A chauffeur service in Geneva is rarely about distance. The canton is small, the airport sits a few minutes from the lake, and the train is excellent. What clients pay for is something else: arriving at a private bank without a branded car outside, moving between watch-fair appointments without rebooking, and reaching a chalet in Courchevel or Verbier with skis, children and a driver who has done the mountain road a hundred times.
This guide focuses on three kinds of Geneva day: the discreet banking or family-office visit, Watches and Wonders week, and the ski transfer. It also explains the cantonal rules that govern private hire. For the airport in detail, the France Sector and the wider day-trip map, see our Geneva chauffeur service page.
How is private hire regulated in Geneva?
Geneva regulates chauffeured cars under its cantonal taxi and VTC law (LTVTC), in force since November 2022. Drivers and transport companies need prior authorisation, VTC cars carry dedicated number ranges, rides must be pre-booked and provable, and the maximum price must be agreed before the trip starts.
The law is the Loi sur les taxis et les voitures de transport avec chauffeur (rsGE H 1 31) of 28 January 2022. A few articles explain how your Geneva chauffeur behaves.
- Authorisation first. Article 6 makes the work of a VTC driver, a transport company and a ride-dispatch company subject to prior authorisation, and requires the cars to be registered under the law.
- Dedicated plates. Article 14 says VTC cars are registered with number ranges reserved for them. A properly licensed Geneva chauffeur car is identifiable to the authorities, even if it carries no logo.
- Pre-booked only. Article 24 says a VTC has no special right to use public space: it may not circulate waiting for a fare, may not stop for a street hail, and may only carry out rides ordered or reserved in advance, which it must be able to prove at any time.
- No taxi look-alikes. Article 25 bars VTC cars from features that could be confused with a taxi or invite hailing.
- Price agreed up front. Article 26 leaves VTC prices free, but the agreement on the maximum price must be made before the ride and cannot be changed unilaterally.
That last article lines up with how our booker works: the fare for the hours or the route you choose is shown and fixed before you confirm. LimousineWorldwideDirectory.com books, confirms and invoices the job; a vetted, licensed local operator from our directory delivers it and holds the cantonal authorisations.
A discreet day around the private banks
Geneva's private banks, wealth managers and family offices are spread across the city centre and the lakeside communes. Clients who visit them value two things above speed: privacy and predictability. An hourly booking delivers both.

What a good banking day looks like in practice:
- An unmarked car. Under the cantonal law, VTC cars cannot look like taxis, and clients usually prefer no branding at all. A dark sedan from the First Class or Executive class is the norm.
- The right entrance. Some banks receive clients through a side door, a courtyard or an underground car park rather than the street front. Give the desk the entrance named by your relationship manager, and the driver will plan the approach.
- No waiting at the curb. Because a VTC may not loiter on public space hoping for fares, the car waits at a legal spot or in a car park and returns when you message. With a pre-booked hourly block this is invisible to you.
- One driver for the visit. Many families keep the same chauffeur across a multi-day stay. It reduces the number of people who know the itinerary, which is the point.
Our HNWI and family-office chauffeur page describes how principal movements are planned, and the series guide to discreet travel and NDA chauffeurs covers confidentiality clauses, aliases on name boards and how itineraries are shared. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company, and work alongside your own close-protection team where you have one.
Watches and Wonders week
The Watches and Wonders fair is scheduled for 5 to 11 April 2027, with an expanded seven-day In The City programme of brand activations, boutique events and cultural evenings around Geneva. For a chauffeur, that means two different jobs in the same week.

- The Palexpo shuttle. The exhibition centre is right beside the airport; Rome2Rio puts it about 1.3 km on foot from the terminal, around 15 minutes' walk. The car is less about distance than about moving a buyer, their samples and their guests between Palexpo, lakefront hotels and dinners on a tight clock.
- The city circuit. Boutique appointments, private viewings and manufacture visits spread through the city and, for some brands, out to the Vallée de Joux or Neuchâtel. An hourly block keeps one car on standby for a schedule that changes by the hour.
A typical trade day on an hourly block looks like this:
- 08:15, hotel pickup on the Quai du Mont-Blanc side. Badges and samples go in the car the night before, so the morning is a short, calm run to the fair.
- 09:00 to 13:00, appointments at the fair. The driver waits away from the entrance and returns when you message.
- 13:30, a boutique or manufacture appointment in town. This is where the hourly booking earns its money, because the afternoon rarely runs to plan.
- 16:00, back to Palexpo or on to a private viewing.
- 19:30, dinner and the return. Evening events in the In The City programme end late, and the return leg is the one most often left unbooked.
For delegations, a block of sedans plus one Sprinter van with driver is easier to manage than a stream of individual bookings, and our corporate car service accounts put the week on one invoice. Hotel capacity and cars both tighten that week, so book as soon as your rooms are confirmed. Large events can carry a different cancellation deadline, which the confirmation states.

Hourly booking or transfer in Geneva?
Because Geneva is compact, the hourly-versus-transfer decision matters more here than in a sprawling city. This table sets out the common cases.

| Your plan | Best booking | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Airport to a lakefront hotel, nothing else | Transfer, or the train | The airport is minutes away; trains run into Cornavin |
| Two or more bank or family-office meetings | Hourly | Discreet waiting, flexible timing, one driver |
| Watches and Wonders trade days | Hourly, often multi-day | Palexpo, boutiques and dinners on one schedule |
| Ski transfer to Courchevel or Verbier | Fixed-fare transfer | Long one-way run; no need to hold the car |
| Day in Lausanne, Montreux or the vineyards | Hourly day | Several stops; the car waits |
| Davos for the WEF | Transfer or private flight | A long run; see the WEF planning guide |
The series explainer on car service by the hour versus a transfer runs through the cost logic, and the hourly chauffeur service page explains minimums and overtime. For January in the Alps, see our World Economic Forum Davos page and the Geneva and Davos private jet guide.
Ski transfers: Courchevel, Verbier and the border
Geneva Airport is the main winter gateway to resorts on both sides of the border, and the two most requested long runs from it go in opposite directions.
- Courchevel, in France. Rome2Rio gives about 135 km (84 miles) by road from Geneva Airport, a little over two hours in clear conditions. The route leaves Switzerland within minutes, runs on French motorways and ends with a long mountain climb.
- Verbier, in Switzerland. Rome2Rio gives about 136 km (85 miles) and roughly 2 hours 10 minutes by road, along Lake Geneva and up the Rhône valley via Martigny and Le Châble. The rail alternative is listed at around three hours with changes, which is fine for a light traveler and hard work with skis.
Those times are clear-road figures. On a winter Saturday, when many chalets and hotels change over, the airport and the access roads slow dramatically, so the real journey can be far longer. The practical rules:
- Tell the desk about every ski bag, boot bag and pram. Equipment, not passengers, usually decides the vehicle. A Luxury SUV seats six but rarely carries six sets of skis; a Sprinter does.
- Ask for winter equipment. Mountain roads on both sides of the border call for winter tires and, at times, snow chains. Ask the desk to confirm the car is equipped, especially early or late in the season.
- Know which side of the airport you use. The airport's France Sector page explains that the French side is reached by road only via the customs road from Ferney-Voltaire, and that passengers arriving on an international flight must pass through Switzerland first, then follow the France Sector signs from the check-in level. Your confirmation states which side your driver will meet you on.
- Bring passports or ID. Customs posts are usually crossed without stopping, but every passenger needs documents.
- Allow for the last stretch. For Courchevel, some guests transfer by helicopter or light aircraft from the valley or from Geneva; we coordinate the car at either end but do not arrange aviation. For private flights into Geneva, see our Geneva GVA private aviation page and private jet car service.
Our series guide to ski resort private travel covers resort logistics in more depth, and long-distance car service covers how fixed-fare intercity runs are priced.
Choosing the car for Geneva
- Executive Sedan (E-Class or similar): one or two travelers, city meetings, light bags.
- First Class Sedan (S-Class or similar): private-bank visits and principals.
- Luxury SUV: families, winter days, mountain transfers with modest equipment.
- Executive Sprinter: ski groups, watch-fair delegations and family-office staff moves, up to 12 to 14 passengers.
Child, toddler and booster seats are added at booking, which matters on mountain roads. See the fleet page for capacities.
How to book a Geneva chauffeur
- Open the online booker and choose hourly service for city days or a point-to-point transfer for the mountains.
- Add the address and the entrance for each stop, and list every passenger, bag and ski bag.
- For airport pickups, add the flight number; flights are tracked, and international arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing (30 minutes domestic). An inside meet and greet with an alias on the name board can be added.
- Review the fare, which is fixed before you confirm, and book.
Assistants and family offices booking for principals can use the executive chauffeur service desk. Cancellation is free with more than 72 hours' notice, then 10% inside 72 hours, 50% inside 48 hours and 100% inside 24 hours or for a no-show, all from the scheduled pickup. Heading on to German-speaking Switzerland? See our Zurich chauffeur service. The 24/7 desk is on (877) 860-3388.

Frequently asked questions
Can I hail a chauffeured car on the street in Geneva?
No. Under the cantonal LTVTC, a VTC may not stop for a street hail or circulate waiting for fares; every ride must be ordered or reserved in advance. That is why a Geneva chauffeur is booked online or through the desk, with the price agreed before the trip.
Is an hourly chauffeur worth it for a private bank visit?
Usually, yes, when the day has more than one meeting. The car waits discreetly nearby, uses the entrance your bank prefers and returns when you message. For a single appointment near the station, a transfer each way or the tram can be enough.
How long is the drive from Geneva to Courchevel?
Route planners put it at about 135 km by road, a little over two hours in clear conditions. Winter Saturdays, snow and the final mountain climb can make it much longer, so leave a generous margin if you have a lift booking, a ski lesson or a dinner reservation.
How long does it take to get from Geneva Airport to Verbier?
About 136 km and roughly 2 hours 10 minutes by road in clear conditions, via Martigny and Le Châble. The train takes around three hours with changes. For a family or group with skis and boot bags, a Sprinter transfer door to door is usually simpler.
When is Watches and Wonders 2027?
The organiser lists 5 to 11 April 2027 in Geneva, with an expanded In The City programme of boutique and cultural events across the week. Cars and hotels tighten for that week, so book your chauffeur as soon as your schedule is firm.
Can the driver meet me on the French side of Geneva Airport?
It depends on your flight and destination. The French side is reached by road only via the customs road from Ferney-Voltaire, and passengers on international flights pass through Switzerland first. Tell the desk your final address, and your confirmation states the exact meeting point.
