Good Monaco Grand Prix transportation starts with an uncomfortable truth: for most of race week, the car is not the fastest way into the Principality. The circuit is made of Monaco's own streets, so the roads that a chauffeur would normally use become grandstands, pit lanes and run-off areas. The people who travel well that week mix modes. A jet or airline lands them in Nice, a helicopter or train carries them over the bottleneck, a boat tender handles the harbor, and a chauffeur does what a chauffeur does best: the airport, the hotel, the luggage and the long evening drive along the coast.

This guide shows how to split those legs. For dates, distances and vehicle classes in summary form, see our Monaco Grand Prix event page.

Price & book your ride

How do you get to the Monaco Grand Prix on race day?

On race day, take the train from Nice (about 20 minutes, then roughly a 10-minute walk) or a helicopter shuttle from Nice airport to Monaco's heliport. Use a Monaco GP chauffeur for the legs around the closures: airport and hotel transfers, evening dinners on the coast, and a pickup outside the closure area after the race.

The official Formula 1 ticketing page for Monaco puts it plainly: driving into Monaco during race weekend is heavily restricted, and public transport is strongly recommended. The same page says the Monaco-Monte Carlo station is a 10-minute walk from the start-finish straight and that direct, frequent trains from Nice take around 20 minutes. Any honest chauffeur plan begins there.

What changes in 2027, and how many days need planning?

The organizer, the Automobile Club de Monaco, lists the 84th Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco for 3 to 6 June 2027, while Formula 1's ticketing site gives race weekend as 4 to 6 June. The Club's homepage also announces a new sprint format with two qualifying sessions and two races. For transport, that means more days with track action and closures, not fewer, so plan four active days plus your arrival and departure.

A useful way to think about the week:

  • Arrival day (often Wednesday or Thursday): roads are largely open, and this is the easiest day for a chauffeured arrival straight to a Monaco hotel with luggage.
  • Track days: treat central Monaco as closed to cars during sessions. Move in early or arrive by rail, helicopter or boat.
  • Evenings: the car comes back into its own for dinners in Èze, Beaulieu or Nice, once the day's sessions end and roads reopen in stages.
  • Departure day (Monday): the busiest airport day of the week at Nice. Book the transfer early and leave margin.

Monaco GP helicopter or chauffeur from Nice?

The helicopter question comes up in nearly every booking. Monaco's heliport is in the Fontvieille district, behind the Louis II Stadium, and is managed by the Principality's Civil Aviation Authority. According to Monaco's official business portal, several companies run regular shuttle services to Nice Côte d'Azur, and passengers can complete check-in at the heliport for domestic flights and for most international flights departing Nice.

At the other end, Nice has a dedicated helicopter terminal, opened in 2015, with a VIP lounge and a security checkpoint that leads directly to boarding, plus a scheduled Nice to Monaco helicopter service. Local reporting from Monaco Life on the 2024 race put the flight at about seven minutes helipad to helipad, quoted shuttle seats from roughly €550 to €650 per person depending on the day, and warned that the same trip by road can take two hours or more during the Grand Prix. Treat those prices as a 2024 snapshot; operators set their own fares each year.

The practical answer for many guests is a combination: a chauffeur meets you planeside or at arrivals in Nice, drives you the short distance to the helicopter terminal, and a second car meets the helicopter in Fontvieille. Our desk books the cars at both ends and works to the helicopter operator's timings, while the flight itself is booked with the operator. Read our helicopter transfers guide for the general mechanics.

How do yacht guests and harbor hospitality move around?

Port Hercule, the main harbor wrapped around the circuit, has 760 berths according to the Ports of Monaco, and during race week many of them become private viewing platforms. Guests invited aboard face a specific problem: the quays sit inside the circuit, so cars cannot simply pull up alongside.

How it usually works:

  1. Before the closures: a chauffeur drops guests as close to the harbor as the day's access allows, early in the morning.
  2. During sessions: guests stay aboard or move on foot along the routes open that day.
  3. After the last session: the car meets guests at an agreed point outside the closed perimeter, or the yacht's tender runs them to a quieter landing.

If your yacht is moored elsewhere on the Riviera, the tender schedule and the chauffeur schedule have to meet at a named dock at a named time. Our article on yacht charter ground transport covers tender-to-car handovers in more detail.

Where does a Monaco GP chauffeur actually help?

A Monaco GP chauffeur earns the fee on the legs that public transport handles badly:

  • Private aviation arrivals. Most business jets bound for Monaco use Nice; see our Nice Côte d'Azur private aviation page and private jet car service. Smaller jets sometimes use Cannes Mandelieu, whose published summer hours run air traffic control from 08:00 to 22:00, about 60 km (37 miles) and 55 to 80 minutes from Monaco by road on a normal day. If you still need the aircraft, our private jet charter desk acts as your booking agent with licensed operators.
  • Hotels outside the Principality. Cap d'Ail (about 3 km), Èze (about 10 km) and Menton (about 10 km) are common bases, and a car between hotel and station saves an awkward walk with bags.
  • Dinner runs. The Moyenne and Grande Corniche roads above Monaco are winding and slow after dark, and a chauffeur removes the question of who drives after dinner. See Eze Village for drop-off notes.
  • Departure after the race. The crowd leaves at once. A pickup arranged outside the closure area, timed to when roads reopen, is better than a taxi queue.

Vehicle classes and luggage capacities are on the fleet page. For a day with several stops, book by time rather than by leg; our hourly chauffeur service explains how blocks of hours work.

This example assumes a Nice arrival by business jet, a hotel in Cap d'Ail and Paddock Club or yacht hospitality.

The same structure scales to a corporate group: one Executive Sprinter for the team, a sedan on standby for the host, and a single desk contact holding the plan. Our event transportation page explains multi-vehicle programs, and corporate car service covers monthly invoicing.

What if your hotel is inside Monaco?

Staying in the Principality puts you on the right side of the closures for walking to the circuit, but on the wrong side for cars. Some hotel entrances sit on or beside the track, and vehicle access during sessions can be limited to set windows or closed entirely. Three habits help:

  • Ask the hotel how its car entrance works on each track day before you fix any pickup, and share the answer with the desk.
  • Move luggage on the open days. Arrive with bags before the first session day and leave after the roads reopen, rather than trying to collect suitcases mid-weekend.
  • Keep one car on the outside. For a group staying in Monaco, a chauffeur based just beyond the perimeter, in Beausoleil or Cap d'Ail, can reach guests who walk out to meet it far faster than a car trying to come in.

Guests with limited mobility should raise it at booking. The walking element on track days is real, and the plan may lean more on the helicopter, door-to-door car legs on open days, or a hotel outside the circuit.

Discretion and security around the paddock

Race week attracts principals who travel with their own protection teams. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and alias bookings are available. We are not a security company and do not supply bodyguards or armed drivers; we coordinate with your team's advance plan. See VIP and celebrity chauffeur for the standard we hold operators to.

Booking timeline and terms

Book cars through the online booker as soon as hotel and flights are confirmed, ideally months ahead. Helicopter seats and handling slots at Nice are separate bookings with their own deadlines, so secure them first and then give the desk the times. Standard ground terms, measured from pickup: more than 72 hours' notice free; inside 72 hours 10%; inside 48 hours 50%; inside 24 hours or a no-show 100%. Event weeks may carry a different deadline, shown on your confirmation. International airport arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the helicopter from Nice to Monaco?

Local reporting on the 2024 race put the flight at about seven minutes helipad to helipad. Add check-in time and a short car transfer at each end. Monaco's heliport is in Fontvieille, behind the Louis II Stadium, and offers check-in for many flights departing Nice.

Can a chauffeur drive me into Monaco on race day?

Not into the circuit streets during sessions. Formula 1's ticketing page says driving into Monaco on race weekend is heavily restricted. A chauffeur drops you before closures or outside the perimeter, and you walk, take the train or fly in by helicopter.

When is the 2027 Monaco Grand Prix?

The Automobile Club de Monaco lists the 84th Grand Prix for 3 to 6 June 2027, with a new sprint format, while Formula 1's ticketing site shows race weekend as 4 to 6 June. Check session times closer to the date before fixing pickups.

Is the train really faster than a car on race day?

Usually, yes. Trains from Nice take around 20 minutes, and the station is about a 10-minute walk from the start-finish straight. By road the same journey can take two hours or more during the Grand Prix, according to past reporting.

Where should a chauffeur pick me up after the race?

Outside the closure perimeter, at a point agreed with your driver before you go in. Roads reopen in stages, so many guests wait out the first surge over a drink or dinner, then walk to meet the car once traffic begins moving again.

Do you book the helicopter as well as the car?

We book the chauffeured cars at both ends and work to the helicopter operator's timings. The flight itself is booked directly with a helicopter operator, which sets its own fares, luggage allowance and check-in rules for race week. Send us the flight times once confirmed.
