Graceland is closer to the Memphis airport than most visitors expect and further from the front door than they imagine. The house itself sits behind its wall on Elvis Presley Boulevard. The visitor complex, with the ticket office, the exhibits and the gift shops, is across the road, and a shuttle links the two. Between your car and the mansion there is a parking lot, a check-in desk and a timed tour.

That sequence is the whole logistics problem, and it is why a Graceland private tour with driver is mostly a question of timing. The drive is short. What the chauffeur adds is a reliable arrival, a car that is waiting at the right moment, and, for travelers combining Graceland with other Memphis sites, a day that runs without parking stops. This guide draws on Graceland's own pages, which we cite where it matters.

How do you get to Graceland by car?

Graceland's homepage describes itself as about 10 minutes from downtown and 3 minutes from Memphis airport. Those are best-case figures. Add time for traffic on Elvis Presley Boulevard and for the lot itself on busy days, and use our ranges for planning.

Distances from the places visitors start

Our airport hub lists the terminals we serve. Tell us the airline and flight number when you book and the desk tracks the arrival, with 30 minutes of free waiting after a domestic landing or 60 minutes after an international one.

The parking lot, the address and where the car stops

According to Graceland's tips page, the GPS address is 3717 Elvis Presley Boulevard, the secured visitor lot is paid, and guests are encouraged to pay for advance parking online. The FAQ lists parking at $10 for standard vehicles and $15 for over-sized vehicles such as RVs, trailers and semi-trucks, as of 2026. The Guest House at Graceland, the on-site hotel, is a separate address at 3600 Elvis Presley Boulevard.

The pages we read do not describe a drop-off lane for limousines, rideshare or private cars. We therefore handle it the way we do at any venue without published guidance. The chauffeur approaches the visitor lot, drops you at the closest safe point to the entrance, and agrees a pickup by message. For guests who will stay several hours, we usually leave the lot and wait nearby rather than pay for a long stay.

If you are driving yourself, the lot is also where you check in. Print-at-home ticket holders are told to arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time and to check in at the location assigned to their ticket type.

Hours, tour times and when it is quiet

The homepage lists daily hours of 9 am to 4 pm with the last mansion tour starting at 4 pm. The tips page says the last tour begins at 4 pm or 5 pm depending on the day and time of year, so confirm the day you want. The official hours page is the one to trust; it lists Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day as closed with no walk-up admission and shorter hours on Christmas Eve, and it notes that Elvis's airplanes open at 10 am.

The tips page also says Graceland is typically less busy in the afternoons, especially after 2 pm. For a chauffeur that is useful, because it means a late-morning airport arrival can still be matched to a quiet afternoon. A morning slot is better only if you want to add the airplanes, which open later than the mansion and are not wheelchair accessible.

What the mansion tour involves

The mansion tour takes about an hour to an hour and a half, according to Graceland's FAQ. The longer Elvis Experience takes two and a half to three and a half hours. The mansion tour is audio guided, in English, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and French, and guests ride the shuttle from the visitor complex.

The ticket structure runs from a mansion-and-exhibits tour to several VIP levels. We do not quote ticket prices; the Graceland site shows current options, and the tips page says ticket holders can print or show tickets on a smartphone, with a fee for reprinting on site. Will Call collection needs a photo ID matching the name and credit card used. Discounts are listed for AAA members, military personnel, adults over 65 and youth aged 5 to 10, with ID required at purchase.

The arrival sequence

Because the visit has several steps, it helps to see them in order. The car reaches Elvis Presley Boulevard and turns into the visitor lot. You walk to the complex, where the ticket office and check-in are, and show your ticket or collect it at Will Call. Print-at-home guests are told to be there at least 15 minutes before the tour. The shuttle then crosses the road to the mansion. After the tour, you leave through the grounds and return to the complex by shuttle, where the exhibits, the gift shops and the dining options wait.

We therefore time the drop for about 25 to 30 minutes before the tour start, which covers the walk, check-in and a margin. If your party includes small children or someone with limited mobility, ask for 40 minutes. The chauffeur keeps the car close to the lot but off the busiest approach and collects you by message.

Rules that affect what you carry

Still photography is allowed, but flash is not permitted inside the mansion and attractions, and tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed on tours. Audio and video recording equipment cannot be carried on the grounds, in museums, attractions, gift shops or on tour shuttles, and phone and camera video mode is prohibited inside.

Strollers must be folded on the shuttle and are not allowed inside the mansion. They can be collected at the carport after the tour, and Graceland does not lend strollers. Leave large bags and luggage with your chauffeur.

Dates for the next few months

Graceland lists Holiday Lighting Weekend from November 19 to 21, and Christmas tours from November 19 to January 8. Its calendar also lists concerts, including Buddy Guy on October 29 and Lyle Lovett on November 14. Elvis Week, which Graceland describes on its site, is usually held in August; check the official dates for 2027.

The Memphis Travel site, the official destination marketing organization for the city and county, lists other events this autumn, including a Holiday Lighting Weekend at Graceland and festivals in November. On busy weekends, hotels and roads fill up together, so we recommend booking the car when you book the tour.

Season matters too. Memphis summers are hot and humid, and the walk between the lot, the complex and the shuttle stops is mostly outdoors, so early autumn and spring are more comfortable. In heat, the afternoon tip works in your favor only if you plan shade and water breaks; the pages we read say nothing about waiting areas, so bring a hat and a refillable bottle.

The Tupelo day trip

Graceland operates its own Tupelo excursion on Fridays: a bus leaves The Guest House at 8:30 am and returns by 4:30 pm, covering Elvis's birthplace and related sites. It is an efficient way to see Tupelo if the date suits you.

By private car, the logic changes. Tupelo is about 160 km (100 miles) from Memphis, and a chauffeur lets you choose a day other than Friday, add Graceland before or after, and travel in a small group without a fixed departure time. Allow a full day and confirm what is open in Tupelo before you go.

Graceland plus Sun Studio and Beale Street

This plan suits a traveler arriving in the morning with the afternoon free for Graceland.

1. Airport pickup at Memphis International, with flight tracking.
2. Late morning at Sun Studio and Beale Street, both of which Memphis Travel features, about 12 to 14 km (8 to 9 miles) from Graceland.
3. Lunch downtown, then the drive south on Elvis Presley Boulevard.
4. Graceland from about 1:30 pm, matched to a quieter period after 2 pm.
5. Evening back at the hotel or on Beale Street.

The National Civil Rights Museum is described by Memphis Travel as having reopened its Legacy Experience; it deserves its own morning rather than a rushed hour. Wheelchairs, strollers and the mansion shuttle

Graceland's FAQ says all rooms toured in the mansion are wheelchair accessible except two basement rooms, with an alternate route for guests who cannot walk. All of Elvis Presley's Memphis is wheelchair accessible. The airplanes are not, and a video of them is shown in the gift shop. Graceland does not provide wheelchairs for general use, though it lists two local rental companies on its tips page. The shuttle has a lift for wheelchair and scooter users, and scooter users must transfer to a seat.

Taxi, rental or chauffeur: what each costs you in time

If Graceland is your only stop and you are staying at the on-site hotel, you may not need a car at all, and we say so. A chauffeur is worth it when Graceland is one of several stops or when you arrive late.

Keep a margin for the end of the visit as well as the start. The shuttle ride back, the exhibits and the gift shops can stretch the time at the complex, and the length of the visit depends on the ticket you chose. Tell the desk your ticket type at booking, send a message when you board the shuttle back, and the driver can be at the agreed point as you walk out. For guests with young children, a simple plan is to finish the mansion first and leave the shops for last.

Respect for a place of memory

Graceland is both a visitor attraction and a place where Elvis Presley is buried, and many guests come to pay respects. Keep voices low in the memorial areas and follow the staff's directions.
