An Art Basel Miami car service is less about the ride from the airport and more about the four or five days that follow. The fair's official page lists Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, with invitation-only Private Days on Wednesday, December 2 and Thursday, December 3, and Public Days from Friday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6. Around it, the city runs a full Art Week; in 2025 the City of Miami Beach's Art Week page listed December 1 to 7.

For collectors, advisors, gallerists and the corporate hosts who entertain them, that week is a moving schedule: a preview at 11 am, a lunch in the Design District, a collection visit on the mainland, a dinner back on the beach. This guide covers how to fly in, which airport fits which plan, and how to set up ground transport so the car is where the schedule needs it.

What is the best way to get around Art Basel Miami Beach?

For collectors and VIP guests, the most reliable option is a chauffeur booked by the hour for each fair day. Miami Beach is reached from the mainland by a few causeways, traffic builds during Art Week, and venues are spread between the beach, downtown and the Design District. An hourly car waits and follows the schedule.

The geography explains why. The City of Miami Beach lists three causeways linking the island to the mainland: the Julia Tuttle (I-195) and the 79th Street causeway for North and Mid Beach, and the MacArthur (I-395) for South Beach, where the Convention Center sits. Every trip between the fair and a mainland venue crosses one of them, and so does everyone else's.

A one-way booking for each leg means waiting for a new car every time, often at the busiest moment. A Miami Beach chauffeur on an hourly basis drops you, waits nearby and is ready when the conversation runs long. Our guide to car service by the hour vs point to point shows when each model costs less; Art Basel week is the textbook case for hourly.

Art Basel private jet arrivals: which airport?

Most Art Basel private jet traffic uses one of three Miami-Dade airports, or heads north to Broward. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department publishes details for each.

Miami-Opa locka Executive (OPF) is the main business aviation airport north of the city. The county lists it as 7 miles north of MIA and open 24 hours, and its airport page gives about 30 minutes to Miami Beach, about 35 minutes to downtown, three FBOs (Atlantic Aviation, Fontainebleau Aviation and Signature Flight Support), a main runway of 8,002 feet, and on-site U.S. Customs from 9 am to midnight daily, with one hour's advance notice through ATC.

Miami Executive (TMB), formerly Kendall-Tamiami, is in south Miami-Dade. Its airport page lists Customs as a landing-rights facility open 10:00 to 18:00 in winter, a longest runway of 5,999 feet, and a tower open 7:00 to 23:00. It suits travelers heading to Coral Gables, Pinecrest or Coconut Grove rather than the beach.

Miami International (MIA) has a General Aviation Center whose fixed base operator is Signature MIA, and the county notes that the center houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection for arriving international private flights. MIA is about 10 miles west of Miami Beach by the city's own description.

Broward airports also feed the fair. The City of Miami Beach puts Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International about 25 to 30 minutes north of Miami Beach in normal conditions. Our sibling guide to Miami private jet charter compares the region's airports in more depth.

Times and distances are those published by Miami-Dade Aviation Department and the City of Miami Beach; Art Week traffic can lengthen them considerably.

How do collectors plan the fair days?

Collectors and advisors rarely spend a full day inside the Convention Center. The typical VIP day is a series of short, high-value stops, and the transport has to fit that rhythm.

Private Days. Art Basel's 2026 schedule lists First Choice access from 11 am to 7 pm on Wednesday, December 2, with Preview access from 4 pm, and both from 11 am to 7 pm on Thursday, December 3, followed by the Vernissage from 4 pm to 7 pm. These are the days when timing matters most, and when a car waiting a few minutes away beats any app.

Entrances. The fair's ticket information says visitors enter through the dedicated entrance stated on their ticket. Tell the chauffeur which entrance is yours, so the drop-off is at the right side of the building rather than a walk around the block.

Off-site appointments. Collection visits, gallery dinners and satellite fairs take you across the bay. Build in causeway time between each, and avoid scheduling a mainland lunch and a beach preview back-to-back without a buffer.

Discretion. Buyers and consignors often prefer that their movements are not visible. A chauffeur from a professional operator works under confidentiality expectations, and our guide to discreet travel and NDAs explains how that is set up.

Choosing the vehicle for your Art Basel Miami car service

The right car depends on who rides and what they carry.

A black executive sedan
A black executive sedan
  • Executive sedan: one or two passengers moving between previews and meetings. Discreet, easy to stage near the Convention Center.
  • SUV: three or four guests, or one principal plus an advisor and a bag of catalogs. Our luxury chauffeur service offers both sedans and SUVs.
  • Sprinter van: a gallery team, a client dinner group or a corporate host moving guests together. Book a Sprinter van with driver for evening events so nobody waits for a second car.
  • Two-car setups: a principal in a sedan, staff and luggage in a second vehicle. Common for family offices; see our family office chauffeur program.

Note that a chauffeured car is for people, not artwork. Purchased pieces travel with specialist fine-art shippers arranged by the gallery or the buyer's advisor.

How bad is Art Week traffic on the causeways?

Art Week brings heavier traffic to Miami Beach, and the causeways are the pinch points because there are only a few ways on and off the island. We will not quote a number because it changes by hour and event, but the planning rules are consistent:

  1. Stay on the side of the bay where you spend most time. If most of your appointments are on the beach, a beach hotel saves hours across the week.
  2. Schedule mainland visits in blocks. Do the Design District, downtown and Wynwood in one swing rather than crossing back and forth.
  3. Leave the fair before the closing rush on Public Days if you have a dinner across the bay.
  4. Use the driver's local knowledge. A Miami chauffeur picks the causeway based on live conditions, not the map's default.

The city also runs a free trolley and a free water taxi, listed on its getting-around page. They are useful for staff and casual visitors; they are not a substitute for a car when a schedule is tight.

When is a private jet worth it for Art Basel?

Be honest about the trip before you charter. Miami is one of the best-connected airline destinations in the country, and from many East Coast hubs a premium cabin plus a chauffeur at the curb gets a couple to the beach with little time lost. The private jet earns its cost in four situations:

  • Groups. A family, a gallery team or a client party that fills the cabin, so the per-seat math narrows.
  • Tight Private Day timing. Landing at Opa-locka an hour before First Choice access opens, with no check-in queue or baggage claim, is hard to replicate on an airline.
  • Multi-stop trips. Many collectors pair Miami with a Caribbean stay after the fair. Our guide to flying private to St Barts covers that onward leg.
  • Privacy. A private terminal keeps arrivals out of public view, which matters to buyers who prefer not to be seen arriving.

If none of those apply, fly commercial and spend the difference on an hourly car for every fair day. That is where most of the week's time is won or lost.

A sample Art Basel itinerary

Here is a realistic plan for a collector flying in from New York for the Private Days:

  • Tuesday evening: land at Opa-locka Executive. The chauffeur tracks the tail number and meets you at the FBO. Under our ground policy, free waiting is 30 minutes after domestic landings, 60 after international ones.
  • Wednesday: hourly car from 10 am. First Choice access from 11 am, lunch on the beach, a mainland collection visit mid-afternoon, a gallery dinner.
  • Thursday: hourly car again. Vernissage from 4 pm, then two dinners on opposite sides of the bay with the driver timing the crossing.
  • Friday: satellite fairs and design shows, then a late return to the hotel.
  • Saturday morning: car to the FBO for the flight home, with buffer for weekend traffic.

If you are traveling with a group, our Miami hourly chauffeur guide covers local logistics outside Art Week, and our Art Basel Miami Beach event page summarizes the ground program for the fair.

Ground cancellations follow our standard terms: more than 72 hours before pickup free; inside 72 hours 10%; inside 48 hours 50%; inside 24 hours or a no-show 100%.

How to book Art Basel flights and cars with us

For the flight, send dates, passengers and departure city through our private jet charter request. We act as your booking agent and source the aircraft from licensed operators, such as FAA Part 135 charter carriers, which hold operational control of every flight. Collectors based in Palm Beach often fly or drive down for the day; our Palm Beach private aviation page covers that side.

For the ground, price the FBO transfer and each hourly day on the online booker; the exact fare is shown before you confirm. Cars come from vetted, licensed and commercially insured operators in our North America directory, with the planeside and FBO standard of our private jet car service. For local fleet options see our Miami limo service. Hotel concierges can book for guests through our hotel concierge desk. The desk answers 24/7 on (877) 860-3388.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Art Basel Miami Beach held?

Art Basel lists the fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach. The 2026 Private Days are December 2 and 3, by invitation, and the Public Days run from December 4 to 6. Visitors enter through the entrance printed on their ticket, so tell your chauffeur which one before you arrive.

Which airport is best for a private jet to Art Basel?

For most travelers it is Miami-Opa locka Executive, which Miami-Dade Aviation lists at about 30 minutes from Miami Beach with three FBOs and Customs from 9 am to midnight. Miami Executive suits stays in south Miami, and Miami International's General Aviation Center works for mixed airline and private itineraries. Your charter operator confirms parking.

Should I book an hourly car or separate rides during Art Week?

For collectors and VIP guests, hourly is usually the better choice. Appointments are spread between the beach, downtown and the Design District, the causeways get congested, and new cars are slow to arrive at peak times. An hourly chauffeur waits nearby and adjusts to the schedule as previews and dinners shift.

How far is Miami Beach from Miami International Airport?

The City of Miami Beach describes MIA as about 10 miles west of Miami Beach. During Art Week the drive across the causeway can take much longer than usual, especially in the late afternoon. Book an airport pickup at MIA with flight tracking so the car moves with your real landing time.

Can a chauffeur carry artwork I buy at the fair?

No. A chauffeured car is for passengers and personal luggage. Purchased artworks are packed, insured and shipped by specialist fine-art logistics firms, usually arranged by the gallery or your advisor. Your driver can carry catalogs, small personal items and shopping, but leave the art itself to the shippers.

Do high-profile collectors use special chauffeur arrangements?

Many request experienced drivers, unmarked vehicles, no name boards and strict confidentiality, sometimes coordinated with a security adviser. Those are standard requests for a VIP chauffeur service. Share the requirements when you book, and the operator assigns a driver briefed on privacy and the week's movement plan.
