What is a train station car service?

A train station car service is a pre-booked chauffeur who meets you at a railway station, helps with luggage and drives you to your hotel, meeting or next transport. It is built around the station's actual layout: which exit trains empty into, where private cars may wait, and what happens when the train is late.

Big stations are not like airports. There is no single arrivals hall, no flight-information board that every driver reads, and the right pickup point often depends on the train you are on. A Eurostar from London arrives in a closed platform area; an Amtrak at New York Penn Station arrives below ground; a Shinkansen at Tokyo Station stops on the second floor of a very large complex. A chauffeur who has done it before makes the difference.

LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books station pickups in cities around the world. Our 24/7 booking desk, plans each meeting, and the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory. You get one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one point of contact.

The journey from platform to kerb

Every station pickup has the same four steps, and each can go wrong in a different way.

  1. Platform to concourse. Some stations let you walk straight off the platform into the main hall. Others require you to pass through ticket gates, border control or a security check first.
  2. Concourse to exit. Large stations have many exits. The wrong one can mean a ten-minute walk with luggage and a different street.
  3. Exit to vehicle. Cars may not be allowed to stop at the main entrance. Taxi ranks and private-car waiting areas are often separate.
  4. Vehicle to destination. The first kilometre away from a station is often the slowest.

The chauffeur's role is to shorten steps two and three. Before the trip, we agree the exit, the meeting point and what the chauffeur will hold. If you can, reply with a photo of your ticket showing carriage and seat number, so that the chauffeur can estimate where you will leave the train.

Meeting points and name-boards

For a pickup inside the station, a name-board meet-and-greet is available as an add-on, with an alias on the board for privacy if you prefer. For most pickups, a message with the chauffeur's description and vehicle details is enough: the chauffeur waits at the agreed exit or kerb, and you walk out.

Standard waiting time on pickups other than airports is 15 minutes, and trains do run late. Give the desk the train number and the scheduled arrival time. If you hear of a delay, tell the desk; longer waiting can be agreed at booking where you expect it, such as on a long-distance service with a history of lateness.

Station notes

These details come from station operators and published guidance and can change. Treat them as a starting point; your chauffeur will confirm the day's arrangement.

New York Penn Station and Moynihan Train Hall

Amtrak's station page says taxi pick-up is on 31st Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, and rideshare and pick-up or drop-off is in the 33rd Street mid-block area, also between 8th and 9th Avenues. The Moynihan Train Hall FAQ says groups arriving or departing by private group transport should use 33rd Street, with the recommended group meeting point between the AirTrain Information kiosk and Amtrak Ticketing and Customer Service. The hall has four entrances: two on 8th Avenue at the corners with 31st and 33rd Streets, and two midway between 8th and 9th Avenues. A private chauffeur is therefore typically on 33rd Street. At Penn Station, tracks are generally announced shortly before departure, so for a departing trip, the car can take you to the station and you find your track on the board. See the Penn Station page, the New York limo service and Washington Union Station for the other end of the Northeast Corridor.

London St Pancras (Eurostar)

Taxi pick-up for arrivals is reported on Midland Road beside the Thameslink entrance, and pre-booked cars are directed to Pancras Road, which is one-way and reached from Euston Road, according to station guidance. For a Eurostar departure, the Pancras Road drop-off zone leads directly to Eurostar departures. For passengers on the Eurostar to Paris, the EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, and Eurostar installed processing machines at St Pancras, so non-EU passengers should expect biometric registration on their first journey and allow extra time. Eurostar's historic guidance is to arrive 90 minutes before departure, and forum reports suggest two hours for some travellers; use the time printed on your ticket. See St Pancras and the London chauffeur service.

Paris Gare du Nord

Eurostar's arrivals walk straight off the platform onto the concourse. The station address is 18 Rue de Dunkerque, and the taxi rank is on the western side of the concourse, which can have long lines in bad weather. We did not find a published private-car pick-up point for Gare du Nord, so your chauffeur operator confirms the spot before the day instead of relying on a general rule. Gare du Nord is in central Paris, and Paris's low-emission zone uses Crit'Air stickers; your chauffeur operator manages compliance. See Gare du Nord and the Paris chauffeur service.

Rome Termini

RFI lists two taxi points at Termini, in Piazza dei Cinquecento and Via Marsala, both open from 05:30 to 01:00. Taxi lines at peak times and in rain can be long, which is one reason to pre-book a car. Much of central Rome is a limited-traffic zone (ZTL), and your driver will use permitted access and an agreed pickup point rather than driving into restricted streets. For a high-speed arrival, such as a Frecciarossa, give the desk the train number. For cruise passengers: trains from Termini to Civitavecchia run roughly every 30 minutes and take one to one and a half hours, while the road from Fiumicino airport to Civitavecchia is about 65 to 70 km (40 to 44 miles), roughly an hour. See Roma Termini, the Rome chauffeur service and cruise transfers.

Tokyo Station and the Shinkansen

Shinkansen platforms at Tokyo Station are on the upper level, and passengers go down to the ground floor to leave. The Yaesu side, on the east of the station, is close to the Shinkansen platforms. Different Shinkansen lines use different gates, so check the exit for your service on the signage and your ticket. For luggage, hotels in Japan commonly arrange forwarding by courier (takkyubin), and in many cases bags are sent a day ahead of your arrival. A chauffeur is useful when you have a connecting schedule, mobility needs or heavy luggage. See the Tokyo chauffeur service and the Haneda airport page.

Other major stations

We also cover Toronto Union Station, Zürich Hauptbahnhof and Madrid Atocha. See the full train stations hub.

Platform changes, delays and luggage

Platform changes. At some large terminals, including Penn Station, the track is announced shortly before departure, which creates a rush. For departures, we recommend arriving earlier than the train's boarding time, and your chauffeur drops you at the entrance closest to the departure hall.

Airport departures kerb
Airport departures kerb

Delays. If your train is delayed, tell the desk. The chauffeur adjusts the pickup time. Standard waiting time on non-airport pickups is 15 minutes, and a longer wait can be agreed in advance.

Luggage. Stations rarely have porters at the kerb. The chauffeur loads and unloads your bags. An Executive Sedan carries up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags; a Luxury SUV up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags; an Executive Sprinter 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags. See Sprinter van with driver.

Border control. For international rail such as Eurostar, border control happens at the departure station. That means the arrival end can be quick, but the departure end needs extra time.

What to send the desk for a station pickup

A station booking needs slightly different information from an airport booking. Send:

  1. The station and, if you know it, the exit or side you prefer, for example the Yaesu side at Tokyo Station or 33rd Street at Penn Station.
  2. The train operator, train number and scheduled arrival time. Operators and numbers identify the service; the time alone is not enough when several trains arrive together.
  3. Carriage number if you have a reserved seat. On long platforms, carriage position tells the chauffeur how far you are from the exit.
  4. Passengers and luggage. Count the cases and note any oversize items, strollers or mobility equipment.
  5. Your mobile number and the name on the booking, or the alias you want on the board.
  6. Where you are going next, including a flight or ship time if the transfer ends at an airport or port.

With that, the desk can choose the vehicle class, agree the meeting point with the operator and tell you exactly where to walk.

Three kinds of rail arrival, three kinds of plan

Intercity and commuter-corridor trains, such as Amtrak in the Northeast, arrive frequently, and the main risk is the crowd. The plan is a clear meeting point outside the main hall, and a message when you leave the train.

International high-speed trains, such as Eurostar, carry border formalities at the departure end. On arrival you walk straight out, which makes the meeting quick, but the departure end needs time for registration and checks.

Domestic high-speed trains with limited stops, such as the Shinkansen, run to a tight timetable, and the stations are enormous. The plan is the exit, not the minute.

Rail-and-air combinations

Many journeys combine a train with a flight. A chauffeur can take you from the airport to a station, or the reverse. Our airport car service is flight-tracked, with 60 minutes of free waiting after landing for international arrivals and 30 minutes domestic. Where rail links the airport directly to the city, a train costs less and can be faster. Ask the desk to compare the options for your route.

If your hotel is two stops away on the metro and you are travelling light, take the metro. A chauffeur earns its place with luggage, a group, children, a tight connection or a station whose taxi line has a bad reputation.

Corporate and trade accounts

Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing suit businesses that send staff on regular rail trips. Trade accounts are available for travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges. See corporate car service and travel trade.

Cancellation

Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less or no-show: 100%. If a train is cancelled or rescheduled, tell the desk as soon as you know and we will see what can be moved.

Frequently asked questions

Can a chauffeur meet me on the platform?

Generally not. Station platforms are restricted to ticketed passengers. The chauffeur waits at the agreed exit or concourse point, or at the kerb, and meets you there. A name-board meet-and-greet in the concourse is available as an add-on where the station allows it.

Where does a private car pick up at Penn Station in New York?

Amtrak places rideshare and pick-up or drop-off in the 33rd Street mid-block area between 8th and 9th Avenues, and the Moynihan Train Hall asks private group transport to use 33rd Street. Taxis use 31st Street. Your chauffeur will confirm the exact spot.

What if my train is late?

Tell the desk. The chauffeur adjusts. Standard waiting time on pickups other than airports is 15 minutes, and you can agree a longer wait at booking if you expect a delay.

How early should I arrive for a Eurostar from London?

Use the time on your ticket. Eurostar has historically asked for 90 minutes, and the EU's Entry/Exit System, fully operational since 10 April 2026, can add time for passengers who need to register. We drop you at the entrance for Eurostar departures.

Is a taxi from the station lower in cost than a chauffeur?

Usually, yes in simple fare terms, and when there is no queue a taxi is a good choice. A pre-booked chauffeur gives a fixed fare quoted before you book, no taxi line, and luggage help, and is better at busy hours, in bad weather or with a group.

Can you pick up from several trains at the same station?

Yes. Send each train number, the scheduled arrival and the names of passengers. The desk groups travellers who arrive close together and sends separate vehicles for those who arrive far apart.

Do you cover stations in smaller cities?

Wherever our directory has a vetted, licensed, commercially insured local operator. Tell the desk the station and date and availability is confirmed at booking.

Can you take me from a station to a cruise port or airport?

Yes. Give the desk your train arrival time and the ship or flight time, and we plan back from the deadline. See cruise transfers and the airport car service.
