A Toronto private jet charter looks straightforward on a map. The island airport sits minutes from the financial district, Pearson is a short drive west, and the suburbs have business airfields of their own. In practice, the rules narrow the choice quickly. Jets cannot use the island airport, one long-standing suburban field has closed, and every international arrival has to clear the Canada Border Services Agency before anyone steps into a car.
This guide explains how a private jet Toronto trip actually works: which airports can take which aircraft, how customs and CANPASS fit in, what drive times to expect, what charter costs look like and how LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books the chauffeured car at the FBO. When you know your dates, send them through our private jet charter request and we will return options from licensed operators.
Where do private jets land in Toronto?
Most private jets serving downtown Toronto land at Pearson (YYZ), about 31 km (19 miles) by road from Union Station. Billy Bishop City Airport prohibits jet aircraft except medevac flights. Oshawa Executive Airport serves the east side, and Hamilton suits trips toward Niagara.
The comparison below uses road distances to Union Station and typical weekday drive times. The 401 and the Gardiner can stretch any of these on a weekday afternoon.
| Airport | Aircraft | Road distance to Union Station | Typical drive | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pearson (YYZ) | All business jets | About 31 km (19 miles) | 30 to 70 minutes | Downtown, Yorkville, the west and north GTA |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | No jets; permitted propeller types only | About 3 km (2 miles) | 10 to 20 minutes | Downtown, by turboprop only |
| Oshawa Executive (YOO) | Business aircraft, corporate only | About 64 km (40 miles) | 55 to 90 minutes | Durham Region, the east GTA |
| Hamilton (YHM) | Business jets | About 84 km (52 miles) | 75 to 120 minutes | Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara |
Pearson: the default for business jets
For most jet travelers, Toronto Pearson is the answer. It handles every class of business jet, it is the closest jet-capable airport to the core, and its private aircraft move through FBO facilities on the airfield rather than the passenger terminals. Skyservice runs a private FBO terminal on the airfield, and the operator will confirm which facility your flight uses.

From Pearson, Union Station is about 31 km (19 miles) by road and Yorkville about 34 km (21 miles). Off-peak, the drive can take half an hour. On a weekday evening, budget an hour or more, and more again during film festival week, when hotel driveways and King Street fill up. Our Toronto Pearson car service and Toronto limo service pages cover both FBO and terminal pickups, and the TIFF Toronto page explains festival logistics.
When people search for a Pearson FBO, the practical questions are the same as anywhere: where does the car wait, can it meet the aircraft planeside, and how long does customs take? Give the tail number and FBO name when you book, and the chauffeur tracks the aircraft and waits at the right door.
Think about the first stop, too. If the day starts with a train to Ottawa or Montreal, the car can run straight to Union Station Toronto instead of a hotel. If it starts with a lunch in Yorkville and ends with an evening flight out, keep the same car and driver all day rather than booking separate transfers; the bags stay in the trunk and nobody waits at a curb.
Can private jets use Billy Bishop Airport?
No, not jets. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, on the Toronto Islands at the foot of Bathurst Street, states that all jet aircraft except medevac flights, and certain types of propeller aircraft, are prohibited from using the airport. It also allows no operations outside published hours except medevac, and pilots are asked to check with the airport duty manager before arrival (Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, for pilots). Its hours of operation are 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, and passengers reach the city by ferry or pedestrian tunnel (Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport).

For a charter, that means one thing: if you want the island's unbeatable downtown access, you need a permitted turboprop, not a jet. For short regional trips, a turboprop into the island can be the fastest door-to-door option in the city. For anything longer, or for a jet, Pearson is the realistic choice. Your chauffeur meets you on the mainland side; the drive to Union Station is about 3 km (2 miles).
What happened to Buttonville, and what about Oshawa?
Older guides still list Buttonville Municipal Airport in Markham as a business aviation option. It closed in November 2023, so any itinerary that relies on it needs re-planning.

On the east side, Oshawa Executive Airport describes itself as Ontario's largest general aviation and corporate-only airport, with no scheduled passenger service. It sits on 484 acres, has dual runways and a full-service FBO open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Flight restrictions apply between 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., when the city's voluntary policy limits flights to police, medical and industrial flights and Oshawa-based aircraft returning home (City of Oshawa, Oshawa Executive Airport). For Durham Region, Pickering or Whitby, it can save a long crawl across the 401 from Pearson; for downtown, it is about 64 km (40 miles) by road.
To the west, Hamilton is about 84 km (52 miles) from Union Station and worth considering when the trip ends in Burlington, Hamilton or the Niagara region. Our Niagara Falls limo service covers the wine country and falls runs.
How does customs work for private flights into Toronto?
Every international arrival must report to the Canada Border Services Agency, and the rules shape both the airport choice and the schedule.
CANPASS for frequent private and corporate flyers
CANPASS Corporate Aircraft and CANPASS Private Aircraft are trusted traveller programs for low-risk, pre-approved travellers flying from the United States into Canada. Members can land at any airport of entry at any time it is open, regardless of CBSA office hours, and corporate members may carry up to four non-members (CBSA, CANPASS benefits). The pilot reports the entry by calling the CANPASS Telephone Reporting Centre at least 2 hours but no more than 48 hours before the estimated arrival, giving passenger details, the aircraft registration and a landing point that must be a designated airport of entry or CANPASS airport. Changes of more than 30 minutes must be reported, and if more than four non-members are aboard a corporate aircraft, the standard general aviation procedures apply instead (CBSA, CANPASS: report your entry).
What this means on a charter
Most charter passengers are not CANPASS members, so the operator follows the standard CBSA procedures and lands at an airport of entry with officers available. Have passports and any visas or electronic travel authorizations ready, and expect officers to see passengers before they leave the FBO. Your chauffeur waits on the landside, and free waiting time of 60 minutes after international landings covers a normal clearance. Our guide to private jet customs and immigration explains the process in more detail.

Who operates Toronto charter flights?
In Canada, commercial air services are run by operators holding an air operator certificate from Transport Canada, which also publishes an operator list search so you can check a company. Licences and charter permits for air services involve the Canadian Transportation Agency (Transport Canada, certification and licensing for air operators). US-registered charter operators flying into Canada hold their own national certificates.
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com acts as your booking agent. Every flight is operated by a licensed air carrier that holds operational control, and we pass you the operator's name and aircraft details with every quote.
Before paying, check three things: the operator's legal name matches the certificate, the aircraft registration on the quote is the one that will fly, and the invoice shows taxes and fees as separate lines. A quote that cannot name the operator or the aircraft is a quote to walk away from. Corporate travel managers and family offices often keep a short list of operators they have already vetted, and we are happy to request quotes from that list.
How much does a Toronto private jet charter cost?
Costs depend on the aircraft, flight time, positioning, airport and handling fees, customs arrangements and seasonal demand. As a reference point in US dollars, Business Jet Traveler reported JetASAP marketplace averages in January 2023 of about US$4,100 per flight hour for turboprops, US$6,600 for light jets, US$8,100 for midsize jets, US$10,200 for super-midsize jets and US$12,500 for heavy jets (Business Jet Traveler, January 2023). Treat these as ranges around a moving market, not quotes.
| Category | Sample trips from Toronto | Reported average per flight hour (US$, Jan 2023) |
|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | Ottawa, Muskoka, Montreal, using Billy Bishop where permitted | Around 4,100 |
| Light jet | New York, Chicago, Boston | Around 6,600 |
| Midsize jet | Florida, Washington | Around 8,100 |
| Super-midsize jet | Caribbean, Western Canada | Around 10,200 |
| Heavy jet | Europe, transcontinental | Around 12,500 |
Short trips deserve an honest comparison. For Muskoka, a road trip from Pearson is about 176 km (109 miles), roughly two and a half hours without cottage-weekend traffic, and our long distance car service may beat a flight once airport time is counted. Ottawa and Montreal are similar calls; see our Ottawa limo service and Montreal limo service.
Planning the car around the jet
The flight is booked; now make the ground legs as smooth as the air.
- Send the tail number and FBO. The chauffeur tracks the aircraft, not an airline flight.
- Match the car to the bags and the season. Winter arrivals with skis or several cases need an SUV.
- Decide transfer or hourly. A day of Bay Street meetings is easier with an hourly chauffeur; our Toronto hourly chauffeur guide explains when it pays.
- Add a greeter for guests. A meet and greet at the FBO helps first-time visitors.
- Book early for event weeks. Film festival week fills the city's best cars first.
Book on the online booker or call the desk on (877) 860-3388. Ground bookings can be cancelled free more than 72 hours before pickup; inside 72 hours the charge is 10%, inside 48 hours 50%, and inside 24 hours or for a no-show 100%. For executives on a full schedule, our executive chauffeur service and private jet car service keep the same driver with you all day. If your next stop is Manhattan, the New York private jet charter guide compares the city's airports.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fly a private jet into Billy Bishop Airport?
No. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport prohibits jet aircraft except medevac flights, and certain propeller types are also barred. Some turboprops can use it within its 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. hours. For a jet, Pearson is the usual choice, about 31 km (19 miles) from Union Station.
Where do private jets park at Toronto Pearson?
Private aircraft at Pearson use FBO facilities on the airfield rather than the airline terminals, and the operator confirms which one your flight uses. Send us the FBO and tail number when booking, and your chauffeur will meet you there through our Toronto Pearson car service.
Do I need CANPASS to fly privately into Canada?
No. CANPASS is an optional trusted traveller program for pre-approved private and corporate flyers from the United States that speeds clearance. Charter passengers who are not members clear the Canada Border Services Agency through standard procedures at an airport of entry, arranged by the operator.
Is Buttonville Airport still open?
No. Buttonville Municipal Airport in Markham closed in November 2023. For the north and east of the GTA, travelers now look at Pearson or Oshawa Executive Airport, depending on the destination. We arrange the car from either through our Toronto limo service.
Who operates the aircraft when I book through LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com?
A licensed air carrier operates the flight and holds operational control; in Canada that means an operator certified by Transport Canada. LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com acts as your booking agent and coordinates the chauffeured cars at both ends through the private jet car service desk.
