Where does a chauffeur car go at Tokyo Skytree?

There are two paid car parks on site, a multi-story one on the west side and an underground one on the east, open 7:30 to 23:00. Both have vehicle size limits that exclude many large SUVs and vans, so the chauffeur will usually drop you at the tower and park elsewhere.

Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan at 634 meters, and the observation decks sit high above Oshiage, a district on the eastern side of Sumida ward. It is a long way from the glass towers of Marunouchi and a short hop from Asakusa, which makes it a natural second stop after the temple. Whether you book a Tokyo Skytree private tour with driver for the morning or the night view, the logistics are the same: know where the car goes, know the size limits, and know when the roads clog.

The tower's own access pages give more precise guidance than most visitor guides, and this article is built on them. If you are putting together a wider day in the capital, the desk can combine Skytree with other stops through our Tokyo chauffeur service.

The tower in numbers and what you are buying

The tower stands at 1-1-2 Oshiage, Sumida-ku, Tokyo 131-0045. According to the official English site, the observation levels are:

Colorful carp streamers decorate the Tokyo Skytree, symbolizing Japanese cultural celebration

  • Tembo Galleria: floors 445 and 450, at 450 meters.
  • Tembo Deck: floor 350, at 350 meters.
  • Tembo Deck: floors 345 and 340. The official floor guide places Sky Restaurant 634 and a shop on 345, and a glass floor and café on 340.

The main ticket office is on the fourth floor. The site sells several ticket types: observation deck basic admission, special event tickets, an Enjoy Pack that bundles the deck with other attractions, a Morning View ticket, a night view ticket and group reservations for parties of 15 or more. Prices are not listed on the home page, and the site recommends buying online, so use the official Skytree site to see today's rates and to check its crowd forecast page.

The site shows the operating hours as 9:00 to 22:00, with last entry at 21:00, on the day we checked; treat that as a snapshot and confirm on the day. A forecast of expected crowds is published by the tower itself, and it is the best tool for choosing between a Saturday afternoon and a Tuesday morning.

Running from the airports and the city

The tower's access page lists car journey times from several starting points, and they make a useful baseline. From central Tokyo, around Shinjuku and Shibuya, expect about 25 to 35 minutes. From Yokohama, 40 to 50 minutes. From Omiya in Saitama, 40 to 50 minutes. From Funabashi or Ichikawa in Chiba, 30 to 40 minutes.

For airports, the figures we use are approximate:

  • Haneda (HND): about 25 km (15 miles), usually 40 to 70 minutes depending on the route and hour. See the Haneda chauffeur service page for terminals and the meeting point.
  • Narita (NRT): about 60 km (37 miles), typically 60 to 90 minutes. Oshiage lies on the eastern side of the city, so it is a reasonable first stop on a daytime arrival if you are staying in the east.

International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, and every airport pickup includes flight tracking. If your flight is early, the car can wait; if it is late, the booking does not lapse.

Weekend and holiday traffic: the tower's own warning

The Skytree car page contains a sentence that every chauffeur here takes seriously: the roads around Tokyo Skytree Town are expected to be extremely congested on weekends and public holidays, and the tower recommends public transport over driving. That is a rare thing for an attraction to say about itself, and it should shape your plan.

What it means in practice:

  1. On a weekday, a car is predictable. On a Saturday, add margin on the way in and on the way out.
  2. Late afternoon on a weekend is the worst window, as the shopping complex beside the tower draws as many people as the observation decks.
  3. Evening departures are slowest when visitors leave the deck after sunset at the same time. If you can, time your visit so you leave before the rush or wait in the complex for 20 minutes.
  4. If you must be on a Saturday, schedule the visit for the morning, when the tower is open and the shopping area is not yet crowded.

The practical advice is straightforward: on a weekday, a chauffeur is quicker than a transfer by train; on a Saturday afternoon, the train from Asakusa is only one stop or a walk of about 1.5 km (1 mile), and may be the quicker way home. We will tell you if the car is not the better option for a given leg.

The car park limits that matter

Both on-site car parks are paid and operate from 7:30 to 23:00, with entry allowed until 22:00. The rate listed on the official page as of 2026 is 450 yen per 30 minutes at regular rates. The official limits are:

A black executive sedan
A black executive sedan
  • Length: 5.0 meters or less.
  • Width: 1.9 meters or less.
  • Height: 2.1 meters or less.
  • Ground clearance: more than 15 centimeters.
  • Gross vehicle weight: 2.3 tonnes or less.

Vehicles that do not meet the limits are directed to a nearby paid lot. Large SUVs, vans and Sprinters frequently exceed these dimensions, so a Luxury SUV or Executive Sprinter will normally park elsewhere. A sedan such as an E-Class or S-Class may fit, but the width limit is tight enough that the chauffeur should check the specific vehicle's dimensions before choosing the car park.

The car park and the tower share the same grounds; the Skytree page notes that parking for the Tokyo Solamachi shopping complex is listed on its own site. Observation deck tickets do not qualify for the town parking discount, according to the car page.

Read the tower's own car access page before you travel, since limits and times can change.

Coaches, minibuses and larger groups

Larger vehicles follow a different system. The chartered bus page states that bus parking requires an advance reservation, that the reservation opens one month before the visit and closes the day before, and that reservations are not accepted on weekends, public holidays or in the year-end and New Year period. Buses enter only from the Oshiage side, and parking runs from 9:30 to 21:00, with last entry at 19:00. The group reservation center closes on weekends and holidays.

If you are travelling with a group of 10 to 14 in an Executive Sprinter, or want a mini-coach or coach on request, talk to the desk early. Weekday visits are straightforward; a weekend group visit needs a drop-off plan that does not rely on bus parking. See the chartered bus page for the tower's wording.

Reserve your chauffeur

Morning view, daytime or night view

Tickets for a morning view and a night view exist as separate products, so the tower itself expects visitors to choose their light.

  • Morning: the most reliable hours for a short wait. The tower sells a separate Morning View ticket; check its official page for the exact time window. This is a good slot for a weekday arrival from Haneda.
  • Daytime: clear air matters more than the hour; a hazy afternoon limits the view, and the crowd forecast is more useful than the clock.
  • Evening and night: the night view ticket is for the illuminated city. Plan to leave the area when the first rush of departures is over.

Weather can close the view even when the tower is open. If you are planning a single evening visit, build a backup into the schedule, for example the tower in the first 60 minutes of the evening and the shopping complex or dinner afterwards.

An eastern Tokyo day: Asakusa, Sumida and Toyosu

This sequence suits a full day and keeps the car out of the most congested streets.

  1. 7:00, Senso-ji. Arrive when the main hall opens. See our guide to Senso-ji by car for the drop-off at Kaminarimon.
  2. 9:00, Tokyo Skytree. Take the Morning View slot, or a weekday daytime ticket. Allow about two hours with tickets and the lifts.
  3. 12:00, lunch in the complex or a river-side restaurant. Book ahead on weekends.
  4. 14:00, Toyosu. Cross to the Koto side for teamLab Planets, around 10 km (6 miles) from Oshiage, 20 to 40 minutes by car.
  5. Evening, back to your hotel by the Metropolitan Expressway.

Or reverse the order and see the tower at dusk, then dine in Asakusa. For a family, add Tokyo Disney Resort on a separate day instead of squeezing it in.

On a congested Saturday, the train usually wins. On weekdays, a car from Haneda or the city is straightforward and keeps the group together.

When the weather turns, and how to brief your chauffeur

Cloud and rain change the Skytree plan more than any road does. A low cloud base can leave the upper deck looking into white, and since the tower recommends buying online, you can choose a day with a better forecast rather than turn up and hope. If your trip has only one free evening, set a decision point: say 15:00, when you look at the sky and tell the desk whether the evening stays with the tower or switches to an indoor plan in Oshiage or back in Asakusa.

Three things are worth telling the desk at booking, because they shape the choice of vehicle and the drop-off:

  • Group size and bags. A group of five or six with luggage is a Luxury SUV job, and that class will not use the on-site car parks if it is over the width limit; the chauffeur waits at a nearby paid lot and returns on your message.
  • Ticket time. Give the desk your entry time if you have booked one, so the drop-off falls 20 to 30 minutes ahead and not at the last moment.
  • Departure plans. If you are heading to Haneda or Narita after the tower, say so, and the chauffeur will build in the extra margin that a Saturday evening in Oshiage requires.

Book this transfer

Accessibility, children and etiquette

The decks are served by lifts, and the tower's pages mention a main entrance on the fourth floor. If any member of your party uses a wheelchair or has limited mobility, the tower has a call center and a contact form, and the chauffeur can arrange the closest practical drop-off. Tell the desk early if you need a child, toddler or booster seat, because the right size is fitted before pickup.

Queue calmly in the lift lobbies; Japanese venues expect order and quiet. A guest who wants minimal attention should say so at booking, and an alias or NDA can be set up then.

Official tourist offices and visitor bureaus that send guests to the tower can book chauffeur services for their visitors with LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com through a trade account; the Asia-Pacific tourist offices page explains how. For the wider region, browse the Asia-Pacific directory and the private tours with driver page.

The tower says the surrounding roads are expected to be extremely congested on weekends and public holidays and recommends public transport. The best slots for a car are weekday mornings.

Can a Sprinter or large SUV park at the tower?

Not in the on-site car parks if it exceeds the length, width or height limits. Groups in larger vehicles are directed to nearby paid lots or, for coaches, to the reserved bus parking on weekdays.

What are the observation deck heights?

The Tembo Deck is at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters; the tower is 634 meters tall, according to the official site.

Should I book Skytree tickets online?

The tower recommends online purchase and publishes a crowd forecast. Morning and night-view tickets exist as separate products.

How close is Tokyo Skytree to Senso-ji?

About 1.5 km (1 mile), a few minutes by car or a 20 to 25 minute walk. The two combine well in one morning.
