A Nice private jet arrival is the default way into the French Riviera for business aviation, but it is not the only one, and in the busiest weeks of the year it is not always the best. Between mid-May and early June the coast hosts two of the most crowded events in private aviation. The official site of the Festival de Cannes lists its 80th edition for 11 to 22 May 2027, and Formula 1's calendar shows the Monaco Grand Prix on 4 to 6 June 2027, a sprint weekend.
This guide covers the air side: which airport suits which trip, how the helicopter link to Monaco works, and why parking, not flying time, is what you are really booking. For the ground side of those weeks, see our sibling guides to Cannes Film Festival chauffeur planning and Monaco Grand Prix transportation.
Which airport should a private jet use for Cannes and Monaco?
Use Nice Côte d'Azur for Monaco, for larger jets and when you need maximum parking and handling choice. Use Cannes-Mandelieu when your aircraft is accepted there and your business is in Cannes, since it sits on the city's western edge. For Monaco, most travelers land at Nice and take the 7-minute helicopter or the motorway.
The Riviera has three business aviation airports run by the same group: Nice Côte d'Azur, Cannes-Mandelieu and Golfe de Saint-Tropez. They split the traffic by aircraft size, destination and season, and the operator of your flight, who holds operational control, decides what the aircraft can legally and safely use. Your choice is about where you need to be when the door opens.
| Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) | Cannes-Mandelieu (CEQ) | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | West of Nice, on the coast | Western edge of Cannes, about 5 km from the city |
| To the Palais des Festivals | 27 km by road | A short local drive |
| To Monaco | 22 km by road, or a 7-minute helicopter flight | Longer road trip along the coast |
| Aircraft | Light jets to large long-range jets | Light to selected large-cabin jets, under noise and size limits |
| Hours | Major international airport | Published seasonal hours, to 22:00 local in summer |
| Best for | Monaco, large jets, maximum handling choice | Cannes-focused trips in accepted aircraft |
Nice private jet arrivals: the business aviation hub
Nice is the region's main gateway and its biggest private aviation ramp. The airport's own business aviation page says it has parking for approximately 120 business aircraft, depending on type. Its Business Aviation Terminal, inaugurated in March 2010, covers 1,510 m² with its own customs control post and two security posts for departing passengers. The airport lists three FBO groundhandlers in that terminal: AviaVIP, Signature Aviation and DC Aviation G-OPS.

Two details matter for planning. First, the same page notes environmental rules: limited time windows for noisy aircraft, auxiliary power unit use capped at 30 minutes, and aircraft on the KILO apron shutting down on arrival and being towed to their stand. Expect your crew to plan around that. Second, Nice has a dedicated helicopter terminal opened in November 2015, with fourteen helicopter stands and two final approach and take-off areas next to it, which is what makes the Monaco link so smooth.
Our Nice NCE private aviation page covers the chauffeur pickup at the business terminal. If you are new to private terminals, our explainer on what an FBO is describes what happens between landing and the car door.
Cannes-Mandelieu: closer to the Croisette, with limits
The Cannes Mandelieu airport describes itself as the second business aviation airport in France. Its appeal is obvious: for a festival trip, it puts you on the right side of the Riviera traffic, close to the Croisette, instead of 27 km away at Nice.

Its limits are just as real. The airport publishes seasonal opening hours: the FBO opens at 06:30 and closes at 22:00 local time from early May to late August, and earlier in other seasons. The site directs IFR pilots to a mandatory briefing before landing. Aircraft size and noise are also constrained. When the airport raised its weight limit in 2015, Aviation International News reported that types such as the Falcon 7X, Gulfstream IV and Challenger 850 became eligible, while tougher noise limits excluded older types.
So a Cannes private jet plan starts with one question for the operator: is this aircraft accepted at Cannes-Mandelieu, at that time of day, under the current noise rules? If yes, it is usually the most convenient choice for business in Cannes. If not, Nice is the answer, and the road leg simply becomes longer.
Monaco private jet trips: the helicopter hop
There is no airport in Monaco. Every Monaco private jet trip lands somewhere else, almost always Nice, and finishes by road or helicopter.

The Monaco government's business portal says the Principality is 22 km from Nice Côte d'Azur airport, about 25 minutes by motorway, and that the helicopter flight from Nice to the Monaco heliport takes about 7 minutes, with scheduled departures every 20 minutes. Nice airport's business aviation page names the regular Nice-Monaco helicopter operators as Blade and Heli Air Monaco.
The choice between the two depends on the day:
- Normal weeks: the road is often perfectly fine, door to door, with no transfer at the heliport.
- Grand Prix week and big yacht events: the circuit runs on Monaco's streets, so road access is tighter and slower. The helicopter removes the coast road from the equation, and a car meets you at the Monaco heliport for the last few hundred meters.
- Heavy luggage or a family group: check baggage allowances on the helicopter in advance. A car or van may carry what the helicopter cannot, so many travelers split people and bags.
Our sibling guide to helicopter transfers explains scheduled seats versus private charter in more detail, and our Monaco chauffeur guide covers cars inside the Principality.
Why parking is the real constraint in May and June
During the festival and the Grand Prix, aircraft arrive for the same few days and many stay. A ramp of about 120 business aircraft at Nice sounds large until a single event week brings demand from across Europe, the Gulf and North America at once. Cannes-Mandelieu is smaller still.
That shapes the trip in three ways:
- Book the aircraft early, then confirm parking. The charter operator and its handler request ramp space. On peak days, the answer may be a drop at Nice and a reposition to another airport, with the jet returning for departure.
- Fix your departure time sooner than you would like. On the Monday after the Grand Prix or the final weekend of the festival, departure demand bunches. A flexible return is more expensive to protect.
- Allow for crew rest and positioning. If the aircraft leaves and comes back, crew duty limits apply to those legs too. Your operator builds this into the quote.
As your booking agent, LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com sources the aircraft from licensed operators holding a European air operator certificate or equivalent; the operator flies the aircraft and handles slots and parking with the handler. We do not own or operate aircraft.

Matching the car to the runway
Each airport implies a different ground plan, and getting it wrong is how people lose an hour on the A8.
Nice to Cannes. The Palais des Festivals is 27 km from Nice airport, per the Cannes tourism office. Allow considerably more time than the distance suggests during festival week, when the approach to the Croisette is congested and access near the Palais is controlled. A chauffeur from our Nice and Monaco chauffeur service meets you at the business aviation terminal and drives direct.
Cannes-Mandelieu to Cannes. The shortest leg on the coast. This is where the private jet saves the most time, which is why the airport is so sought after in May.
Nice to Monaco. 22 km and about 25 minutes by motorway in normal conditions, per the Monaco government. In Grand Prix week, consider the helicopter, with a car booked at both ends.
Staying on board a yacht? The car often meets you at the airport and runs you to a quay or tender point rather than a hotel. Our guide to yacht charter arrivals covers that hand-off.
For the event days themselves, an hourly chauffeur is usually better value than a string of transfers: screenings, dinners and parties are spread along the coast, and the car waits rather than re-booking in peak traffic.
A sample timeline for a festival arrival
Here is how a typical Cannes arrival from London or Paris is coordinated:
- Six weeks or more ahead: request the charter. The operator checks whether your aircraft is accepted at Cannes-Mandelieu and requests parking or plans a reposition. Book the ground car at the same time.
- One week ahead: confirm the arrival airport, handler, passenger names and bag count. Share the accommodation address and any accreditation pick-up stops with the chauffeur desk.
- Arrival day: the chauffeur tracks the flight by tail number, waits at the FBO and loads bags while you clear formalities. Under our ground policy, free waiting is 60 minutes after international landings.
- Event days: an hourly car on call, or a dedicated VIP chauffeur where discretion and security coordination matter.
- Departure: leave buffer for festival or race-weekend traffic on the road to the airport, and reconfirm the slot the day before.
Ground cancellations follow our standard terms: more than 72 hours before pickup free; inside 72 hours 10%; inside 48 hours 50%; inside 24 hours or a no-show 100%.
Beyond May and June: other Riviera event weeks
The same logic applies to other busy periods on the coast, including trade events at the Palais such as ILTM Cannes and the summer high season. Outside event weeks, Nice parking is easier, Cannes-Mandelieu's later summer hours help, and the road to Monaco is usually the simplest option.
For our event pages, see the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix, which cover ground program details for each.

Frequently asked questions
Is it better to fly private into Nice or Cannes-Mandelieu?
It depends on the aircraft and the destination. Cannes-Mandelieu is closer to the Croisette, but it has seasonal hours and noise and size limits, so not every jet is accepted. Nice takes a wider range of aircraft, has the larger business aviation ramp, and is the natural choice for Monaco. Ask the operator to confirm acceptance before you choose.
How long is the helicopter from Nice airport to Monaco?
About 7 minutes, according to the Monaco government, with scheduled departures every 20 minutes. Nice airport has a dedicated helicopter terminal with fourteen stands, and the regular Nice-Monaco operators are Blade and Heli Air Monaco. Book a car at the Monaco heliport for the final leg to your hotel or berth.
How far is Monaco from Nice airport by car?
The Monaco government puts the Principality 22 km from Nice Côte d'Azur airport, about 25 minutes by motorway in normal traffic. During the Grand Prix, roads around the circuit are restricted and the coast is busy, so allow much longer or take the helicopter. A luxury chauffeur service can be booked at either end.
Can I park my private jet at Nice during the Cannes Film Festival?
Sometimes, but plan for the possibility that you cannot. Nice has room for about 120 business aircraft depending on type, and festival and Grand Prix weeks fill it. Your charter operator requests parking through the handler; if the ramp is full, the jet drops you and repositions, returning for your departure.
How far is the Palais des Festivals from Nice airport?
The Cannes tourism office says the Palais des Festivals is 27 km from Nice-Côte d'Azur airport. In festival week the last stretch along the Croisette is congested and access near the Palais is controlled, so the drive takes longer than the distance suggests. A chauffeur who knows the drop-off points saves real time.
Do I need a chauffeur for every day of a Riviera event trip?
Not always, but during the festival or Grand Prix an hourly car usually beats one-way bookings. Venues, hotels, yachts and restaurants are spread along the coast, and finding a car at short notice in peak weeks is hard. For groups or staff, add a Sprinter van with driver alongside the principal's car.
