Farnborough Airport car service: the short version
Farnborough Airport car service is a pre-booked chauffeur who collects passengers from a private aircraft at Farnborough Airport in Hampshire and drives them to London, Windsor, Ascot, Heathrow or any address in the south of England. The chauffeur is booked in advance because the airport only admits pre-booked private hire vehicles.
Farnborough is not like a multi-FBO field such as Teterboro or Van Nuys. It is a dedicated business-aviation airport that runs its own terminal, and it describes itself as the UK's pre-eminent business-aviation airport on its official website. That makes the FBO question simple, since there is one, and it makes the vehicle-access question specific, because the airport publishes its own rules.
A desk, staffed day and night, takes the booking. The car comes from a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local operator in our worldwide directory, and the desk confirms it and sends one invoice, so the whole trip has one reference and one contact. In the United Kingdom the operator is a licensed private hire operator.
What are the airport's rules for visiting cars?

Farnborough Airport's regulations say a Private Hire Vehicle may only enter to load passengers if it was pre-booked, and may only load in an official car park designated by the airport. The airport also says passengers can drive their own vehicle directly to the aircraft. A chauffeur car is booked in advance and waits where the airport directs.
Those two lines tell you most of what you need to know. The airport's rules and regulations also set airside conditions for any vehicle: drivers may enter apron and manoeuvring areas only where the airport has allocated them, speed is limited to 20 mph on the apron or roads unless a sign says otherwise, seatbelts are mandatory in front and back, and a handheld phone may not be used by the driver. Ground handling is carried out only by the airport company or approved third parties.
On the passenger side, the airport's passengers and pets page describes a concierge who meets arrivals at the terminal entrance and takes care of luggage. Customs, immigration and screening are handled on site, and passengers are then escorted to the aircraft for boarding. It describes the option of driving directly to your aircraft for a departure, with the vehicle ready when the aircraft stairs are lowered, and complimentary secure car parking with EV charging directly outside the terminal for the length of your trip.
So there are two models at Farnborough, and the right one depends on who is driving. If a passenger drives their own car, the airport can arrange the aircraft-side arrangement. If a chauffeur company drives, it is a pre-booked private hire vehicle, and the pickup is at the designated car park by the terminal. We do not promise planeside access for a chauffeur-driven car; we confirm the pickup point with the airport team and tell you in advance.
Hours, slots and when the airport is open
Farnborough sits in a town and is bound by planning conditions. Rushmoor Borough Council, the local planning authority, states that flights are permitted between 7 am and 10 pm on weekdays and between 8 am and 8 pm at weekends and on bank holidays, except in an emergency, and that no flying is permitted on Christmas Day or Boxing Day (Rushmoor Borough Council).
That has practical consequences. A late departure from London for a flight at 9:45 pm leaves very little room for traffic on the M3. An aircraft arriving after 8 pm on a Saturday is outside the normal weekend window. Business-aviation movements are planned against a confirmed time, and the desk plans the car around that time, not around hope. Tell us the confirmed time, not just the day.
Distances and drive times from Farnborough
Farnborough is south-west of London, on the Hampshire and Surrey border. The airport says a drive of under 60 minutes to central London is possible, with a 12-minute helicopter alternative. In reality, the M3 and the A3 are the two main roads, and the time depends on the hour. Distances are approximate road distances.
| Journey to | Distance | Usual drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central London (Mayfair, Belgravia) | about 56 km (35 mi) | 60-110 min | M3, then the A316 and the Chiswick or Hammersmith approaches |
| London Heathrow (LHR) | about 45 km (28 mi) | 40-75 min | M3 and M25; the M25 junction with the M3 is the choke point |
| Ascot | about 25 km (15 mi) | 25-45 min | A332 and local roads; very slow on race days |
| Windsor Castle | about 35 km (22 mi) | 35-60 min | M3, M25 and the A332 |
| Stonehenge | about 85 km (53 mi) | 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 45 min | A303 |
| Oxford | about 100 km (62 mi) | 1 hr 20 min to 1 hr 50 min | A34 |
| St Pancras (Eurostar) | about 60 km (37 mi) | 70-120 min | Through central London |
Treat the figures as guides; the online booker works from your real addresses and returns a fixed fare before you confirm.
London's charges and restrictions, briefly
A Farnborough transfer ends inside London, where two charges can apply: the Congestion Charge in the central zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone, which covers the whole of Greater London. Transport for London publishes the Congestion Charge rules, including operating hours of 7:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 12:00 to 18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays. Whether a given private hire vehicle pays is a question for the operator. Our vehicles are late-model and the operator manages its own compliance; we mention it so you are not surprised by a line on the confirmation. For the city itself, see our London chauffeur service page.

Entry rules: the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation
Most visitors who do not need a visa need an Electronic Travel Authorisation to enter the UK. The government's guidance says travelers from places such as Europe, the USA, Australia and Canada usually need an ETA, that each person in a group needs their own, including babies and children, and that British and Irish passport holders do not. An ETA allows travel for up to six months and does not guarantee entry. It applies to private arrivals too, since the passenger still clears UK border control at the airport. Check the official ETA guidance, which the airport links from its own page, and apply before departure.
Windsor, Ascot, Oxford and Stonehenge by car
Farnborough's position makes it convenient for three kinds of trip.
- Windsor and the Thames Valley. Windsor Castle is about 35 km (22 mi) away. The official site governs tickets and the state-room schedule; the guide covers the car approach.
- Royal Ascot and the racing calendar. Royal Ascot is held in June at Ascot racecourse, about 25 km (15 mi) from the airport. Race-day traffic around the course is slow, and the chauffeur is briefed on the approach.
- Oxford, Stonehenge and the countryside. The Oxford guide and Stonehenge guide cover the day trips. The Stonehenge guide explains the ticket system, and a licensed guide is separate from the chauffeur, who drives and suggests stops.
In central London, the Tower of London, the London Eye and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour are the three guides most visitors from a private arrival read first.
Farnborough compared with Heathrow and the train
Farnborough is for passengers on a private aircraft. For others on a London trip, the alternatives are different, and a lower-cost option is sometimes the better one.

| Option | Approx. time to central London | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur from Farnborough, booked in advance | 60-110 min | Fixed fare via the booker | Private-jet passengers, families, executives, groups with luggage |
| Taxi from the airport | 60-110 min | Metered over a long journey | Rarely practical for a trip of this length |
| Own car, driven by a passenger | 60-110 min | Your own costs | Guests who want to drive and know the roads |
| Train from Farnborough Main or North station | Varies | Lowest | Crew, staff or visitors with little luggage |
| Commercial arrival at Heathrow instead | 45-90 min plus terminal time | Often the lowest airfare | Passengers on an airline itinerary |
If you are traveling alone with a single bag and are not on a private aircraft, the train and the Heathrow routes are the lower-cost choices. The chauffeur wins when several of you travel together, when luggage matters, or when the arrival time is uncertain. For commercial arrivals at the largest London airport, see our Heathrow page.
Vehicles and capacity
UK bookings use Mercedes-Benz models, offered "or similar" and fixed on the confirmation.
An Executive Sedan (E-Class) or First Class Sedan (S-Class or BMW 7 Series) seats up to three passengers with two large and two cabin bags. A Luxury SUV or van, typically a V-Class or comparable large SUV, takes up to six passengers and five to six large bags. The Executive Sprinter carries 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags. If you need a stretch limousine, mini-coach, coach, Maybach, Rolls-Royce or Bentley, ask when you book and we confirm availability then.
All vehicles are late-model and are maintained and inspected to a fixed standard: no more than four model years, or seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach. Child, toddler and booster seats are available if requested, and water and phone chargers are in most cars. See the fleet page for the full list.
Discretion, security and recurring programs
Farnborough is the airport many London-bound executives, entertainers and families choose for privacy, and the car should match. The chauffeur does not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are available on request, and the booking can use an alias. We do not run a security business: there are no armed drivers or bodyguards, and the chauffeur works alongside a client's own protection team.
When an itinerary continues beyond London, a single desk keeps the paperwork together. A Paris Le Bourget leg the next day uses the same booking process, and our private jet car service page explains FBO work worldwide. The private aviation hub lists the other airports we cover. Corporate accounts carry monthly invoicing, and trade accounts are open to travel agents, destination management companies and hotel concierges.
Changes, delays and cancellations
On the day, we follow the flight and move the chauffeur to the real landing time. After landing, 60 minutes of waiting are free on international arrivals and 30 on domestic ones; other pickups include 15 minutes.
Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours out, there is no charge. At 72 hours or less you pay 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or on a no-show, 100%. A large event may have its own deadline, stated on the confirmation.
The Farnborough International Airshow is usually held at the airport in July of even-numbered years, and in that week the roads around the airport are very busy. If your trip falls in that period, book early and give the desk the aircraft details as soon as you have them.
