Abu Dhabi airport chauffeur: what has changed at AUH
The airport that most travellers still remember as Abu Dhabi International is now Zayed International Airport. The IATA code, AUH, is the same, and the job of getting from the terminal to the city is the same job. What has changed recently is the ground-transport picture, and it is worth knowing before you land.
On 6 October 2026 the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Centre, which operates as Abu Dhabi Mobility, announced with Abu Dhabi Airports the launch of taxi services at Zayed International, with premium and standard taxis and enhanced passenger services. The fleet is 800 vehicles operated by Al Arabia Transportation Taxi Company: 500 dedicated to the airport and 300 serving the city and supporting airport operations at peak times. The announcement does not describe the pickup point, so we do not either. The source is the Abu Dhabi Mobility news item.
That is good news for anyone who just wants a taxi, and an honest part of this page. It is also why a pre-booked chauffeur remains the answer for guests who want a name, a car and a fixed fare confirmed before they leave home.
How far is Zayed International Airport from Abu Dhabi city, and how long does the drive take?

Zayed International is about 30 km (19 mi) east of the Abu Dhabi city centre and Corniche. By private car the drive takes 25 to 40 minutes outside peak hours, longer on the Sheikh Khalifa Highway and the island approaches at rush hour.
Abu Dhabi is laid out as an island city joined to the mainland by bridges, and the airport is on the mainland side near Yas Island. That gives short times to Yas and longer times to the island's western end.
| From AUH to | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Yas Island, Yas Marina Circuit | about 15 km (9 mi) | 15 to 25 minutes |
| Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque | about 30 km (19 mi) | 25 to 35 minutes |
| ADNEC and Abu Dhabi city centre | about 30 km (19 mi) | 25 to 40 minutes |
| Al Maryah Island and Corniche | about 35 km (22 mi) | 30 to 45 minutes |
| Saadiyat Island and Louvre Abu Dhabi | about 40 km (25 mi) | 35 to 50 minutes |
| Qasr Al Watan, Emirates Palace area | about 40 km (25 mi) | 35 to 50 minutes |
| Dubai Airport (DXB) | about 125 km (78 mi) | 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 40 |
| Downtown Dubai | about 130 km (81 mi) | 1 hour 25 to 1 hour 50 |
| Al Ain | about 150 km (93 mi) | 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 |
The distances are approximate road figures and the times are planning ranges. The online booker gives the exact fare for your addresses.
The Darb toll and Abu Dhabi traffic
Abu Dhabi uses a road toll system called Darb. According to the Integrated Transport Centre, it works without kiosks or barriers, and vehicles passing the tolling gates in the morning band (07:00 to 09:00) or the afternoon band (15:00 to 19:00) are charged AED 4 per transaction, as of 2026. Charges do not apply on Sundays and official holidays. The page does not list the gate locations. The official reference is the Darb fees page.
For a passenger the point is simple: the operator manages the toll, you do not stop at a gate, and the fixed fare we quote does not change. The timing point is more useful. Those two bands are also when traffic on the bridges and the Corniche approaches is slowest, so a meeting at 08:30 on the island is a better candidate for an earlier arrival transfer than one at 11:00.
Terminal, immigration and the arrivals hall
We do not quote terminal names or door numbers on this page, because they change and the airport's own site is the final word. What does not change is the sequence: you leave the aircraft, clear immigration, collect your bags, pass customs and arrive in the public arrivals hall. Your confirmation names the meeting point for your booking, and if you have the name-board option the chauffeur is inside the hall with your name or an alias of your choice.
Entry rules depend on your passport. Many nationalities are visa-free or receive a permit on arrival; others need an e-visa. The national portal is u.ae, and the tourism authority's site, Visit Abu Dhabi, has a visa information link. Confirm with the official source or your embassy before you travel.
On international arrivals the first 60 minutes after landing are free waiting, and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals. The chauffeur follows your actual flight, so an early or late landing changes nothing in the booking.
Taxi, bus, ride-hail or chauffeur: the honest comparison
Abu Dhabi's ground-transport options are improving, and for some trips a taxi is the right answer. Here is how the choices compare, based on what Abu Dhabi Mobility publishes.

| Option | How it works | What is published | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport taxi | New airport taxi service, 800 vehicles, premium and standard cars | Launched 6 October 2026 with Abu Dhabi Airports | Unplanned trips to the city, light baggage |
| Taxi booking by app | Abu Dhabi Taxi app, pickup and drop-off set on a map | Choose the vehicle in the app | Travellers who prefer an app and a known fare screen |
| Public bus and Abu Dhabi Link | Fixed routes and an on-demand bus service booked in a mobile app | Check Abu Dhabi Mobility for the current airport routes | Travellers on a very small budget with time |
| Rental car | Self-drive | Rely on your own insurance and local rules, including Darb | Visitors who know the roads |
| Private chauffeur from LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com | Meeting point stated in your confirmation | Fixed fare via the booker | Executives, families, groups, VIPs, onward trips to Dubai or Al Ain |
The lowest-cost choice is the public bus where it serves your destination, and the taxi is a straightforward option for a solo traveller going to the city. A chauffeur is the better answer if your destination is Dubai, a hotel on Saadiyat or Yas, a corporate meeting or a family with luggage. See the Abu Dhabi Mobility site for the current service list.
Business travel, ADNEC and the Grand Prix
Abu Dhabi's business calendar centres on the exhibition centre ADNEC, the Al Maryah Island financial district, and in late autumn the Formula 1 season finale at Yas Marina Circuit. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is usually held in late November or early December. Our Abu Dhabi Grand Prix page covers venue drop-off realities, road closures and hotel areas, and the conference transportation page explains how multi-day programmes work on a corporate account with monthly invoicing. In race week, evenings around Yas are the hardest slot of the year; book early and tell the desk your event, because large events may carry a different cancellation deadline, stated on the confirmation.
From the airport to Abu Dhabi's landmarks
Many guests treat the first transfer as the start of sightseeing. The most-requested stops, with sibling guides for planning:
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, about 30 km (19 mi) from the airport. Dress and access rules matter at a place of worship; see the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque guide.
- Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, about 40 km (25 mi). See the Louvre Abu Dhabi guide.
- Yas Island and Ferrari World, the closest attractions to the airport. See the Yas Island guide.
- Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace open to visitors. See the Qasr Al Watan guide.
For the capital itself, the Abu Dhabi chauffeur service page covers hourly bookings and evening transfers, and the private tours with driver page explains how a day is organised. A chauffeur drives and can suggest stops; where a site requires or recommends a licensed guide, we say so.
Abu Dhabi to Dubai and back
A very large number of Abu Dhabi arrivals continue to Dubai, and the reverse. The road is about 125 to 140 km (78 to 87 mi) depending on where you start and finish, and the usual time is 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 50. A direct car is the simplest answer for groups, for executives who want a quiet working hour in the back, and for guests who land at AUH but stay in Dubai. The Dubai International page covers the other end, and the Dubai World Central private aviation page covers FBO arrivals. Doha-bound travellers can look at the Hamad International page.

Discretion, corporate accounts and family offices
Abu Dhabi hosts government delegations, corporate headquarters and private-client travel. We offer corporate accounts with monthly invoicing, trade accounts for travel agents, DMCs and hotel concierges, and alias bookings. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company: no armed drivers and no bodyguards. We work alongside your own security team. Read about our executive chauffeur service and the corporate car service.
