Canada Place transfers: a terminal in the middle of the city
Canada Place is unlike most cruise terminals. It sits on Vancouver's downtown waterfront, under the white sails that make it a landmark, beside hotels, restaurants, the convention centre and a SkyTrain station. Most of what makes a cruise transfer hard elsewhere, the distance from the airport and from a hotel, is easy here. What makes it demanding is the dense traffic around the entrance and the specific way vehicles are marshalled on busy sailing days.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books Canada Place transportation through a 24/7 desk. A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory delivers each ride. The desk confirms it, invoices it once and answers if plans change.
How far is Vancouver airport from Canada Place?

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is about 14 km (9 mi) from Canada Place, normally 20 to 35 minutes by car. The Canada Line SkyTrain takes about 26 minutes to Waterfront Station, a short walk from the terminal. Whistler is about 120 km (75 mi) north, around two hours.
That distance is short, but the last kilometre is slow, because vehicles for several ships converge on the same ramp. We schedule pickups from your flight, your baggage and the boarding window, with a margin for downtown traffic. The airport end is described on our Vancouver International Airport page, and the wider service on the Vancouver limo service page. If you fly in from abroad, check on the Government of Canada's electronic travel authorization page whether you need one before you board.
The Canada Place ramp, and where each vehicle goes
The Port of Vancouver's cruise directions describe how vehicles enter. Cars drive down a ramp at the foot of Howe Street, where a port traffic attendant gives instructions near the top. The driver follows the lane the attendant designates to the drop-off location, and bags go to the area marked for your ship. The port also separates ride-hailing, which is directed to level P2 of the terminal parkade. Guests should not be dropped on Canada Place Way, Howe Street or Cordova Street. The details are on the Port of Vancouver's directions and transportation page, which is worth reading before your sailing date because the arrangements shift on busy days.
For a pre-arranged chauffeur, this means a clear instruction: follow the attendant and unload where indicated. Baggage check-in at Canada Place opens between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. Pacific on the day of sailing, according to the port's passenger information, and screening takes place in the cruise ship terminal on the terminal level. Keep passports and medication in your carry-on, and tell cruise line staff your ship's name when you check in.
Canada Line SkyTrain, taxis and a chauffeur compared
| Option | Typical time from YVR to Canada Place | Cost level | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada Line SkyTrain to Waterfront Station | About 26 minutes plus a short walk | Lowest | Light packers who will carry their own bags |
| Taxi | 20 to 35 minutes | Metered | Two travelers with ordinary bags |
| Rideshare | 20 to 40 minutes | Surge-priced at peak times | Short-notice rides, with a set drop zone at the parkade |
| Cruise-line coach | 30 to 60 minutes with stops | Priced by the cruise line | Guests on a cruise package |
| Private chauffeur | 20 to 35 minutes, door to ramp | Fixed fare via the booker | Families, groups, executives and fixed schedules |
For this route the train is a strong low-cost choice. TransLink's SkyTrain page lists service roughly every 6 minutes at peak and every 8 to 15 minutes at other times, and the line ends at Waterfront, a short walk from the terminal. With one small bag per person and no mobility concerns, it is the choice we would make ourselves. A private car earns its place when you have more luggage than you can lift down stairs, when you land late, when you travel with children or elderly relatives, or when you need to be somewhere else straight after.
Arrivals: from the customs hall to the car
On an international arrival, we hold the car for 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, and 30 minutes on a domestic arrival; the operator tracks your flight and the pickup follows the real landing. A name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals can be added at booking, and the board may carry an alias. The exit route is simple: you meet the chauffeur, load the vehicle, and the drive takes the Arthur Laing Bridge and Granville Street or the Oak Street Bridge corridor into downtown.

If you arrive early and your boarding window is hours away, say so when you book. The chauffeur can take you to a hotel to drop your bags, or tour Stanley Park with the bags secured, and still reach the ramp in the middle of your window.
Before and after the ship: Vancouver with a chauffeur
Many guests add a night or two in Vancouver, and a driver makes the most of it. All distances are from Canada Place.
- Stanley Park is about 3 km (1.9 mi), 8 to 15 minutes to the park's main entrance, and the Seawall is one of the best ways to spend a pre-cruise morning.
- Granville Island is about 4 km (2.5 mi), 10 to 20 minutes.
- Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is about 13 km (8 mi), 20 to 35 minutes, on the North Shore.
- Grouse Mountain is about 14 km (8.7 mi), 25 to 35 minutes.
- Whistler Blackcomb is about 120 km (75 mi), 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes via the Sea to Sky Highway, a day trip or a one-way transfer to the village; see the Whistler limo service page.
For a planned day, look at our private tours with driver service. Destination Vancouver's cruise page lists hotels within walking distance of the terminal, plus luggage storage and wheelchair rental inside Canada Place.
Seattle to Vancouver, and Vancouver to Seattle
Alaska itineraries often begin at one city and end at the other. Seattle is about 230 km (143 mi) from Vancouver, roughly three to four hours before border queues. The drive crosses the border near Blaine, Washington. Cross-border trips follow local cabotage rules, so tell the desk early, and it will confirm how your trip is operated on each side of the line. Read the Seattle cruise terminals page for the other end.
Disembarkation: leaving the ship
Cruise ships usually dock in the early morning, and guests leave by group. The airport is close, but the cruise line's disembarkation schedule is the controlling factor, and flights leaving before late morning are risky. For port pickups there are 15 minutes of free waiting from the scheduled time. If your group is called later than planned, tell the desk and the operator adjusts.

If you are staying in the city after the ship, a pre-booked car can take you to your hotel with your bags before you explore. If you are flying out, the Canada Line can be a good option for light travelers, but the chauffeur transfer removes lifts, queues and stairs from the equation.
Mobility, wheelchairs and families
Destination Vancouver notes that wheelchair rental and luggage storage are available inside Canada Place, which helps anyone who needs extra support on embarkation day. If a guest uses a wheelchair or walker, tell the desk when you book: it affects the vehicle choice, since a Luxury SUV with a higher step may suit one guest and a lower sedan another, and it affects the plan for loading, where the chauffeur needs time and a clear curb. Families with infants should request child, toddler or booster seats at booking, not on the day, so the right seat is fitted before the pickup.
A good rule for any mixed group is to separate the people from the baggage mentally. The chauffeur handles the bags and the vehicle, and the guests walk the short distance from the drop-off to the terminal at their own pace. With a clear plan, a difficult morning becomes an easy one.
What sails from Vancouver, and when to book
Cruises leave Vancouver year-round, according to Destination Vancouver, with Alaska the best-known destination alongside Hawaii and California. For the Alaska summer, ships sail on a weekly rhythm and the busiest days bring several ships to the harbour. Book your transfer as soon as you have your cruise documents, because the best vehicles for large groups, such as Sprinters and SUVs, are the first to go on peak weekends. You can change the details later; a booking made early simply gives the desk more time to plan.
Hotels near the terminal
Several hotels are within a short walk of Canada Place, and the short rides to hotels in Yaletown, Coal Harbour, the West End and Gastown are 5 to 15 minutes, 1 to 4 km (0.6 to 2.5 mi). Richmond hotels near the airport are about 13 to 15 km (8 to 9 mi), 20 to 35 minutes. North Vancouver hotels near the SeaBus are about 8 km (5 mi), 15 to 25 minutes. A concierge or travel adviser can book on a trade account; see the hotel concierge bookings page.
Vehicles, bags and car seats
An Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6/Lyriq or similar) carries up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags, and the First Class Sedan (S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) does the same. A Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon Denali or similar) takes up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags. An Executive Sprinter is the choice for 12 to 14 guests and 12 bags, as described on the Sprinter van with driver page. Stretch limousines, mini-coaches, coaches, Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley are on request. Vehicles are late-model, fully maintained and inspected, and kept within four model years, or seven for the three luxury marques. Child, toddler and booster seats can be added at booking. The fleet page shows them.
Discretion is standard for private clients. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request and aliases can replace names on bookings. We are a chauffeur service and not a security company, so there are no armed drivers or bodyguards, and our drivers work with a client's own security team. Corporate accounts invoice monthly, and travel agents, destination management companies, hotel concierges and tourist offices can book through trade accounts. Official tourist offices, tourism boards and visitor bureaus can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account.
