Xcaret is less a park than a day-long production, with its own schedule, its own ticket categories and an evening show that ends close to the hour most visitors would prefer to be in bed. That makes the transport question unusually concrete. You are not just going somewhere; you are going to something that begins at 8:30 in the morning and ends after 10 at night, and you will be tired at both ends.

A Xcaret Park private tour with driver is therefore best understood as a timetable. It decides when you arrive, when you are collected, and who is responsible for the return drive when the show finishes and the car parks empty at once.

Xcaret by car: distance from Cancun, Playa and Tulum

Xcaret is on the Carretera Chetumal–Puerto Juárez at km 282, near Playa del Carmen. It lies about 74 km (45 miles) south of Cancun International Airport, roughly one hour; 6 km (4 miles) or 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen; and 57 km (35 miles) or 45 minutes from Tulum.

Those figures are the ones the park publishes on its own getting-there page, which also describes the entrance and the transport options. The practical meaning is that Xcaret is the nearest large attraction to Playa del Carmen, with Cancun's airport about an hour behind you and Tulum about 45 minutes ahead. For Cancun hotel-zone pickups, see our Cancun chauffeur service page.

The route from Cancun is Highway 307, the main coastal road. A driver who starts early lets you reach the gate shortly after it opens, before the day's crowd builds.

Day or night: which Xcaret do you want?

The park sells several ticket types, and which one you buy decides how the car is used. The official site lists the following options:

Vibrant buses parked at Xcaret Park, Playa del Carmen, surrounded by lush greenery

  • Xcaret admission, the standard daytime ticket with activities.
  • Xcaret Plus, which adds a buffet lunch to admission.
  • Xcaret at Night, which includes the evening Mexican show.
  • Tickets for the sister parks Xel-Há, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xoxi and Xenses, which are separate products and not covered here.

Children aged 0 to 4 enter free on park and tour tickets, according to the site, and the park advertises an early-purchase online discount of up to 15 per cent. We do not quote ticket prices, since they vary by date and package; the park's own site is the reference. Our fare is quoted separately, in the online booker, for your exact pickup, vehicle and timing.

The park's published hours are 8:30 am to 10:30 pm daily, listed in Eastern time, which is the Quintana Roo zone. If you are arriving from elsewhere in Mexico, remember that Yucatan state is an hour behind.

Timing the day: three ways to use the car

Morning start. Be at the gate shortly after 8:30. The first hour is usually the calmest, and the heat is more manageable. Pickup from a Playa del Carmen hotel needs about 15 to 30 minutes of driving; from the Cancun hotel zone allow about an hour.

Afternoon start for the night show. If you only want the evening programme, arrive in the afternoon with a Xcaret at Night ticket. This avoids the midday sun and shortens the day to a tolerable length, especially with children.

All-day visit. Arrive at opening and stay for the show. The driver can leave and return, or you can arrange a late pickup at the end of the performance. Late pickups carry the same fixed-fare booking as day ones; tell the desk the show's approximate end time and agree a flexible window.

The evening exit is the crux. Many guests leave at the same time, and finding a ride on the spot can take a while. A pre-booked chauffeur, waiting at an agreed point, removes that wait.

Parking, drop-off and the park's own transport

The official getting-there page says the park provides free parking and that drivers should follow the route map for their location. For a private car, the more useful point is the drop-off: the chauffeur brings you to the entrance area, you step out at the gate, and the car leaves or parks according to your plan.

The same page describes other ways to reach the park:

  • Round-trip transport as an add-on at the time of ticket purchase, operated by the park's group, with pickup from a hotel or a chosen meeting point.
  • Local buses that stop at a special roadside entrance, from which a free folkloric bus runs to the park entrance every half hour.
  • Intercity buses from the Cancun bus station and the Playa del Carmen main station.
  • Taxis from Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The park's add-on transport is the obvious competitor to a private car, and it suits solo travelers who want simplicity. The private chauffeur adds flexibility: you choose the time, you can stop at a shop on the way, and you share the vehicle only with your group.

If you are staying in Playa del Carmen, the lowest-cost option is public transport, and the park's own transfer is competitive. The private car pays off from Cancun, from the airport, from Tulum and for any evening return.

From the airport, from Cancun and from the cruise ships

A traveler landing at Cancun International can be at Xcaret in about an hour, so an arrival in the morning is workable if you accept a tired first day. Our Cancun airport page explains the meeting process and the waiting time after an international landing. Cruise guests landing at Cozumel usually cross to Playa del Carmen by ferry and then drive about 15 minutes; allow the ferry timetable and your ship's all-aboard time before you commit to the night show.

Groups are straightforward to move. Ask the desk for an Executive Sprinter or several Luxury SUVs, and larger parties can request a mini-coach; every vehicle is covered by the same booking.

Practical points: what to bring and what to leave

The official page lists lockers, showers, snorkeling equipment, stores and restaurants, so you do not need to carry much. Water gear, a towel, a change of clothes and a light layer for the evening cover most needs. The park's rules on sunscreen, insect repellent and other products are designed to protect its water, and its FAQ is the place to check them before you pack. Leave valuables at the hotel, and use the lockers for phones.

Accessibility is a question for the park's customer service, which operates from 7 am to 10 pm local time. If anyone in your party uses a wheelchair or has limited mobility, tell the desk at booking so the drop-off point can be arranged with that in mind.

A day built around Xcaret and its neighbours

  1. 8:00 am. Pickup in Playa del Carmen; the car reaches Xcaret in about 15 minutes.
  2. 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Time in the park. Lunch inside, if you bought the Plus ticket.
  3. 5:00 pm. Return to the hotel for a rest, or stay for the evening.
  4. 7:00 pm. Dinner on Playa del Carmen's Fifth Avenue before you return for the night show, if you split the day.

Xcaret deserves a whole day, so we do not recommend adding Tulum or Chichen Itza to the same date. A better sequence is Xcaret one day, Tulum and Dos Ojos Cenote the next, with Chichen Itza on a third morning.

Reserve your chauffeur

Booking order: what to reserve first

Xcaret rewards doing things in a fixed order, because each piece depends on the one before it.

  1. Choose the ticket type and date. Day, Plus or night determines when you need the car. Buying online ahead of time is advertised by the park as a saving on the gate price, and it avoids the ticket queue.
  2. Reserve the transfer. Tell the desk your hotel or airport, the ticket you hold and the time you want to be at the gate. For a night show, add the expected end time.
  3. Book dinner or lunch outside the park only if you need it. Xcaret Plus includes a buffet lunch, so a restaurant reservation on the same day is usually unnecessary.
  4. Keep the afternoon flexible. The park is large, and the best moments are often unplanned. A driver who can wait or collect at short notice is more useful than one booked to the minute.

Travelling with children and older relatives

The park's free entry for children from birth to age four makes it practical for families with infants, but a long day in the sun is tiring at any age. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested at booking for the transfer, which matters on a road where the journey can take an hour. Plan an early start for the youngest travelers and a rest at the hotel between a morning visit and an evening show. Older relatives usually prefer the afternoon-and-evening combination, since the walking is spread over cooler hours. Ask the park's customer service about mobility support in advance, and tell the desk so the chauffeur can set you down as close to the entrance as the rules permit.

Weather, seasons and the hurricane months

Quintana Roo's wet season runs through the summer and early autumn, with the Atlantic hurricane season peaking from late summer into October. A heavy storm can close outdoor attractions, and road conditions on Highway 307 deteriorate quickly in heavy rain. If a named storm is forecast, follow the park's notices and your hotel's advice, and ask the desk to adjust or move your booking. The drier months, roughly from winter to spring, are the most comfortable and the busiest.

Other parks on the same road

Xcaret's sister park Xel-Há lies along the same coastal highway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and the park group sells Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xoxi and Xenses as well. Each is a full-day product with its own ticket. Our advice is to treat them as separate days. A driver can take you to any of them from the same base, and the desk can quote a multi-day booking in one request.

Booking with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com

We take the booking at our 24/7 desk and hand it to a vetted, licensed, commercially insured local operator in Quintana Roo. One confirmation and one invoice cover the day, and a chauffeur meets you at arrivals if you land in Cancun. Vehicles are late-model and fully maintained; we confirm the exact model at booking. A Luxury SUV carries up to six with bags, and an Executive Sprinter takes 12 to 14. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested.

Concierges, travel agents and tourist offices can book for guests through a trade account. For wider planning, see our guide to private tours with driver, the Latin America and Caribbean directory and the attractions hub.

How far is Xcaret from Playa del Carmen?

About 6 km (4 miles), roughly 15 minutes. From Tulum it is about 57 km (35 miles) and 45 minutes.

What are Xcaret's opening hours?

The park lists daily hours from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm, in Quintana Roo time. Customer service runs from 7 am to 10 pm.

Is there parking at Xcaret?

Yes. The park says it provides free parking. A private drop-off at the entrance avoids the car park altogether.

Is Xcaret better by day or by night?

The daytime ticket gives the full park; Xcaret at Night includes the Mexican show. Families with young children often prefer the afternoon-and-evening combination.

Do children get free entry?

Children aged 0 to 4 enter free on park and tour tickets, according to the park's site.

Can a chauffeur pick me up after the night show?

Yes. Give the desk the expected end time and agree a flexible window. The driver waits at an agreed point away from the taxi queue.

Is Xcaret worth a private driver?

From Cancun or the airport, and for late returns, yes. From Playa del Carmen the park's transfer or a taxi is a reasonable alternative.

Can I combine Xcaret with Tulum on the same day?

Technically yes, since Tulum is 45 minutes away. In practice Xcaret fills a day, so most visitors visit them on separate days.
