Is a car service worth it at Atlanta's airport when MARTA is right there?
Sometimes it is not. MARTA's rail station sits inside the domestic terminal and runs into the city for a single fare. For one traveler with light luggage and a hotel near a station, rail is the best value. A pre-booked chauffeur makes sense for groups, heavy bags, late arrivals, Buckhead and suburban addresses and fixed schedules.
We prefer to start with the honest comparison, because Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has a rail station at the domestic terminal. Plenty of Atlanta visitors should use it. The rest of this page is for the travelers who should not.
When you book with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com, our 24/7 booking desk confirms the booking, a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local operator from our worldwide directory drives it, and you receive one confirmation and one invoice. The driver tracks your flight from departure, so an early landing, a delay or a gate change does not need a phone call.
What the airport looks like from a driver's seat
Hartsfield-Jackson is built as two terminal buildings. The domestic terminal is divided into a north and a south baggage claim, and the international terminal stands apart, with a free shuttle bus from the domestic baggage claim to the International Airport Terminal, as MARTA's own airport page notes. Airlines operate from a series of concourses linked by an underground train, and you may land at a concourse far from the terminal building. What this means for a pickup:

- The meeting point depends on which building you use, not which concourse you land at. Domestic arrivals leave the secure area through the domestic terminal's baggage claim areas. International arrivals clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the international terminal.
- Landing is not the same as being ready. An aircraft parked at a far concourse can add a long train ride before baggage claim. Flight tracking tells the driver when you have landed, and your message tells the driver when you have your bags.
- The terminal changes the instruction, so we confirm the building from your flight number in writing and update it if the airline changes it.
We do not publish specific door numbers or lanes here, because the airport reassigns them with construction and event traffic. Your booking confirmation carries the current meeting point, and the chauffeur sends a message with the plate number and vehicle description when the car is in place.
If you prefer a person to a text message, add the name-board meet and greet. A representative meets you inside the arrivals area with your name on a board, or an alias for privacy, and walks you to the vehicle. It suits first-time visitors, families, and executives travelling with assistants.
Customs, immigration and how long to allow
Flights from abroad are processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection before you reach your driver. The airport does not publish a standard wait, and the real figure depends on how many wide-body arrivals landed together.
- International arrivals: 60 minutes of free waiting after landing are included.
- Domestic arrivals: 30 minutes of free waiting after landing are included.
- Mobile Passport Control: U.S. Customs and Border Protection lists Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson among the airports where eligible travelers can use Mobile Passport Control. It speeds up processing and requires a passport.
- Visa Waiver travelers need an approved ESTA before they board; see U.S. Customs and Border Protection's ESTA page.
Atlanta is a major connecting hub, and many international passengers clear customs at Atlanta and then connect onward. If you are only passing through, our service is rarely needed. If Atlanta is your destination, tell the driver you are held in the line and the clock is extended.
Drive times from ATL
The airport is south of the city. Interstate 85 and Interstate 75 merge into the Downtown Connector north of the airport, and most trips into town use it. The Perimeter, I-285, rings the city and is the route to the north-side suburbs.
| From ATL to | Distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown Atlanta | about 17 km (11 mi) | 20 to 60 minutes |
| Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Georgia Aquarium | about 17 km (11 mi) | 20 to 60 minutes |
| Midtown | about 19 km (12 mi) | 25 to 65 minutes |
| Buckhead | about 26 km (16 mi) | 30 to 75 minutes |
| Stone Mountain Park | about 40 km (25 mi) | 40 to 80 minutes |
| Alpharetta | about 55 km (34 mi) | 55 to 110 minutes |
| Athens, Georgia | about 130 km (80 mi) | 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes |
| Savannah | about 400 km (250 mi) | 3 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours |
Atlanta's rush hours are long. On weekdays the roads clog from about 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 3:30 to 7 p.m., and a crash on the Connector can double a trip. Rain adds to it. Early mornings, midday and late evenings are fast. We quote a fixed fare, so a long jam changes the pickup time and not the price.
ATL compared with MARTA, taxi and rideshare
The airport is served by MARTA's Airport Station, the final station at the south end of the Red and Gold lines. According to MARTA, it sits at the west end of the domestic terminal between the north and south baggage claim areas. Train hours run weekdays from 4:45 a.m. to 1 a.m. and weekends from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. A single-ride fare is $2.50 as of 2026, with transfers allowed, according to MARTA's fares page. After rush hour, riders to Buckhead, the Medical Center, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs or North Springs may need to transfer to the Red Line at Lindbergh Center.

| Option | Typical time to Midtown | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| MARTA rail | varies by station; see MARTA's schedule | lowest | one or two travelers going to a station-adjacent hotel |
| Taxi | 25 to 65 minutes | metered | one or two passengers |
| Ride app | 25 to 65 minutes | surge-priced at peaks | short notice |
| Private chauffeur | 25 to 65 minutes | fixed fare via the booker | groups, Buckhead and the suburbs, late arrivals, fixed meetings |
Rail has real limits. It stops at fixed stations, so a hotel on the far side of Peachtree needs a second leg. After 1 a.m. there is no train. With three suitcases the rail station feels farther than it looks. And outside the core, rail does not reach the places where a lot of business is done: Alpharetta, Cumberland and the north-side campuses.
Layovers, early arrivals and the day-room problem
Because Atlanta is a connecting hub, a surprising number of our bookings are not arrivals at all. A traveler lands at 7 a.m., has a meeting in Midtown at 10 and an onward flight at 9 p.m. The sensible plan is a single day booking: the car meets the flight, drops at the meeting, waits or returns on a schedule, and delivers you back to the departure terminal with enough margin for security. We would rather build that plan once with you than send three separate cars.
Two cautions. First, check in for your onward flight before you leave the airport if your airline allows it, and ask about checking bags through, because retrieving them adds time. Second, allow for the airport's own distances on the way back: a long walk and a train ride separate the terminal building from the far concourses, and the check-in and security queues on a Monday morning or a Sunday evening can be long. Our desk will propose a pickup time for the return that reflects the day and the terminal, and your driver will confirm it the night before.
Fixed-fare chauffeur transfers for conventions and events
Atlanta is a convention and sports city. Event days reshape the roads around Downtown, and a chauffeur who tracks the schedule knows which exit to use and where the barriers go up.
- Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Georgia Aquarium are close to each other, about 17 km (11 mi) from the airport. Read our Georgia Aquarium guide for entry and drop-off.
- Conventions at downtown venues are best handled with an Executive Sprinter and a named meeting point; see conference transportation and event transportation.
- Group arrivals can be dispatched to a hotel block with one coordinator and several pickup times.
Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing are available, as are trade accounts for travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges. See the corporate car service page, the Atlanta limo service overview and our roadshow car service for multi-city programs.

Beyond the city: Savannah and day trips
Long-distance trips from Atlanta are well suited to a private driver, because the scenery is rural and public transport does not go there. Savannah is about 400 km (250 mi) from the airport, 3 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours. Read our Savannah Historic District guide before you choose between a day trip and an overnight stay, and see the long-distance car service page for details of multi-hour bookings. A day in the north Georgia hills, a college football weekend in Athens or a wedding at a mountain venue are common requests.
For private aviation, tell us the airfield and the operator and we will coordinate with the handler. See our private jet car service page and the private aviation hub.
Discretion and protocol
Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request and alias bookings are available. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company: no armed drivers or bodyguards, and we work alongside a client's own security team. Official tourist offices, tourism boards, convention and visitor bureaus and visitor centres can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account. See also the airports hub, the Miami airport page for Florida connections and the North America directory.
Cancellations
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or no-show: 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. A delayed flight moves the pickup and is not a no-show.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Hartsfield-Jackson from Downtown Atlanta?
About 17 km (11 mi). A private car usually takes 20 to 60 minutes, depending on Interstates 85 and 75 and the time of day.
Can I take MARTA from the airport?
Yes. According to MARTA, Airport Station is the final station at the south end of the Red and Gold lines and sits at the west end of the domestic terminal between the north and south baggage claim areas. The single-ride fare is $2.50 as of 2026.
Where does my chauffeur meet me at ATL?
Your confirmation gives the current meeting point for your building, and the driver messages the plate number and vehicle description when the car is in place. With the name-board service, a representative meets you inside the arrivals area.
How long will the driver wait if my flight is late?
Flight tracking moves the pickup. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing and domestic arrivals 30 minutes. Other pickups include 15 minutes.
Which Atlanta terminal is my airline in?
Atlanta has a domestic terminal and an international terminal. Your airline and flight number decide which you use. We confirm it in writing and update it if the airline changes the arrangement.
Is a car service better value than a taxi or ride app from ATL?
Not always. A taxi is metered and a ride app can surge at peak times, so for one or two passengers on a short trip they can be competitive. A chauffeur booking has a fixed fare quoted before you book. Check the exact fare in the online booker.
Can you take me from Atlanta airport to Savannah?
Yes. Savannah is about 400 km (250 mi) away, 3 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours. Many travelers book a driver for the day or a one-way transfer.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking.
