Keukenhof opens for roughly eight weeks a year. For 2027 the dates published on its official website run from Thursday 18 March to Sunday 9 May, with the gates open from 8:00 in the morning until 19:00 and last entry at 18:15. Everything about a Keukenhof private tour with driver follows from that narrow window: a short season, tickets for a booked time, and roads that fill with cars, coaches and bicycles on every fine spring day. If you are thinking about how to get to Keukenhof by car, the main advice is to plan the day around the traffic and not around the flowers.
It is October now, so this is a planning guide for spring 2027. If you are visiting the Netherlands earlier, the sibling guides to Kinderdijk and the Zaanse Schans work in autumn and winter, when Keukenhof is closed.
How do you get to Keukenhof by car?
Keukenhof is at Stationsweg 166a in Lisse, about 25 km (15 miles) and 25 to 35 minutes from Schiphol, and about 40 km (25 miles) and 45 to 70 minutes from central Amsterdam. Your chauffeur drives to car park P1 or P2, and you enter on your timed ticket.
The park's own directions send traffic from Amsterdam along the A4 and N207 to P1, and traffic from Rotterdam along the A4, N208 and N206 to P2. A professional driver follows the attendants' signals at the entrance to the lots, and the choice of lot on the day is theirs.
The 2027 season, and what the dates really mean
The published season is 18 March to 9 May 2027. Within that, the flowers do not keep a fixed schedule. Keukenhof's own guidance explains that bloom timing depends on the weather: crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and early tulips come first, and later tulips follow. The park publishes a bloom report during the season, and it is worth reading it a few days before you travel.

Practically, visitors who care most about the tulips usually aim for the middle of the season, from early to mid April, while those who want fewer people choose the first or last week and accept a different mix of flowers. The first weekend of the season and the last weekends are not necessarily empty. They simply have a different character.
A Keukenhof visit is a poor choice for any date outside the season, because the park is closed. In that case, think about the Amsterdam museum quarter instead, starting with the Rijksmuseum.
The Flower Parade and the Bollenstreek roads
Keukenhof sits in the Bollenstreek, the bulb-growing district between Haarlem and Leiden. In spring it is one of the busiest road areas in the Netherlands. The park says to be prepared for heavy traffic around it, and to check current conditions before leaving.
The one date that really changes the plan is the Flower Parade, scheduled for 17 April 2027. On that day the park advises arriving before 12:00, because roads in the Bollenstreek close for the parade route after noon and reopen at 5 pm. If you are in the area on that day and have not planned for it, you can be stuck outside the district for hours. Our advice for the parade weekend is to arrive when the gates open and leave before midday, or to book the afternoon for another destination altogether.
Tell the desk the date when you book. The booker shows the exact fare, and a dispatcher can check whether the route needs adjusting for road closures.
P1, P2 and the parking ticket
Keukenhof has two main car parks, and its parking ticket is separate from the admission ticket. According to the park's frequently asked questions for 2026, the parking ticket costs 10 euros online and 15 euros at the lot, and the lot closes at 19:00. Tour buses park free in P1, bicycles and scooters park free, and a limited number of electric vehicle charging points are at P1. Accessible spaces are near the entrances, and you should tell the attendants if you need one.
For a chauffeured day, here is how this plays out:
- The parking ticket is separate from admission. Ask the desk at booking how the lot fee is handled for your trip.
- The car can stay in the lot for your visit, or the driver can leave and return if that has been agreed. Your pickup is arranged by message.
- Because the lot shuts at 19:00, plan the departure for around closing time at the latest. The park itself stays open until 19:00 and entry ends at 18:15, so an evening collection is not a good idea.
The park does not describe a taxi drop-off point. So we do not promise one. If your party includes anyone who finds long walks difficult, ask the desk to confirm the nearest approach on the day and mention it at the entrance. The park offers wheelchairs that can be reserved through its online shop, but it does not rent electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters, so bring your own if you use one.
Timed tickets, and what happens if you are late
Keukenhof tickets are valid only for the time slot you book. The park says an online ticket does not allow early or late entry, and that if you miss your slot you may need to wait if the park is busy. Tickets can be rescheduled online up to 24 hours before your visit if the new slot is available. They cannot be cancelled, but they are not personalised, so you can pass one on to another person. Prices for 2027 are listed in the official ticket shop.

Our transfer is timed to arrive 30 minutes before the slot, which absorbs the car park queue. If a flight is delayed, the chauffeur tracks it and you do not pay for waiting within the free allowance; the park, however, will not change your slot because of an aircraft. Be realistic: a morning flight arrival followed by a 2 pm slot works, but a landing at 1 pm and a 2:30 pm slot does not.
Distances from the places people start
- Amsterdam Schiphol: about 25 km (15 miles), 25 to 35 minutes.
- Central Amsterdam: about 40 km (25 miles), 45 to 70 minutes. See the Amsterdam chauffeur service page for the city.
- The Hague: about 35 km (22 miles), 35 to 50 minutes.
- Rotterdam: about 55 km (34 miles), 50 to 70 minutes.
- Leiden: about 15 km (9 miles), 20 to 30 minutes.
These times are for normal traffic. On an April weekend, add 30 minutes without hesitation. The best strategy is simply to be on the road before 8 am.
When to arrive and how long to stay
The park says visitors spend an average of three hours inside, and that it is less crowded before 10:30 in the morning or after 4 pm. With gates opening at 8:00, a first-slot arrival gives you the paths and the pavilions at their quietest. Leaving around 11 am leaves the afternoon free for the next stop.
A sample day:
- Pickup in Amsterdam at 6:45 am.
- Arrival at P1 around 7:45 am, in time for an 8:00 slot.
- Three hours in the park, including the pavilions and a coffee.
- Departure at 11:15 am. Lunch in Leiden or Haarlem, both on the way back.
- Afternoon in the city, or a return directly to the hotel.
For an afternoon visit, take the opposite approach: arrive for a 3:30 pm slot, stay until closing, and let the evening light do the work. The car should leave the lot by 7 pm, as the lot closes then.
Clothing, paths and the practical side of a spring morning
Dutch spring weather changes within the hour. April mornings can be cold and bright, and an afternoon can bring a shower, so a coat that packs small is better than a heavy one. The park is mostly gardens and paths, with indoor pavilions that hold flower shows, and the paths can be wet after rain; flat shoes are sensible for everyone, and heels are best left at the hotel. Lockers inside take smaller items, and the park provides a free place at Entrance P1 for large pieces of luggage, which helps if you are travelling on afterwards.

Food and drink may be brought in, but the park does not allow you to consume your own in its restaurants or on its patios. For families, a stop at the start of the visit for coffee or a snack saves time later.
Plan the car for comfort too. Spring in the Bollenstreek can mean slow-moving convoys of coaches on the narrower roads, and a vehicle with space to stretch out helps on a long day. For two or three passengers a First Class Sedan is comfortable. A group of four to six does better in a Luxury SUV, and larger parties can choose an Executive Sprinter. The exact model is confirmed at booking.
The fields outside the park
The surrounding bulb fields belong to growers, and the park is clear that walking through them is not allowed. You can photograph them from the road, though stopping on narrow country roads is unsafe, and an experienced driver will find a legal place. Another way to see them is the electric boat (the Fluisterboot), which passes the fields and boards beside the windmill inside the park; tickets are sold at the windmill office or online.
If you want to see the fields from a bicycle, rent one at the bike rental point at P1. The park does not allow cycling inside, but the surrounding area is encouraged for riding. A chauffeur is not a good fit for this activity, and a slow cycle through the fields is often best done on a separate day.
Ways to get to Keukenhof compared
| Option | Time from Amsterdam | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public transport with combined ticket | 1 to 1.5 hours | Lowest | Solo travellers, light bags |
| Rental car | 45 to 70 min | Variable | Independent drivers |
| Metered taxi | 45 to 70 min | Metered, high for the distance | Short hops only |
| Tour coach | 1 to 1.5 hours | Per seat | Visitors who want a guide |
| Private chauffeur | 45 to 70 min | Fixed fare via the booker | Groups, luggage, tight schedules |
The park's ticket shop lists a combined ticket that includes public transport; for one or two people with light bags, that is the lowest-cost route if the timing suits. A chauffeur becomes the better choice with children, older relatives, a group of four or more, or an onward flight. Check the park's website for the current transport offer, since we do not describe schedules we have not confirmed.
Combining Keukenhof with other places
From the park you can head in any direction. Back towards Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum fit an afternoon, provided you book the tickets with start times. South to Kinderdijk, a World Heritage windmill site, is roughly 70 km (43 miles) and about an hour by road, which turns the day into a long loop through South Holland. North to the Zaanse Schans is about 55 km (34 miles), about an hour. Full information about these options is on the private tours with a driver page and the Europe directory.
If you have luggage and are flying out the same evening, large pieces can be left free at the luggage drop-off at Entrance P1, and smaller items fit in lockers. Dogs are allowed on a leash, one per visitor.
