A chauffeur service in India is, for most business visitors, the single most useful booking after the flight and the hotel. Mumbai and Delhi are both cities where a short distance can take a long time, where the right gate matters more than the street address, and where a driver who knows the city turns a stressful day into a productive one.
This guide compares the two cities side by side, explains the airport pickup rules, sets out the road-safety basics that every travel manager should know, and shows how to structure an hourly day. For city detail, sights and day trips, see our Mumbai chauffeur service and Delhi chauffeur service pages.
Why do business travelers book a chauffeur service in India?
Business travelers book a chauffeur in India because distances look short but traffic makes timings unpredictable, gates and building entrances matter, and road-safety standards vary. A pre-booked, licensed driver with a seat-belted, air-conditioned car, a fixed fare and a named meeting point removes most of that uncertainty.
Three reasons come up again and again.
- Time is the scarce resource. A meeting 10 km away can take 20 minutes at night and over an hour at the evening peak. A driver who stays with you through the day absorbs that uncertainty instead of you.
- Safety is not uniform. The UK government's India safety and security advice says India has a high death rate from road accidents, advises avoiding travel at night and in fog where possible, and notes that seatbelts are not common in the back seats of taxis or in three-wheel autos. A professionally maintained car with working rear belts is a basic duty-of-care measure.
- Navigation is local knowledge. Addresses in older districts can be ambiguous, large office campuses have several gates, and security checks at hotels and corporate parks are routine. A local chauffeur knows which entrance to use.
Our series guide to duty of care in ground transport explains how travel managers document these standards for their travelers.
Mumbai and Delhi compared for executive travel
The two cities feel very different from the back seat. This table summarizes the practical contrasts for a visiting executive.

| Factor | Mumbai | Delhi and the NCR |
|---|---|---|
| Shape of the city | Long and narrow, a north-south spine with sea links | Spread out, with satellite business hubs in Gurugram and Noida |
| Airport to the main business area | About 22 km by road to Nariman Point; about 8 km to BKC (Rome2Rio) | About 20 km by road to Connaught Place; about 19 km to Gurgaon (Rome2Rio) |
| Typical business addresses | Nariman Point, Lower Parel, Worli, BKC, Andheri | Connaught Place, Aerocity, Chanakyapuri, Gurugram, Noida |
| Seasonal factor | Heavy monsoon rain in the wet season | Winter fog and air-quality restrictions; intense summer heat |
| Rail alternative | Suburban trains and metro, hard with luggage | Delhi Metro, with a line serving the airport |
| Best booking for a meeting day | Hourly car, cluster meetings by district | Hourly car, plan Gurugram and central Delhi on separate days if possible |
Road distances are from Rome2Rio's route data for Mumbai Airport to Nariman Point, Mumbai Airport to Bandra Kurla Complex, Delhi Airport to Connaught Place and Delhi Airport to Gurgaon. The drive times those pages show, roughly 20 minutes in each case, assume free-flowing traffic; at the morning and evening peaks the same trips can take several times as long.
How do airport pickups work in Delhi and Mumbai?
Airport pickups are where a booked chauffeur pays for itself, because many long-haul flights land late at night, after a long day of travel, when a familiar name on a confirmation matters most.

Delhi (DEL). The airport operator's private car page states that Terminals 1 and 2 are domestic only and Terminal 3 handles international and domestic flights. At Terminal 3, the arrivals pick-up for private cars is at Lane 3, clearly marked, with assistants and help desks available. Your chauffeur meets you there, or inside arrivals if you add a name-board service.
Mumbai (BOM). Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport serves international and domestic flights from separate terminals. Check the airport and terminal printed on your ticket, as the Mumbai region is served by more than one airport, and give the flight number when you book so the driver goes to the right place.
At both airports the routine is the same:
- Your flight number goes in the booking and the driver tracks it, so a delayed or early landing moves the pickup automatically.
- International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, enough for immigration and baggage at a busy hour; domestic arrivals include 30 minutes.
- A meet and greet with a name board can be added, with an alias on the board if you prefer not to show a personal or company name.
- Your confirmation names the driver, the vehicle and the meeting point, so there is no need to engage anyone offering rides in the hall.
The FCDO page notes that app-based taxis are widely available in airport terminal buildings, and for a solo traveler with a light bag in daylight they are a reasonable choice. A pre-booked chauffeur is the better option after a long-haul night flight, with luggage, with family, or when you go straight to a meeting. The airport car service page explains the process worldwide.
Building an executive day in Mumbai
Mumbai rewards geography. Because the city is long and narrow, an efficient day stays in one band of it rather than travelling end to end.

- South Mumbai day. Nariman Point, Fort and Cuffe Parade meetings fit together, with lunch nearby. The car waits in a planned spot, since parking in the old district is scarce.
- Central and BKC day. Lower Parel, Worli and Bandra Kurla Complex are linked by the sea link, and BKC sits close to the airport, which makes it a natural first or last stop of a trip.
- Western suburbs day. Andheri and Juhu suit media and entertainment meetings and airport hotels.
Practical habits that help: give the driver the building name and a landmark as well as the street address; agree the gate for large complexes; and in the monsoon season, add a time cushion and let the driver choose the route, because waterlogged underpasses change the map hour by hour. More local detail is on the Mumbai chauffeur service page.

Building an executive day in Delhi and the NCR
Delhi's challenge is spread rather than density. Government and diplomatic meetings cluster in central New Delhi, hotels and corporate offices at Aerocity sit beside the airport, and many company headquarters are in Gurugram or Noida, across state lines.
- Separate Gurugram from central Delhi. If you can, put Gurugram meetings on one day and Lutyens' Delhi on another. Crossing between them at the peak is the single biggest time sink in the NCR.
- Use Aerocity as a base on short trips. For a one-night stay with meetings in Gurugram and an early flight, a hotel near the airport keeps every drive short.
- Expect security checks. Government buildings, embassies and hotels screen vehicles at the gate. Share the full names of passengers in advance so guest lists match.
- Plan for winter fog and air quality. Early-morning fog slows the expressways in winter, and air-quality measures can restrict some vehicles at times. A licensed local operator knows what applies on your dates and assigns a compliant car.
For the Taj Mahal or the Golden Triangle by road, the Delhi chauffeur service page sets out distances and timing, and long-distance car service covers fixed-fare intercity runs.
Hourly or transfers: which suits an India business trip?
For most meeting days in either city, hourly service is the better format. The car stays with you, holds your materials and a change of clothes, and is there when a meeting overruns. The hourly chauffeur service page explains minimums and overtime, and our guide to booking a private driver for the day compares a full-day booking with a string of transfers.
Transfers make more sense for a single airport run, an evening dinner after a day spent in one building, or a one-way trip between cities. A good rule: three or more stops, or any stop with an uncertain finish time, points to hourly.
Security and discretion
Visiting principals, senior executives and family-office clients often ask how far a chauffeur service goes on security. The honest answer:
- What we do. Pre-booked, licensed drivers; named meeting points; flight tracking; drivers who do not photograph clients or post about trips; NDAs on request; itineraries shared only with the people who need them.
- What we do not do. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company. Our chauffeurs are not armed and do not act as bodyguards. Where your risk assessment calls for close protection, our drivers work alongside your own security team.
Our HNWI and family-office chauffeur page describes how principal movements are planned, and the executive chauffeur service desk handles bookings made by assistants.
Corporate programs across India
Companies that send staff to both cities usually set up one account rather than booking city by city. A corporate car service account gives approved vehicle classes, traveler profiles with preferences and one monthly invoice, and investor or sales visits with tight meeting grids fit the roadshow car service format. Delegations of up to 12 to 14 move together in an Executive Sprinter.
Local delivery comes from vetted, licensed and commercially insured operators listed in our Asia-Pacific directory; LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books, confirms and invoices each ride. The same desk covers onward cities in India and abroad, as the global chauffeur service page explains, and our executive car service guide covers how to brief a driver and set expectations anywhere in the world.
Choosing the car
- Executive Sedan (E-Class or similar): one to three travelers, city meetings.
- First Class Sedan (S-Class, 7 Series or similar): senior executives and principals.
- Luxury SUV: families, more luggage, intercity runs and monsoon days.
- Executive Sprinter: delegations and wedding parties.
Vehicles are late-model and air-conditioned, at most four model years old (seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach on request). Classes are on the fleet page.

Frequently asked questions
Is a chauffeur service in India better than app-based taxis?
For a short daytime hop with one bag, app-based taxis work well and are widely available. A pre-booked chauffeur is better after a night flight, with luggage or family, for a full day of meetings, or when your travel policy requires a vetted driver and a car with rear seatbelts.
Where does my driver meet me at Delhi Airport?
International flights use Terminal 3. The airport's private-car pick-up for T3 arrivals is at Lane 3, which is clearly marked. Your confirmation gives the exact meeting point and driver name, and a name-board meet and greet inside arrivals can be added.
How far is Mumbai airport from Nariman Point?
About 22 km by road. Route planners show around 20 minutes in free-flowing traffic, which is realistic only late at night; at peak hours allow far longer. Bandra Kurla Complex is much closer to the airport, at roughly 8 km.
Should I stay in Gurugram or central Delhi for meetings?
Stay where most of your meetings are. Gurugram is about 19 km from the airport by road, central Delhi about 20 km, but crossing between them at peak hours costs the most time. Aerocity, beside the airport, is a practical base for short trips.
Can I hire a driver for a full day in Mumbai or Delhi?
Yes. Hourly and full-day bookings are the usual format for meeting days in both cities. Share your stops, gates, landmarks and meeting times at booking, and the car stays with you between appointments, with the full fare fixed and shown before you confirm.
Do your chauffeurs in India provide security?
No. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company, and our drivers are not armed. They follow discreet working practices, sign NDAs on request and work alongside your own security team where your risk assessment calls for close protection.
