Port of Seattle cruise terminals transportation: two piers, one decision

Every Alaska cruise out of Seattle begins at one of two piers, and they are several kilometers apart. Pier 66, the Bell Street Cruise Terminal, sits on the downtown waterfront. Pier 91, the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, lies to the north-west of downtown below Magnolia. If the driver goes to the wrong one, the correction costs a crossing of the city. The first thing to settle, therefore, is the pier on your boarding documents.

LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books Port of Seattle cruise terminal transportation through a 24/7 desk. A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory delivers the ride, and the desk handles confirmation and invoicing, so you have one confirmation and one point of contact from the airport curb to the terminal door.

Pier 66 or Pier 91? What the Port of Seattle says

The Port of Seattle publishes a page for each terminal, and the practical facts differ.

Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66, 2225 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98121. The port lists Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises here. A ground transportation lot sits directly in front of the terminal entrance, with taxi load and unload, shuttle service and private vehicle drop-off, and a security officer on Alaskan Way directs traffic. Cars use the curb lane to drop off. A 1,500-space garage across the street, the Bell Street Pier garage at 9 Wall Street, has a 6 foot 6 inch height limit. See the port's Bell Street Cruise Terminal page.

Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91, 2001 W Garfield Way, Seattle, WA 98119. The port lists Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages. It has a ground transportation lot near the entrance, a dedicated rideshare lot and a cell phone waiting lot for pickups. Public transit is not available to this terminal, as the port states plainly. See the port's Smith Cove Cruise Terminal page.

Assignments change by season and sailing, so the document in your hand governs. Give the desk the cruise line, ship name and pier when you book.

How far is Sea-Tac Airport from the Seattle cruise terminals?

Seattle-Tacoma International is about 23 km (14 mi) from either Seattle cruise terminal. The Port of Seattle quotes about 30 to 40 minutes by car to both Pier 66 and Pier 91. Add time at rush hour on I-5, and on days when several ships sail at once.

The drive from Sea-Tac north on I-5 is short in distance but variable in time, because I-5 through the city has a reputation for slowing at both ends of the working day. The destination also matters: Pier 66 is reached from the Mercer Street area to Broad Street and Alaskan Way, while Pier 91 is reached by the Magnolia Bridge. Our local operators know both and the sequence of closures. For the airport end of the journey, see the Seattle-Tacoma airport page and our Seattle limo service page.

Why a chauffeur makes sense for Pier 91 in particular

Pier 91 has no public transit. The port's page says it in a single line. Light rail from Sea-Tac stops in downtown Seattle, and the bus stop near the terminal is permanently closed, so the realistic options are a taxi, rideshare, an airport shuttle, a coach arranged through your cruise line or a private car. That removes the lowest-cost public option and leaves a straightforward comparison.

At the airport, the port directs taxis and rideshare pickups to the third floor of the Sea-Tac parking garage, with taxis on the north and south curbs. Those pickups work, but they are airport-wide systems that fill on cruise changeover days. A chauffeur meets you at arrivals, on a name board if you wish, with the vehicle and the luggage handled together. For international arrivals, the free waiting period is 60 minutes after landing, and for domestic arrivals 30 minutes.

Light rail to Pier 66 is the best low-cost route in the city if your bags are light: ride into downtown and walk or take a short taxi. It does not help with Pier 91. A taxi is fine for a couple with two cases. A private car pays for itself with a larger group, a long Alaska packing list, or an arrival time that does not fit a cruise-line coach.

Port Valet and cruise luggage

The Port of Seattle runs a complimentary luggage transfer called Port Valet for cruise passengers, and the Visit Seattle cruise page describes it as a way to send bags from the ship to your domestic flight so you can explore the city first. If you plan to use it, you can tour with a lighter load, which changes the vehicle you need. At the terminals, the port also lists same-day luggage storage by the bag. These services are run by the port, not by us, so check the terminal page for current terms.

Embarkation day: arriving on a Seattle morning

Cruise lines set boarding windows, and Seattle's ships are large. Arrive in the middle of your window and expect porters, security screening and then check-in. A driver who knows the terminal enters by the proper lane and unloads at the curb. If you are staying downtown, the transfer to Pier 66 is only a few kilometers and a few minutes, though the Alaskan Way waterfront is busy.

If you are landing the same morning, give the desk your flight number. The operator tracks it, and the pickup time follows the real landing. Do not book a flight with an arrival close to your window; it takes at least 30 to 40 minutes from the airport to either pier and can take more.

The Alaska season and why timing matters

Seattle's cruise calendar is seasonal. Visit Seattle's preliminary schedule for 2026 listed 15 cruise brands operating 26 ships from May 15 through October 11, with roughly 330 ship calls, and noted that the schedule is subject to change. In the heart of that window, Saturdays and Sundays can see several ships turn around at the same time, and that is when both piers, the waterfront roads and the Sea-Tac curbs are at their busiest. The port publishes the following season's calendar as it is confirmed, so check it when you choose your sailing date.

What does that mean for your car? Book early for peak weekends, give the desk a precise boarding window and make sure the pickup time includes margin for the I-5 corridor. A driver who has to wait for your flight is a small cost; a missed boarding window is a large one.

Hotels, Boeing Field and the Eastside

Most guests spend the night before sailing downtown, in South Lake Union or on the Eastside. Typical distances to the piers:

  • Downtown hotels to Pier 66: 1 to 3 km (0.6 to 1.9 mi), 5 to 15 minutes.
  • Downtown hotels to Pier 91: about 6 km (4 mi), 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Bellevue and the Eastside to Pier 66: roughly 16 km (10 mi), 20 to 40 minutes over the SR 520 or I-90 bridges.
  • Boeing Field and private aviation arrivals to Pier 66: about 10 km (6 mi), 15 to 25 minutes.

Hotel concierges and travel advisers can book through a trade account; our hotel concierge bookings page explains how.

Disembarkation and onward travel

Ships dock early and passengers leave by group. For port pickups the free waiting time is 15 minutes from the scheduled time, and if your group is called late, tell the desk. If you are flying home, a flight after late morning is a safe choice. If you are staying on, a chauffeur can take you straight to a hotel or turn the morning into a half-day tour.

Seattle with a driver before or after the ship

Seattle suits a driver because the sights are spread across hills and water.

  • Pike Place Market is about 1 km (0.6 mi) from Pier 66, 5 to 10 minutes, and about 5 km (3 mi) from Pier 91, 10 to 20 minutes.
  • The Space Needle is about 1.5 km (1 mi) from Pier 66 and about 5 km (3 mi) from Pier 91, 10 to 20 minutes either way.
  • Mount Rainier National Park is roughly 150 km (95 mi) to the Paradise area, 2 to 2.5 hours each way, so it is a full day.
  • Vancouver, British Columbia, is about 230 km (143 mi) north, around three to four hours before border queues; see the Vancouver cruise page if you are connecting ships.

For a custom day, use private tours with driver. Visit Seattle's own site, visitseattle.org, lists current events.

Vehicles and special requirements

Alaska packing is bulky: parkas, boots, cameras. The Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon Denali or similar) carries up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags. The Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6/Lyriq or similar) and First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) take 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags. An Executive Sprinter takes 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags; see the Sprinter van with driver page. Stretch limousines, mini-coaches and coaches are on request, as are Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Availability is confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request. See the fleet page.

Private clients get a quiet service: chauffeurs avoid photographing or posting about clients, NDAs are signed on request, and an alias can go on the name board. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company, and we work alongside a principal's own team. Corporate accounts invoice monthly. Tourist offices and visitor bureaus can book chauffeur services for their visitors through a trade account, and travel agents and concierges can use a trade account too. For private jets landing at nearby airports, the private aviation hub lists the FBOs we serve.
