A Wimbledon chauffeur and a Royal Ascot chauffeur do similar work on paper, collecting guests in London and returning them after a long day, but the two days could hardly be more different on the ground. Wimbledon is a tennis club in a residential corner of southwest London, reached mainly by Underground and rail, with streets that cannot absorb thousands of cars. Royal Ascot is a racecourse in Berkshire with numbered car parks, designated drop-off points by enclosure and a dress code that turns the car into a dressing room. Many international visitors attend both in the same fortnight, and a single plan covering both saves time and confusion.

This guide puts them side by side. For each event's overview, see our Wimbledon event page and Royal Ascot event page.

When are Wimbledon and Royal Ascot in 2027?

Royal Ascot 2027 runs from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June, and The Championships, Wimbledon run from 28 June to 11 July 2027. A chauffeur plan usually covers a Heathrow or Farnborough arrival, race days at Ascot, match days in SW19 and the evening returns to a central London hotel.

The All England Club publishes future Championships dates several years ahead: 28 June to 11 July 2027, then 3 to 16 July 2028. Ascot Racecourse's travel page lists Royal Ascot 2027 car parking by day from Tuesday 15 June to Saturday 19 June. Ascot falls first, so guests flying in for both often arrive in mid-June and stay through the opening week of the tennis.

How do guests get to Wimbledon without a car, and when is a car better?

The club is open about its preference. Its Getting Here page highly recommends public transport or active travel and offers a Championships journey planner. The official walking times are about 15 minutes from Southfields station (District line), 20 minutes from Wimbledon station (District line, National Rail and trams) and 25 minutes from Wimbledon Park station.

Other official options include a dedicated Championships bus from Wimbledon station, shared taxis with fixed fares from Southfields and Wimbledon stations, and a park and ride at Morden Park on the A24. The park and ride runs from 6.30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the last bus leaving the grounds at 10 p.m., or 10.40 p.m. if there is late play on Centre Court or No.1 Court.

So when does a Wimbledon chauffeur make sense?

  • Hospitality and debenture guests in smart dress who would rather not walk 15 to 25 minutes each way in summer heat or rain.
  • Guests based outside the District line, such as a Surrey country house, Windsor or Heathrow.
  • Families and groups with children, mobility needs or a picnic.
  • Late finishes, when stations are crowded and a car waiting at an agreed point is calmer than a platform queue.

Parking is tight. The club says public car parking spaces must be pre-booked with no on-day sales, car parks close no later than one hour after the grounds close, and there is no overnight parking. A chauffeur avoids the parking question entirely, because the car drops and leaves, then returns at an agreed time.

Where does a Wimbledon chauffeur drop you off?

The streets around the grounds are managed during the fortnight, and the arrangement can change between years. We do not rely on last year's layout. Your confirmation names a drop-off point based on the club's current guidance and your entrance, and the chauffeur updates it by message if anything changes. If your hospitality package or debenture includes its own arrival instructions, send them to the desk; they take priority.

For the return, the club's own taxi guidance is a useful clue to how traffic is organized: return shared taxis leave from Wimbledon Park Road (exit via Gate 1) and from the Somerset Road rank (exit via Gate 12). Your chauffeur's pickup will be a short walk from your exit gate, timed around the end of play. Transport for London's taxi and minicab guidance tells riders to always book a minicab and offers a licence checker for private hire drivers, vehicles and operators; every London operator we place is licensed and insured.

How do Royal Ascot chauffeur drop-offs work by enclosure?

Ascot is the opposite case: the car is expected, and the racecourse tells it exactly where to go. On its travel page, Ascot states that for Royal Ascot, Royal Enclosure guests should be dropped off and picked up at Car Park 1 or Car Park 3, while all other enclosures are directed to the taxi drop-off points at Car Park 3 and Car Park 6. The same page describes Car Park 6 as ideal for Queen Anne and Windsor Enclosure guests and Car Park 8 as closest for the Village Enclosure.

Car parking at Royal Ascot must be bought in advance or on the day, and the racecourse notes that parking is included in all hospitality packages. Pre-booking for each 2027 race day closes about a week before that day. If your package includes a parking space, the chauffeur can use it to wait on site; otherwise the car drops at the designated point and returns for a staged pickup.

The racecourse also points helicopter guests to a landing facility close to the course, available subject to permission and not suitable for fixed-wing aircraft. Our helicopter transfers guide explains how a car meets a landing site.

Is the train a better choice for Royal Ascot?

For some guests, yes. South Western Railway runs to Ascot from London Waterloo, Reading and Aldershot, and the racecourse gives average journey times of 52 minutes from Waterloo, 30 from Aldershot and 27 from Reading, with the station a seven-minute walk from the course. Oyster and contactless cards are not valid to or from Ascot station, and queues and ticket checks are likely on the day.

A Royal Ascot chauffeur wins in specific cases: a guest arriving from Heathrow (about 30 km / 19 miles, 35 to 60 minutes on a race day) or Farnborough (about 20 to 25 km, 30 to 50 minutes); a group in formal dress; a host with clients; or anyone who wants the car to carry a change of clothes for dinner. From central London, about 45 km (28 miles), allow 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes on race days.

Dress codes, hats and what the car must carry

Ascot publishes separate dress codes for each enclosure on its website. Read the current rules before packing, then plan the car around them:

  • Headroom for hats. Tell the desk about large hats or headpieces. A Mercedes-Benz V-Class or similar gives more height than a sedan.
  • Garment bags. If dinner follows racing, a change of clothes in the car saves a return to the hotel.
  • Flat shoes for the walk. Car parks and the Village Enclosure involve grass and gravel; change at the entrance.
  • Umbrellas and a dry cabin. June weather in England changes quickly.

Wimbledon is less formal for ground-pass holders, but hospitality guests often dress for lunch, and the same logic applies: the car carries what you do not want to carry through the gates.

Arriving by private jet for the British summer season

Farnborough describes itself as the largest business aviation airport in the UK, and it is well placed for both events: about 45 km (28 miles) from Wimbledon and 20 to 25 km from Ascot. Our Farnborough private aviation page explains planeside meetings, and the guide to flying private into London compares Farnborough with Luton, Biggin Hill and Northolt. If you still need the aircraft, our private jet charter desk acts as your booking agent with licensed operators.

Visitors from the United States, Canada, Europe and many other countries usually need a UK electronic travel authorisation (ETA) or a visa. GOV.UK says each traveler needs an ETA, including children, and that it allows travel for up to six months. Check it before you fly, whether by airline or private jet.

London rules your chauffeur handles

Transport for London's Ultra Low Emission Zone covers all London boroughs, including Wimbledon, 24 hours a day except Christmas Day. The Congestion Charge applies in central London from 07:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 12:00 to 18:00 on weekends and bank holidays, so a pickup at a Mayfair hotel can fall inside it. Licensed operators manage both; the fare quoted in the booker already reflects the trip.

Building one plan for both fixtures

A good London events car service treats the fortnight as one itinerary, not a string of separate rides. A typical plan for a couple based in Mayfair: Heathrow arrival with a meet and greet; two race days at Ascot by First Class Sedan, with Royal Enclosure drop-off at Car Park 1; a free day with a London hourly chauffeur; then Wimbledon days with a morning drop-off and an agreed evening pickup. Book days with several stops through our hourly chauffeur service, and see the London chauffeur service page for the city. Groups use an Executive Sprinter; classes are on the fleet page.

Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, NDAs are signed on request, and alias bookings are available; see VIP and celebrity chauffeur. Companies hosting clients can use a corporate car service account. Heading to New York for the next Grand Slam? Read the US Open tennis car service guide. Racing fans can compare Ascot with Kentucky Derby transportation.

Book through the online booker or call the desk on (877) 860-3388. Standard terms, measured from pickup: more than 72 hours' notice free; inside 72 hours 10%; inside 48 hours 50%; inside 24 hours or a no-show 100%. Event weeks may carry a different deadline, shown on your confirmation. Heathrow pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting after international landings.

Frequently asked questions

Where does a chauffeur drop Royal Enclosure guests at Ascot?

Ascot Racecourse says Royal Enclosure guests should be dropped off and picked up at Car Park 1 or Car Park 3. Guests in other enclosures use the taxi drop-off points at Car Park 3 and Car Park 6. Your chauffeur confirms the point for your badge before race day.

Can a Wimbledon chauffeur drop me at the gates?

The streets around the grounds are managed during The Championships, so cars use agreed drop-off points rather than the gates. Your confirmation names the point based on the club's current guidance and your entrance, and you walk the final stretch.

Is the train faster than a car to Wimbledon?

Often it is as fast or faster on match days. Southfields station is about a 15-minute walk from the grounds, according to the club. A chauffeur is better for hospitality guests, families, airport arrivals and late finishes, when a waiting car avoids crowded platforms.

How long does it take to get from London to Royal Ascot?

By train, Ascot gives an average of 52 minutes from Waterloo, plus a seven-minute walk. By car from central London, about 45 km (28 miles), allow 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes on race days, because traffic builds around the course during the meeting.

Can I fly a helicopter to Royal Ascot?

The racecourse says there is a helicopter landing facility close to the course, available subject to permission and not suitable for fixed-wing aircraft. A chauffeur can meet you there, or at Farnborough if you arrive by private jet and drive the final 20 to 25 km.

Do I need a UK ETA to attend Wimbledon or Ascot?

Many visitors do. GOV.UK says most visitors from Europe, the USA, Canada and certain other countries need an ETA or a visa, and that each traveler needs one, including children. Apply only through the official GOV.UK service before you travel.
