A Dubai private jet arrival can be one of the smoothest in the world, or a surprisingly long one, depending on a single decision: whether the aircraft lands at Dubai International (DXB) or at Al Maktoum International in Dubai South, better known as Dubai World Central (DWC). Both run around the clock and both handle business aircraft, but they sit far apart and work differently.
This guide compares the two, explains what the private terminals offer, covers the slot and handling rules that shape every Dubai flight plan, and shows how the chauffeur leg is planned so that a long-haul arrival ends in a cool car rather than a queue.
Should a private jet land at DXB or DWC?
Land at DXB when time to Deira, DIFC or Downtown matters most; it is far closer to the city. Choose DWC, Dubai South's Al Maktoum International, for a dedicated private terminal, easier parking for large jets and quick access to Expo City, the Palm Jebel Ali side and the road to Abu Dhabi.
Both airports are open 24 hours, and both require slots and mandatory handling for business aircraft, according to Jetex's published station pages for Dubai DXB and Dubai DWC. The difference is everything around the runway.
DXB is a major airline hub. Business aircraft use dedicated handling facilities rather than the airline terminals. The upside is location: the airport sits beside the older city, with Deira and Bur Dubai close by. The downside is congestion, both on the airfield at peak airline banks and on the roads at rush hour.
DWC is the airport Dubai is building for the future. Dubai Airports' DWC overview says it opened to passengers in October 2013, supports seasonal charter, scheduled, cargo and general aviation flights, and is the subject of a Phase Two plan announced by the Dubai Government in April 2024: five runways and capacity for 150 million passengers a year within the next decade, eventually rising to 260 million. For private flyers today, it means a big airfield with room to spare and a purpose-built private terminal.
What is the DWC VIP terminal like?
The private terminal at DWC is operated by Jetex as its Dubai South FBO. Jetex's DWC station page describes it as based at the private VIP terminal at Al Maktoum International, with aircraft parked in front of the terminal, direct ramp access, 24/7 operations, and FBO customs and immigration service. The same page lists the runway at 14,764 by 198 feet, IS-BAH Stage 2 and NATA Safety 1st certifications, and airside passenger transfers by Rolls-Royce.

What that means for a passenger:
- Short walk, short wait. With the aircraft parked in front of the terminal and immigration handled in the building, the time from door to car is typically short.
- Room for large cabins. Big long-range jets and VIP-configured airliners are easier to accommodate on an airfield built for growth.
- Visa help. Handlers commonly arrange entry and landing permits, and Jetex lists visa applications among its Dubai services. Check eligibility for your passport well before travel; for many nationalities it is straightforward, for others it takes time.
- Space for meetings. Meeting rooms and lounges mean a principal can hold a short meeting on arrival or before departure without driving into the city.
Our Dubai DWC private aviation page has notes on the terminal and car access, and our sibling explainer on what an FBO is covers private terminals in general.
DXB for private flyers: speed to the city, with conditions
At DXB, Jetex's DXB station page lists customs and immigration arrangements, entry and landing permits and visa applications among its services, alongside a 24/7 operation, mandatory slots and handling, and runway 12R/30L at 14,590 feet.

Three practical points shape a DXB arrival:
- Slots drive the schedule. At an airport this busy, your arrival time is a slot, not a wish. If your departure from Europe slips, the slot may need re-filing; good operators build in tolerance.
- The city is close. From DXB to Downtown Dubai is roughly 15 km (9 miles), typically 20–35 minutes outside rush hour. That is the single biggest argument for landing here.
- Mixed groups. If part of the party flies commercially, DXB keeps everyone at one airport. Airline passengers can use Dubai Airports' Al Majlis VIP service, which offers an exclusive lounge, dedicated passport control, security and customs, and discreet back-door access to the aircraft. Our guide to airport VIP terminals explains how these airline-side services compare with a private FBO.

Gulf charters: short hops and long-haul arrivals
For private jet charter, Dubai is both a destination and a base. Many private flights start or end elsewhere in the Gulf, and the right aircraft depends on the distance.
- Regional hops. Doha, Riyadh, Muscat and Bahrain are short flights. Light and midsize jets work well, and the time saved over airline schedules is meaningful for same-day meetings. On the ground, our Doha chauffeur service and Riyadh chauffeur service cover the other end.
- Abu Dhabi. It is close enough that most travelers drive. For the Grand Prix weekend, landing at DWC and driving to Yas Island is a common plan; our Abu Dhabi Grand Prix event page and Abu Dhabi chauffeur service cover race-week logistics.
- Long-haul arrivals. From London, Geneva or Mumbai, larger cabins are the norm. The arrival is often overnight, and DWC's large ramp and 24/7 private terminal suit early-morning landings.
Peak weeks follow the events calendar. GITEX Global brings a wave of technology executives, and the Dubai Airshow is held at DWC itself; the Dubai Airshow site lists the next show for November 15–19, 2027, at the DWC airshow site. Expect parking and slot pressure that week, and book early.
Chauffeur cars on arrival: what to expect
In a city built around the car, the ground leg is where a Dubai trip is won or lost. Summer temperatures make a waiting, pre-cooled vehicle more than a luxury. Check the fare for your FBO pickup below; it is shown in full before you confirm.
Planeside and terminal pickups
Jetex lists airside transfers by Rolls-Royce at DWC, which handle the short trip between aircraft and terminal. Your own chauffeur usually meets you at the FBO's landside entrance after immigration, with luggage transferred by the handler. Our private jet car service page explains how the driver's details are shared with the FBO in advance.
Vehicles
Dubai's luxury fleet is deep. Common choices are a long-wheelbase sedan for one or two executives, a large SUV for families and luggage, and a Sprinter van with driver for delegations. Tell the desk if you need a female chauffeur, an Arabic-speaking driver, child seats or a second car for staff and luggage. Every operator in our Dubai chauffeur service network is licensed and commercially insured.
Staying on: hourly cars
Meetings in DIFC, lunch on the Palm and a dinner in Downtown add up to a day of short trips; an hourly chauffeur is usually simpler than separate bookings. Our sibling guide to chauffeur by the hour in Dubai covers districts, Abu Dhabi day trips and how waiting time works.
Timing and waiting
Free waiting is 60 minutes after international landings, which covers immigration on almost any private arrival. The desk tracks the flight, so an early arrival from a tailwind over the Gulf does not leave you waiting. Ground cancellations are free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% inside 72 hours, 50% inside 48 hours and 100% inside 24 hours or for a no-show.
What shapes the price of a Dubai charter?
Dubai quotes are built from the same parts as charters anywhere, but a few lines carry more weight here. Ask your operator to show each one separately so you can compare like with like.
- Slots and handling. Both airports require them, and the handling agent's fee covers permits, ramp services and passenger processing.
- Parking. A multi-day stay means ramp parking or hangarage. Large aircraft and event weeks push this line up, and some operators reposition the aircraft instead.
- Positioning. If the aircraft is not based in the Gulf, the empty flights to collect you and to return home are part of the price.
- Crew rest. Long-haul arrivals often require crew hotel nights before the return flight, and very long days may need an augmented crew.
- Overflight and navigation charges. Routes across several countries add charges that vary with the path flown.
A useful comparison when the group is small: a premium airline seat into DXB plus a VIP airport service and a chauffeur may cost far less than a dedicated jet. The jet wins on schedule control, privacy and multi-stop itineraries.
Discretion, protocol and family travel
Dubai's private terminals are built for discretion: separate entrances, private lounges and immigration away from the airline halls. A few habits help:
- Names on boards. For high-profile guests, use a code name or the assistant's name on any sign, or skip the board entirely at a private terminal.
- Local customs. Dubai is cosmopolitan, but modest dress is expected in some public places, which matters for entourages moving between terminal, car and hotel.
- Security coordination. If a close protection team is traveling, the chauffeur company needs their lead's number and the convoy order before arrival. Our VIP and celebrity chauffeur and family office chauffeur services are set up for this.
How to book a Dubai private jet with ground transport
LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books the charter on your behalf as agent. The flight is operated by a licensed air carrier holding an air operator certificate from its national authority, such as an FAA Part 135 or EASA-approved operator, and that carrier holds operational control of the aircraft. Cars are delivered by vetted, licensed local operators from our Middle East directory and confirmed by the same desk.
- Send the brief through the charter request form or call (877) 860-3388: route, dates, passengers, nationalities for visa checks and your hotel or address.
- Choose the airport with the operator: DXB for the city, DWC for space, large aircraft and the Dubai South side.
- Book the cars on the online booker; the exact fare is shown before you confirm.
- Share passports early, so the handler can arrange permits and visas without a last-minute rush.

Frequently asked questions
Is Al Maktoum (DWC) or Dubai International (DXB) better for a private jet?
DXB is far closer to Deira, DIFC and Downtown, so it suits short business trips. DWC, in Dubai South, offers a dedicated private VIP terminal with aircraft parked in front, room for large jets and a quicker run toward Jebel Ali and Abu Dhabi. Both operate 24/7 and both require slots and handling.
Do private jet passengers clear immigration in the terminal at DWC?
At DWC, Jetex's private VIP terminal lists FBO customs and immigration service, so passengers are processed in the private building rather than an airline hall. Your handler arranges entry permits and can assist with visa applications. Check visa eligibility for every passport in the group well before departure.
How long is the drive from DWC to Downtown Dubai?
DWC sits in Dubai South, roughly 45 to 50 km from Downtown Dubai. Outside rush hour, the drive typically takes 40 to 60 minutes along the main highways. From DXB, Downtown is about 15 km away, typically 20 to 35 minutes, which is why many short business trips land at DXB.
Can my chauffeur meet me at the aircraft in Dubai?
Usually the chauffeur meets you at the FBO's landside entrance after immigration, while the handler moves passengers and bags across the ramp; at DWC, Jetex lists airside transfers by Rolls-Royce. The desk shares your driver's details with the FBO in advance so the handover is quick.
When is Dubai busiest for private aviation?
Event weeks bring the most pressure. GITEX Global draws technology executives, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix fills Gulf ramps on race weekend, and the Dubai Airshow, held at DWC, is next scheduled for November 15 to 19, 2027. Book aircraft, slots and cars early for those weeks.
What car should I book for a family arriving at a Dubai FBO?
A large SUV fits three or four passengers with luggage; add a second vehicle or a Sprinter van for larger families, staff or heavy bags. Mention child seats, a preferred language and any security team when booking, so the right vehicles and drivers are waiting at the terminal.
