Most arrival problems at Atlantis come from one misunderstanding: the resort is open to the public for dining, shopping and the casino, but the water park, the beaches, the pools and the aquariums are not. Whether you are staying, visiting for the day from Nassau, or stepping off a cruise ship, the rules differ, and the ride that suits one does not suit the others.

This guide is written for travelers searching for an atlantis paradise island private tour with driver. It sets out how the official day pass works, where day visitors check in, how the roads and the bridge behave, and which kind of day each type of visitor can reasonably plan. All hours and rules below come from the resort's own day-pass page and the Bahamas tourism and cruise-port sites, and we point you to them so that you can check the live version.

Reserve your Nassau chauffeur

Do you need a pass to visit Atlantis?

If you are not a registered Atlantis guest, yes: a day pass is required for Aquaventure, the marine habitats and the beaches. Registered guests already have access. Day visitors can walk through the casino, shops and restaurants without a pass, but meals are paid separately and passes are limited each day.

The resort's official day-pass page lists what a pass includes: unlimited access to the Aquaventure water park, the aquariums, including The Dig and the Predator Tunnel, and the beach, plus resort pools other than the Cove Pool and The Reserve at Baths Colonnade, which are for guests of those properties. A pass also covers casino entry, access to Marina Village and Crystal Court, and the right to eat at the property's restaurants, though food is paid separately. Towel and locker rental are available. The habitats are described as home to more than 65,000 marine animals.

Age bands on the same page are adults 13 and over, children 4 to 12, and under-threes free. Passes are bought in advance on the resort's website or app, and the resort says they are limited per day and generally not sold at the door. They are refundable up to four days before arrival; purchases made within three days are non-refundable. Atlantis operates cash-free on property, so bring a card. Read the live terms on the Atlantis day-booking page before you buy.

Where day visitors check in

This is the detail that decides your drop-off. Day-pass guests collect their wristbands at the Atlantis Adventures Tour Center, outside The Coral and overlooking the marina. It is open daily from 8:30 to 16:30. Bring the confirmation email, valid photo ID, the completed waiver and the credit card used for the purchase. Wristbands are issued only by resort staff on site, and passes bought through authorized partners may need proof of purchase.

Lockers are available until 18:30 at the Day Visitor Centre behind the Mayan Temple. The point for a chauffeur is that the check-in area, the lockers and the water park entrance are three different places on a large property. We confirm the drop-off point when you book and give the driver the instruction to wait at an agreed pickup point, not in a general loop.

Aquaventure and beach hours, and how they change with the month

The resort publishes seasonal hours. At the time of writing the Aquaventure hours are 10:00 to 17:00 from November to February, 10:00 to 18:00 in October, and 10:00 to 19:00 from March 9 through September. The pools, cabanas and beach run on a slightly earlier opening: 9:00 to 19:00 from April to September, 9:00 to 18:00 in March and October, and 9:00 to 17:00 from November to February.

October is a shoulder month. The water park closes at 18:00, the beach at 18:00, and the check-in desk at 16:30, so an arrival after 15:00 buys very little park time. If you are visiting in winter, plan on a shorter day: a 10:00 start leaves seven hours at most. Ask the booker for a pickup time that gets you to the check-in desk by 9:30 in the high season, so the wristband is in hand when the park opens.

From Lynden Pindling International Airport

The airport is on New Providence, the main island, and Atlantis is across the bridge on Paradise Island. Published road distances range from about 19 to 22 km (12 to 14 mi), depending on the starting point on the resort, and the drive takes 25 to 45 minutes. The range is wide for a reason: it depends on whether the last stretch is clear and whether you reach the bridge at the same time as a wave of cruise-port traffic.

The Bahamas tourism site notes that the airport has US border preclearance, which matters for planning your connection if you are flying on to the United States. Preclearance happens on departure, in Nassau, and it is a reason to allow more time at the airport on the way out. On arrival, a name-board meet-and-greet inside the arrivals hall is available as an add-on, and we monitor your flight so the driver is there when you land. Other Caribbean and Latin American gateways are in the airports directory.

From the cruise port, and the ferry alternative

Nassau's cruise port, at Prince George Wharf in the downtown, is the busiest in the country. The port's own page puts Paradise Island only a few miles away, and in practice the drive is about 3 to 5 km (2 to 3 mi) and 10 to 20 minutes, with the bridge as the pinch point on ship days. Taxis wait at the port's taxi stand in the Arrivals Plaza, and the port lists a ferry from its ferry terminal to Paradise Island at 30-minute intervals during limited morning hours, so check the current schedule on the port's page.

A cruise ship in port
A cruise ship in port

A private car earns its keep on a ship day for one reason: timing. If your ship is in port for eight hours, a day pass with a two-hour window at the property is more useful than a full-day booking. Plan for the pass check-in, lockers and a lunch ashore, and plan the return to the pier at least 90 minutes before the ship's all-aboard. Our cruise ports directory explains the approach for ship days. The port's transportation page lists taxi, ferry and parking details.

An evening visit without a pass

Not every Atlantis trip is a water-park day. The resort's public areas, the casino, Marina Village, the shops and the restaurants, are open to non-guests, and the official day-pass page notes that dining at the property's 40-plus restaurants is possible without the pass, with meals paid separately. The Nassau and Paradise Island tourism page lists the property's Aquaventure, the open-air marine habitat, more than 21 restaurants and a nightclub, which makes an evening on Paradise Island a legitimate plan on its own.

For an evening, the ride is simple: the driver collects you from a Nassau hotel, crosses the bridge, drops you at the agreed entrance, and returns at a set time. Because there is no wristband or locker to organize, the only thing to agree is where the car meets you after dinner. Give the desk a clock time and a backup, and we do the rest. Carry photo ID in any case; the day-pass check-in requires it.

The bridge, the island roads and the timing of a Nassau day

Paradise Island is connected to Nassau by a bridge across the harbor, and every road ride to Atlantis crosses it. On days when several ships are in, the cruise-port traffic and the bridge traffic arrive together. On a quiet day, the same crossing takes a few minutes. We do not publish a promised crossing time, because it varies with the ships, the school run and the weather, but we build the buffer into the pickup time so you arrive at the check-in desk before it gets busy.

Two practical habits help. First, collect the wristband before 9:30 in high season, so the queue at the desk does not eat into the park hours. Second, set the pickup time at the end of the day with a margin, because the water park closes earlier in winter and the car park, the lockers and the check-out walk all take time. Our private tours with driver page explains how the half-day and full-day bookings handle waiting time. The Nassau Paradise Island tourism site also publishes a day-pass overview with the same advice to buy early.

The honest read: if you are on a ship day with light bags and a ticket in hand, the ferry or a taxi is perfectly good. A private chauffeur is the better choice for families with strollers and a lot of luggage, for groups of four or more, for early or late arrivals, and for anyone who wants a driver to carry them on to a second stop in Nassau.

A day plan if you are staying in Nassau

Atlantis is a full day by itself, but not every traveler wants the water park. A flexible plan for a non-guest:

  1. Morning at Atlantis. Arrive at the check-in desk for 8:30, collect the wristband, and use the water park and the aquariums while the lines are short.
  2. Midday in the resort. Lockers, a meal in one of the restaurants, and a walk through Marina Village.
  3. Afternoon in Nassau. The Bahamas tourism site lists the Queen's Staircase, carved from limestone in 1794, Christ Church Cathedral, built in 1841, the Pompey Museum, and the 11-acre Retreat Gardens with about 170 rare palm species. Ardastra Gardens is known for its marching flamingos.
  4. Early evening. The Arawak Cay Fish Fry for dinner, and Potter's Cay for conch salad by day.

On the beach side, Cabbage Beach lies on Paradise Island itself, and Cable Beach and Jaws Beach are on the main island. For a resort-style alternative on a different island, see our guide to Eagle Beach in Aruba, and for a day in the Dominican Republic that depends on a boat, see Saona Island.

Check your fare to Atlantis

If you are arriving by private aircraft

Nassau is a busy gateway for private aviation. If you arrive by general aviation, the FBO side of the airport handles the formalities, and our desk coordinates the car with the handling agent. Give the desk your tail number, arrival time and the number of bags, and we plan the pickup at the aircraft. Our private aviation directory covers the FBO service, and the car side is the same fixed-fare booking.

Vehicles, discretion and the desk

Luggage decides the car. A couple with two cases fits an Executive Sedan or a First Class Sedan; a family arriving with strollers and beach bags needs a Luxury SUV, and a larger party can ask for a Sprinter. The booker shows the fixed fare before you pay. For guests who value privacy, chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and an alias can go on the name board.

Bookings run through our worldwide desk, staffed day and night, and each ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured Bahamian operator from our directory. For wider context, browse the Latin America and Caribbean directory, our private tours with driver page, and the attractions hub.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Atlantis without staying there?

Yes. You can enter the casino, shops and restaurants without a pass. To use Aquaventure, the aquariums and the beaches you need a day pass, bought in advance from the resort.

Where do day-pass guests check in?

At the Atlantis Adventures Tour Center, outside The Coral and overlooking the marina, open daily from 8:30 to 16:30. Bring the confirmation, photo ID, a completed waiver and the card used for the purchase.

What time does Aquaventure open?

The resort lists 10:00 as the opening time in every season. Closing times are 17:00 from November to February, 18:00 in October and 19:00 from March 9 through September. Confirm on the official page, because hours can change.

How far is Atlantis from the Nassau airport?

Published figures range from about 19 to 22 km (12 to 14 mi), and the drive takes 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and the bridge.

How far is it from the cruise port?

The port is in downtown Nassau, about 3 to 5 km (2 to 3 mi) from Atlantis, a drive of 10 to 20 minutes. Allow extra on ship days.

Is a day pass refundable?

The resort lists passes as refundable up to four days before arrival, and non-refundable for purchases made within three days. Check the live terms before you buy.

Do I need cash?

The resort lists itself as cash-free, so cards are used on property. Carry a card for lockers, meals and incidentals.

Can a chauffeur wait while I use the water park?

Yes. Give the desk your expected finish time when you book and the driver holds at the agreed pickup point, with the waiting window included in the quoted fare.

Can I leave luggage in the car?

Yes, with the driver, but the resort also offers lockers. We recommend leaving valuables with the driver or in a locker, not on the beach.
