.
| From BOS to | Distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown and the Financial District | about 5 km (3 mi) | 10 to 40 minutes |
| Back Bay | about 8 km (5 mi) | 15 to 50 minutes |
| Fenway Park | about 8 km (5 mi) | 15 to 50 minutes |
| Cambridge and Harvard Square | about 11 km (7 mi) | 20 to 60 minutes |
| Salem | about 28 km (17 mi) | 30 to 70 minutes |
| Providence, Rhode Island | about 80 km (50 mi) | 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes |
| Newport, Rhode Island | about 120 km (75 mi) | 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes |
| Cape Cod National Seashore | about 150 km (93 mi) | 2 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes |
Summer Fridays on the road to the Cape, and Sunday afternoons coming back, are the longest. Weekday rush hours run from about 7 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m. Late evening is fast.
Logan compared with the Silver Line, Blue Line and taxi
For a solo traveler with a small bag, public transit at Logan is better than at most American airports, and we say so plainly. The MBTA's Airport station on the Blue Line, at Transportation Way and Service Road, has elevators and escalators to its platforms, and the subway fare is $2.40 one way as of 2026, according to the MBTA. The Silver Line, which is covered by subway fares, connects to South Station, where the Red Line, commuter rail and Amtrak connect. The MBTA's South Station page lists the Red Line, the Silver Line routes SL1, SL2 and SL3 and eight commuter rail lines at 700 Atlantic Avenue. Check the MBTA site for the shuttle that links the terminals to the station.

| Option | Typical time to Back Bay | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Line or Silver Line | 25 to 45 minutes | lowest | solo travelers, light luggage, rush hour |
| Taxi | 15 to 50 minutes | metered, plus tunnel tolls | one or two passengers |
| Ride app | 15 to 50 minutes | surge-priced at peaks | short notice |
| Private chauffeur | 15 to 50 minutes | fixed fare via the booker | groups, families, early flights, Cambridge and suburban addresses |
Rail is excellent when your hotel is on a line and your plans are flexible. A chauffeur is better when you land at 11 p.m. with three bags, you are going to a house in the suburbs, or you have a 6 a.m. flight and the first train has not started. For an exact fare, use the online booker.
Early flights, winter and the tunnel factor
Logan departures start early, and the first Blue Line trains do not always match a 6 a.m. check-in. A chauffeur pickup at 3:45 or 4 a.m. is routine, and the road is empty, so the drive from Back Bay takes about 15 minutes. The harder cases are the other end of the day and the winter. A nor'easter can close secondary roads and slow the tunnels, and a delayed flight can land hours late in a thin snowfall. Flight tracking handles the second problem. For the first, we suggest a Luxury SUV for winter bookings when the party has bags, and the desk sets the pickup time with a margin.
Event nights matter in a small city. A Red Sox home game at Fenway, a concert or a conference reception changes the streets for blocks around, and a driver who knows the barricades drops you at the right corner. If your hotel is on the waterfront, tell us the entrance you prefer, since many Seaport properties have a separate arrivals court. Our desk records it on the booking so the driver arrives with it in hand.
Hotels, hospitals and campuses
Boston is a city of institutions. Logan's busiest weeks are tied to universities and hospitals: late-summer move-in days, spring commencements, medical conferences and the weeks when the marathon and the big conventions fill the hotels. These are the weeks to book early.
- Cambridge: Harvard and MIT are across the Charles. Read our guides to Harvard University and Cambridge for drop-off points that avoid the pedestrian zones.
- Back Bay and the Longwood medical area: hotels and hospitals lie within a short drive. We can arrange a named driver for repeat appointments.
- Conventions: group arrivals suit an Executive Sprinter with one coordinator. See conference transportation.
- Corporate travel: a corporate account with monthly invoicing keeps the paperwork to one statement. See corporate car service.
Boston sights and day trips
Boston's sights are compact, and a half day with a car works well when you want to see them in comfort.

- The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile (4 km) walking route; read the Freedom Trail for the sections where a car can drop you.
- Fenway Park: about 8 km (5 mi) from Logan, see Fenway Park for game-day closures.
- Newport mansions: about 120 km (75 mi) away. Read Newport Mansions and plan a full day.
- Cape Cod National Seashore: about 150 km (93 mi). Read Cape Cod National Seashore before choosing the date.
For multi-stop days see the Boston limo service page and our private tours with a driver.
Vehicles for Boston
Exact models are confirmed at booking. All are late-model, fully maintained and inspected, no more than four model years old.
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6 or Lyriq, or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali or similar): up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags. A good choice in winter, when snow can close secondary roads.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags.
Stretch limousines, mini-coaches and coaches are available on request, as are Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, with availability confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request. Most vehicles carry water and phone chargers. See the fleet for more.
Rail, cruise and private aviation connections
South Station is the hub for Amtrak and the eight commuter rail lines the MBTA lists. Our train station transfers page covers the process, and the train stations hub lists the stations we serve. For ships, the cruise ports hub and cruise transfers pages cover embarkation days. For private flights, see the private aviation hub and the private jet car service page; we coordinate with your handler and meet the aircraft where the operator permits.
Discretion, trade accounts and protocol
Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request and alias bookings are available. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company: no armed drivers or bodyguards, and we work alongside a client's own security team. Trade accounts are available for travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges. Official tourist offices, tourism boards, convention and visitor bureaus and visitor centres can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account. See the airports hub, the New York airports for the nearest big-city gateway and the North America directory.
Cancellations
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or no-show: 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. A delayed flight moves the pickup and is not a no-show.
