How does a Hong Kong airport limousine pickup work now that Terminal 2 has opened?
Terminal 2 departures opened on 27 May 2026, but arriving passengers still use Terminal 1, where the prebooked pick-up zone and limousine facilities remain. Your chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you according to the confirmation. Central Hong Kong is about 35 km (22 miles) away.
Hong Kong International Airport sits on reclaimed land at Chek Lap Kok, off the north coast of Lantau Island, and every road into town crosses water. That is useful to know, because it shapes the whole transfer: a handful of bridges and tunnels carry the traffic, and a single incident on one of them can lengthen a journey that is usually short.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books Hong Kong airport limousine transfers through its 24/7 desk. Each ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur operator from our worldwide directory, and is booked, confirmed and invoiced by our desk: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one contact at any hour.
Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the people mover: what changed in 2026
The airport spent years building a new Terminal 2 and went live in stages. The Hong Kong government's transport notice for 25 May 2026 confirms that the new T2 departure facilities began on 27 May, that Sky Plaza Road serves the T2 drop-off area, and that Platforms 3 and 4 at Airport Station, which connect to T2, started service. Reports from the same period say passengers check in, drop bags, clear security and immigration at T2, then ride the Automated People Mover to boarding gates in Terminal 1.

For an arriving passenger the practical consequence is that nothing moved. The same notice states that the taxi stand outside the Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall and the Prebooked Taxi Pick-up Zone adjacent to Car Park 1 remain unchanged. Industry reporting says T2 arrivals are expected to open later and give no firm date, so treat Terminal 1 as your arrival point and check your airline's notice if you are flying in during a transition period.
Departures are another story. If you are flying out, your chauffeur needs to know which terminal your airline has moved to, because several airlines shifted check-in in batches through early June. Tell us your airline and flight when you book and we will confirm the correct drop-off, rather than assume it from last year's habits.
Where the chauffeur meets you at Terminal 1
The airport's passenger guide describes commercial services counters at Arrivals Hall A, Arrivals Hall B and a Limousine Lounge in Terminal 1, in the non-restricted area, and says the limousine waiting area is reached by the channel near Arrivals Hall B and a lift to Level 3. That is the facility traditional hotel cars and limousines use.
Our process is built around your confirmation rather than around a lounge. Your driver is assigned to your flight, watches the actual landing time, and sends the meeting arrangement with your booking. If you add the name-board meet-and-greet, a representative holds your name or an alias on a board inside arrivals and walks you and your bags to the car. See our meet-and-greet service page for the option.
If you are arriving with a party that includes children, elderly relatives or a lot of luggage, say so in the booking. Hong Kong arrival halls can be busy at peak banks of long-haul flights, and a greeter with a luggage trolley is worth having.
What a Hong Kong airport limousine costs in time: drive times and distances
Hong Kong is compact, but the airport is far from the city centre by Asian standards. The MTR describes the Airport Express route as 35.3 km between the airport and the city, taking as little as 24 minutes. Road distances are in the same range.
| Destination | Approx. distance | Typical drive time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon hotels | about 33 km (20 mi) | 35 to 45 minutes | Via West Kowloon and Tsing Ma corridor |
| Central and Admiralty | about 35 km (22 mi) | 35 to 50 minutes | Cross-Harbour tunnel choices vary by hour |
| Wan Chai and Causeway Bay | about 37 to 39 km (23 to 24 mi) | 40 to 55 minutes | Heavier traffic on the Island side |
| Kai Tak and Kowloon East | about 30 km (19 mi) | 35 to 50 minutes | Event days add queues |
| Stanley and Repulse Bay | about 45 to 50 km (28 to 31 mi) | 55 to 75 minutes | South Island roads, slower |
| Hong Kong Disneyland | about 15 km (9 mi) | 20 to 30 minutes | On Lantau, close to the airport |
| Macao Cotai Strip | about 55 to 60 km (34 to 37 mi) | 70 to 100 minutes with border | Via the HZMB, permits and queues apply |
The shorter end of each range is a quiet-hour figure. Weekday peaks through the Western Harbour and Cross-Harbour tunnels extend journeys, and typhoon warnings can change the picture completely, as the Hong Kong Observatory's higher signals suspend a great deal of public transport.
Airport Express, taxi, bus or a private car: the honest comparison
The Airport Express is the best fast, cheap option in Hong Kong, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. If you are traveling light and your hotel is within a short walk of Hong Kong or Kowloon station, take it.

| Option | Typical time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport Express | About 24 minutes to Hong Kong Station | Moderate, fixed tickets | Light luggage, hotels near Central or Kowloon stations |
| Airport bus (A routes) | Varies by route and stops | Low | Budget travelers with flexible schedules |
| Urban taxi (red) | 35 to 50 minutes | Metered, plus tolls | Quick pickup without pre-booking |
| Prebooked taxi or hotel car | 35 to 50 minutes | Quoted by provider | Single travelers |
| Private chauffeur | 35 to 50 minutes | Fixed fare via the booker | Groups, luggage, late arrivals, cross-boundary trips |
The Hong Kong Transport Department notes that urban taxis are red, New Territories taxis are green and Lantau taxis are blue, and that each type serves its own area. A red taxi can take you almost anywhere on the Hong Kong side. A Lantau taxi is limited to Lantau, Chek Lap Kok and the port interchange. This is why a hotel on the south side of Hong Kong Island is often a better booking for a car, which does not care about the colour code.
The Airport Express also hands off to in-town options. If your hotel is beyond Hong Kong or Kowloon station, you finish with a taxi anyway, and the savings shrink.
Cross-boundary to Macao and Shenzhen from Hong Kong airport
Hong Kong sits in a cluster of cities with border formalities between them, and the airport has unusual connections to the Pearl River Delta. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge's Hong Kong Port is on an island by the airport, operates 24 hours, and, according to the Transport Department, lies about 42 km of bridge and expressway from the Zhuhai and Macao ports.
Shuttle buses run between the ports around the clock, the airport has its own SkyPier transfer coaches for ticketed passengers, and private cars can cross, but cross-boundary vehicles need a Closed Road Permit and the Hong Kong Link Road drives on the right, unlike the rest of Hong Kong. That is exactly the sort of detail that makes a cross-border chauffeur trip a specialist booking. Tell us the passengers' nationalities and documents when you book so the operator can confirm what is possible, and let the desk confirm availability.
For many visitors the destination is the Cotai Strip, which we cover in the Cotai Strip guide. Plan on 70 to 100 minutes including border queues, and treat the border formalities as the variable.
Hong Kong airport arrivals: immigration, baggage and what to expect
On landing you move through immigration, baggage claim and customs, then into the arrivals halls. The airport is large, so the walk from the gate to immigration can be long, and the people mover and corridors are part of the process.
We do not publish a clearance time, because it depends on the number of widebody flights landing at once. What we offer is the 60-minute free wait after an international landing, which covers ordinary queues. If a long queue is eating into it, ask the greeter or the desk and nothing happens to your booking.
Check Hong Kong's current entry rules for your passport before you fly. They differ by nationality, and the immigration department's website is the authority. For travelers heading on to the Chinese Mainland, mainland entry requirements are separate and should be checked with the relevant mainland authority before departure.
Vehicles for Hong Kong: sedans, MPVs and Sprinters
Hong Kong roads are tight and parking is scarce, which favors vehicles that are right-sized to the party. For one or two passengers, a First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar) seats up to three with two large and two cabin bags. For executives who want more room, a Luxury SUV seats up to six with five to six large bags. For a delegation, an Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) seats up to 12 to 14 passengers and 12 bags. In Asia we describe sedans by Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class and mini-MPVs by V-Class where available.

Maybach, Rolls-Royce and Bentley are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. The exact model is confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request, and most vehicles carry water and phone chargers. See the fleet page for all classes.
Discretion matters to many of our Hong Kong passengers. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and alias bookings are standard. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company, and we work alongside your own security team.
Business arrivals: AsiaWorld-Expo, trade fairs and conferences
AsiaWorld-Expo, one of Hong Kong's exhibition venues, is on the airport island and is served by its own stop on the Airport Express line. Visitors to trade fairs and conferences often need a chauffeur for the other half of the trip: hotel to fairground, or between meetings in Central and Kowloon East.
Our conference transportation and conferences pages describe how we handle delegations, and for repeat business travelers a corporate account with monthly invoicing is available. Travel agents, DMCs, hotel concierges and tourist offices can ask about trade accounts. Official tourist offices, tourism boards and visitor centres can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account, and the tourist offices of Asia Pacific page gives the regional overview.
Connecting through Asia: Hong Kong beside Singapore and Seoul
Travelers who route through Hong Kong often compare it with other hubs. Singapore Changi is the closest equivalent for transfer logic, and Seoul Incheon is the better comparison for a long drive into the capital. The Hong Kong chauffeur service page covers day hire and city transfers, the airports page lists every airport we cover, and the Asia Pacific directory lists our regional pages.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Hong Kong International Airport from Central?
About 35 km (22 miles). The MTR gives 35.3 km for the airport to city rail corridor, and the road route is similar. A car normally takes 35 to 50 minutes, and the Airport Express can do the rail journey in as little as 24 minutes.
Which terminal do arriving passengers use at Hong Kong airport?
Arrivals use Terminal 1. Terminal 2 departure facilities opened on 27 May 2026, and arrival operations at T2 were not yet open in reports we found. Check with your airline close to departure, since terminal arrangements can change.
Where do pre-booked cars wait at Hong Kong airport?
The government notice confirms that the Prebooked Taxi Pick-up Zone beside Car Park 1 is unchanged, and the airport describes a Limousine Lounge in Terminal 1. Our chauffeur meets you per your confirmation, and a name-board greeter can meet you in arrivals.
Is a private car better than the Airport Express?
Not for everyone. The Airport Express is faster to Central and Kowloon and has a lower cost. A car is better for several bags, groups, children, hotels far from stations, late-night arrivals and trips beyond the urban area.
Can you drive me from Hong Kong airport to Macao?
Yes, as a specialist booking. The bridge route is about 42 km between the ports, and cross-boundary vehicles need a Closed Road Permit. Allow 70 to 100 minutes with border queues. Tell us everyone's nationality and travel documents when you book.
How long is the free wait time after landing?
For international arrivals, 60 minutes free waiting after landing. Other pickups carry 15 minutes. Flight tracking adjusts the pickup if your plane is early or late.
Do typhoons affect airport transfers in Hong Kong?
They can. Severe typhoon signals suspend public transport and may delay flights. If a warning is issued, contact the desk and we will re-time or reassess your pickup, subject to the operator's safety judgment.
What does the cancellation policy look like?
More than 72 hours' notice carries no charge. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time.
